Tasted by Munch on 1/17/2016 & rated 91 points: In my cellar since release. Different experience than several others posting here. This wine is fresh, soft, supple with great nose of tobacco, espresso and blackberry. On the palate some secondary spice and tobacco along with cassi and berries and silky mouthhfeel. Medium finish. Amazing QPR and seems to have a good drinking window still to come. (2152 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 11/16/2014 & rated 88 points: Hah, over a year ago we had lasagna with our last bottle.....and again tonight opened with lasagna. Slightly funky, confected, detergent, blood orange, tea, mint and herbal notes. Some bricking. Very tart cranberry and raspberry. Sour cherry notes, acidic attack and finish. A dark oak note revealing with air. Wow, at day 2 + under vac u vin this has certainly come around, getting deeper, darker, and less acidic with more true fruit and breadth of palate. Interesting evolution and recovery from what initially seemed mediocre. (2273 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 6/26/2013 & rated 84 points: Opened with meat lasagna. Lighter bodied dark red to brick. Not firing on all cylinders tonight, this offers up aromas of bitter coffee, earth, rock, red cherry. Almost pinot like nose with a slightly musky edge. Similar flavor profile to aroma, with additional tartness. Fruit is madierizing. Day two under vac-u-vin this shows a little more depth and body, yet acidic fruit - the sweetness is gone and this is perhaps a little better than upon opening. Better with food. (2912 views)
Tasted by Munch on 2/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Reading some other TNs here got me nervous about this, as I astill have several bottles of the 03. Opened one last night that's been in my cellar since release, and it's in its prime...still more purple than red in color and softened up a lot since release. Flavors of raspberry, black cherry, spice and mild pepper. Not all that complex, but a very enjoyable wine. Need to drink these in the next year or so.. (4221 views)
Tasted by winefielder on 1/8/2011 & rated 78 points: Past its prime - brownish color; slightly sour taste, drinkable but barely. (4204 views)
Tasted by extrafd on 12/24/2010: Drank it for xmas. Went well with the duck and maybe past it prime, however retained a lot of power and fruit - still a typical aussi Shiraz (2649 views)
Tasted by smkl123 on 9/29/2010 & rated 88 points: found this bottle in the back of my cellar. Opened just to see if it was still good...and it was. Color nicely browned. Green pepper nose. still strong pepper flavor with fair amount of fruit--cherry i think. i detected a slight sourness on the finish...maybe its overage finally coming out. still very enjoyable for a $15 btl, even past its prime. (2552 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 7/12/2010: Previous notes apply. I left it over night to see if anything changes today and will update tonight. It is, however, an interesting wine when I put it along side the Samur and the Ogier Rosine. All had similar characteristics, however, relative to the Samur it was described as being 'sour' by some. Big nose of bell pepper and when swirled around on the palate you could sense the very nice fruit attempting to show forth. We will see tonight. (2285 views)
Tasted by extrafd on 5/11/2010 & rated 85 points: Probably I drank it too late. Not really any fruit left. Still an OK glass, which would have been better a few years ago (2089 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 4/22/2010: Unfortunately, while still good, it was not showing well. Possibly needs more bottle time or it's past its prime. I'm not necessarily experienced or smart enough to tell the difference. Big nose of leather, dark chocolate, beef blood, tobacco, etc. I did not decant and it should have been decanted. Lots of sediment. It began to show better several hours later when Teddy's son brought some friends by after a party at the club across the street at which time they devoured the remainder of the Woodcutters so I can't speak to its development, however, they all loved it. I have a second bottle I am opening tonight with Ribs. More to come. (2132 views)
Tasted by richard thorne on 10/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Heavy deposit. Needed over an hour after decanting to develop. Otherwise, see Haggis on 10/18/2007. Will continue to improve over several years. (NB Wine Society's research into maturation with screw tops.) (2738 views)
Tasted by djb on 1/8/2008 & rated 88 points: This does not show especially well upon opening. I suspect it's more a screwcap issue (definite reduction aromas) than insufficient bottle age. But it does come around with and show fresh, darkish, slightly jammy fruit, with some pepper. The acidity sticks out a bit a times but the lack of oak is refreshing. While not balanaced, still decent QPR. (3160 views)
Tasted by michelvl on 12/10/2007 & rated 90 points: This wine is definitely starting to morph into something better. Marked positive difference from my previous tastings. Need an hour's worth of decanting at minimum. All flavours on both nose and palate were much more pronounced and delivering. will probably peak in 2-4 years. Starting to drink well now. (3068 views)
Tasted by Bardamu on 11/4/2007 & rated 91 points: Starting to develop some decent complexities. This wine is always good, certainlly one of the best deals for a good bigish Aussie wine. This was like drinking velvet. Smelled great, tasted great, worth every cent paid for it. Big without being jammy and has a a tonne of complexity. (3056 views)
Tasted by Haggis on 10/18/2007 & rated 89 points: After being opened for about an hour, a nice Rhone'ish nose was evident: dark fruit with a little of that Rhone "funk." Dark cherry, blackberry, spice, pepper, and briar. I am not sure why there is so much controversy about this wine. I found it eminently satisfying, although by no means great. I think another year or 2, max, for this and it will be even more enjoyble. (3335 views)
Tasted by TwoSmoochies on 9/29/2007 & rated 92 points: leather, dark berries, chocolate/cocoa (3336 views)
Tasted by dfitzg2 on 8/6/2007 & rated 89 points: Have had better from Barossa, but this had nice solor and a great beginning. A little light on the finish. (3263 views)
Tasted by VegasTony on 7/1/2007 & rated 87 points: A bit better than the last bottle. (3271 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 5/27/2007: No rating. Poorly stored for too long. Generally found to be too sweet and extracted. (3461 views)
Tasted by michelvl on 3/3/2007 & rated 90 points: Less impressive than usual/expected of Woodcutter's. Nose was not as pronounced or fruity and had indeed a deeper smell reminiscent of old wood. Enjoyable wine with enough berries and balance to make it a price performance runner. (3467 views)
Tasted by VegasTony on 1/27/2007 & rated 85 points: Plenty of sediment in this bottle. The nose smells brett-affected, with dried cherry and berry, reminding me somewhat of Chianti. The soft palate shows dried cherries, prunes, and a little brett-induced funk, with good balancing acidity, leading to alcoholic heat on the finish. 14% alc/vol. Enjoyed this more in the past. (3711 views)
Tasted by tplskylrk on 1/14/2007 & rated 80 points: Nice color, nose. Yikes what a taste, seemed like it had CO2 compressed into it or something? Was this a bad bottle, hope so, but it is the second Torbreck we have opend this year that needed a second night. Second night got much better, but a wine just shouldn't taste like that. Sorry but that is the last torbreck for me. Too many yummy out of the bottle, that just get bettter with age Aussies to try and finish one. (3802 views)
Tasted by hwallace3000K on 1/8/2007 & rated 90 points: Velvety, ripe, easy drinking- I enjoyed and will buy again. (3837 views)

Tasted by E on 11/18/2006 & rated 85 points: eh, a bit disappointing...parker missed this one. (4018 views)
