Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Nutty08 on 3/24/2024 & rated 94 points: Served blind. Wonderful focus and delineation. White peach and a bit of apple on a fine spine of acidity. Narrow and refreshing. Finishes stony and refreshing. Guess is 21 Chablis. 1er. Amazing. (641 views)
Tasted by jviz on 3/24/2024 & rated 92 points: Pretty incredible concentration and intensity at the village level. It comes across ripe, but not as much as 16. And less power for sure than the 18 MdT enjoyed a few weeks ago. Still, I was impressed by the bottle. Dripping with concentrated mineral, oozing sliced Anjou pear, maintaining its sense of place. This is a great intro to Raveneau if one is new to the team! (748 views)
Tasted by Zunga on 1/26/2024 & rated 92 points: Wonderful bottle. Raveneau does disappoint! This is open for business! (676 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 7/19/2023: Loaded with sappy orchard fruits. It is dense and full, with more volume and flavour intensity than what you would expect for its level. It has great drive and finishes with a squeeze of lemon and plenty of mineral. There are gentle spicy notes that linger. (1677 views)
Tasted by chicsucre on 7/10/2023: Light lemon color
On the nose, lime, honey, acacia, a little bit magnolia and sea breeze
Palate matches the nose
Wet stones, texture like mulberry silk
Med ++finish

Super enjoyable
Perfect for summer lunch after visit at Pierre Peters at La Gare in le mesnil

Tasted by lorenzodemonye on 7/9/2023 & rated 91 points: lacks matiere (903 views)
Tasted by Papies on 6/13/2023 & rated 91 points: Surprisingly or Not a very pretty wine and grated lacks the depth and energy of their better bottlings still the humble village delivers. Round and polished, soft but with a solid core. Good fruit and a very happy wine. 91 and drink sooner than later. (1623 views)
Tasted by Pwwinesanddines on 1/7/2023: Entry error (1795 views)
Tasted by Peter Spijker on 9/28/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted for a good hour or so, drank at d'Oude Schuur. My first Raveneau, I found this to be quite elegant and definitely showing its inherent quality. Quite mineral, lemon zest, some yellow apple, very restrained use of oak. Probably riper (and less acidic) than I prefer in Chablis, but nonetheless very nice. (2081 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 6/14/2022 & rated 92 points: Yellow apple, lemon-lime, saline

Can’t beat it for €42 on a restaurant wine list in Champagne. (2125 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 5/15/2022 & rated 94 points: Absolutely LOVE the Rav...of course I'd drink the GC and PC all day long if I could...hell, give me the Petit any day...the only prob is the $$$...even the Village is getting out there! This 18 is on the richer side...little more tropical fruits and less Raveneau wax dry extract...BUT...still posses the magic, and is KILLER Chablis any way you cut it! Yes riper stone fruits...candied lemon rind...little grilled pineapple...yet ALL Raveneau in subtlety...sea air, crushed oyster shell, wax, spearmint...wonderful flowers florals...brisk sea air..crushed limestone chalkiness...plenty of energy...and tasty as all get out! Drink it ALL DAY LONG! (2367 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/6/2021 & rated 91 points: In this vintage a ton of power and concentration, even in the village Chablis. Lots of ripe, round orchard fruit and juicy, chewy acidity. Fun now, with perhaps some upside if it gains modest complexity, but this is now in a peak window. (2735 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 8/6/2021 & rated 91 points: Dauvissat plus X Tasting (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): *** all wines tasted blind ***
Glass: Zalto Bordeaux
Clear, medium yellow color. Lean and deep nose, crushed stones and rock flour, herbs.
On the palate quite similar to Dauvissat’s Chablis, probably a bit rounder and creamier. 13% abv. Juicy, wonderful texture, good balance, wonderful salinity. Long finish. 91+ (3617 views)
Tasted by VincentMorey on 6/24/2021: Already drinking beautifully right out of the gate. Opened to do a brief tasting when it was closer to room temperature then refrigerated the bottle until it was time for dinner. It reminded me of the Pattes Loup Chablis village 2016 (this is a 2018 Raveneau Chablis) and as others have said, rather opulent. The transition between fruit, acidity, salinity, and just a light pitch of minerality, make this very approachable. In some ways this might be a bit too smooth, and light to medium bodied, unlike Laurent Tribut's village 2018 (which was far more bold). There were a bit more tropical fruit notes that overshadowed any lemon or citrus, and the acidity was extremely elegant. Really enjoyed the honey like texture, that was notable, but not overpowering like Dauvissat Forest 2015. Absolutely fabulous with strong flavored fish, shellfish (clams, crab), and quite enjoyable with everything else at the sushi bar. I am not too sure how this will pair with raw oysters, but doesn't seem to have what it needs to pair as brilliantly.

Value wise, I think everyone understands is not quite there. It's a marvelously built village Chablis despite the lack of body and grip compared to other producers, but you're paying other people's Premier Cru prices for this. Worth a try and I'm glad I did. If you pop open a bottle, may it be a special occasion, or just to reward oneself (or friends you share with). (2219 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 3/22/2021 & rated 90 points: One Variety -- 3 Price-Points, Blind (Los Olivos, CA): Served blind in a flight of three of the same grape variety: one inexpensive, one, mid-range and one high-end. We correctly called Chablis here. I found it lacking in acidity, though the vibrancy of the fruit helped compensate. A 2015 Sandhi Sanford & Benedict took this flight, and I have to confess to having been fooled by a grocery store entry: a 2018 Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve I humblingly mistook for a Burgundy with age. (2775 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 12/10/2020: This is heady and ripe, bursting with orchard fruits. There are some saline mineral things under the flesh. It has good volume and a relatively low-acid feel but is energetic. (2666 views)
Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
