Tasted by CWilliam on 2/21/2023: 2nd of 6 bottles. PNP - really enjoyed this (nothing to re-try the next day). Didn't note color. Great nose. Menthol, underbrush, bright cherry, cherry cough drop and tart cherry on nose. Medium body, medium+ acidity, medium tannins and very long finish. Palate similar to nose ex. cherry cough drop. 93+/- (2284 views)
Tasted by flund on 12/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Showing some development already, or possibly the slightly dried fruit is due to the warm year. Still a very nice and complex wine. (2558 views)

Tasted by Scottwhipp on 8/13/2022 & rated 94 points: Loved this wine during a fine dining Italian restaurant meal. Tasty cherry, strawberry and balsamic greet the front palate which transitions immediately to iron laced fine honed tannins, finishing dry. Great balance between fruit and tannins, albeit slightly weighted to tannins, which I found quite acceptable. Took about 20-30 minutes of air in the decanter and in the glass to open up. Drinking very nicely, so no need to hold longer, but clearly has a long life ahead for further cellaring. (2492 views)
Tasted by UFGators on 8/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Very tannic but approachable fruit with some air. Best days are ahead of it. (2049 views)
Tasted by Wine-O-Mite!! on 4/15/2022 & rated 91 points: I say 91 somewhat falsely here, because this is a beautiful wine that should probably be higher. Right now, it leads with acidity, and follows with a lovely, subdued elegance. It is clearly quality, but somehow not quite in harmony, and yet... sort of singing now. Idk. Better later? Probably. Maybe I just caught it in a bit of a mood this night? Sometimes I think wine is like that. I probably could've let it breathe a bit longer. Interested to revisit this bottle tmrw and others later.  Tasted by mcktuck on 12/20/2021 & rated 88 points: Struggled a bit with this one, as it borders on overripe and jammy, though there is some nice acidity and fresh fruit here. I'm guessing this is more vintage than style because there was still a hint of restraint and elegance here, but ultimately, this was a bit heavy and cloying for my palate. It does hit some classic sangiovese/Brunello notes--dark cherries, stewed tomato, balsamic, maybe a touch of VA--but it just comes across a bit heavy.

I think there's some quality winemaking here, but not sure this vintage suits my style. If you prefer things a bit riper, this is a good buy. Will be curious to see how this comes about over the next 5-10 years. (2468 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 11/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Picked picked up several of these during our recent trip to Tuscany to expand our understanding of Brunellos. With that as a backdrop, this was a pop and pour, followed over 3 hours.

While the overall profile is light as others note, there’s a lot of tannin here, which provide a tight and abbreviated finish. Would like to give this more air in the future.

While the flavors are light cherry and strawberry, there’s enough bite from the tannins to give it depth. (2227 views)
Tasted by BAJRiley on 10/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Ruby, medium depth of colour. Nose: raspberry, red currant, herbs, tomato leaf and violets.

Palate: strong acid and tannin as expected, but I think this is the sort of Brunello that can be approached a bit younger than most. Great value.

CWilliam, I had the opposite experience to you. I left a small glass for 24 hours at room temperature simply covered with cling film. For me this presented much better on the second day - the tannic edge had softened, the nose was much more perfumed and harmonious. I rated the wine based on that. (2150 views)
Tasted by CWilliam on 8/21/2021 & rated 93 points: Looking for my notes - loved this on night 1. 93+

It fell apart overnight (in cool cellar under vacu-vin) which surprised me- fruit went from bright and balanced to dried out /stewed (more on nose than palate). Maybe drink over next 5 years before fruit turns? Curious what others think. I really enjoyed this wine on night 1 to be clear. (2635 views)
Tasted by Johno's Cellar on 5/19/2021 & rated 93 points: Awesome full flavour intense wine. Really you don’t want to open it but its got enough age that it’s beginning to show lots of layers of berries and oak characters (2638 views)
Tasted by pkouchu on 1/26/2021 & rated 94 points: blackberries, plum, cherries, olives, strawberries, pepper, dried savory herbs, and underbrush.

really enjoyable pop and pour, seems to be a little more bold on the fruit than most brunello, but it suits my style nicely (2174 views)
Tasted by jdrago on 11/13/2020 & rated 93 points: Enjoyable right upon opening; let breathe for 1 hour and it had evolved; continued evolving through 2.5 hours. Nose of bread , black licorice and cherry. Tastes of bright cherry acidity, light minerals and light tobacco. Fruit is the star of the show. Very enjoyable wine. (2059 views)
Tasted by robhaf on 10/17/2020 & rated 91 points: After an hour of decanting, nice light Brunello. A lot of dark and red fruit. Some tannins present, today a bit young. I will keep the other bottles a few years! This wine will definitely develop. (1987 views)
Tasted by mrholmberg on 9/30/2020 & rated 93 points: No formal note but it had everything you would want in a young traditonally styled Brunello, in a lighter style. (1661 views)
Tasted by Pchiolo on 9/15/2020 & rated 85 points: Excellent and perfect timing. Light and full flavored. Great lingering on the palate. Perfect level of alcohol, not over powering. (1487 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 2/21/2020: 2015 Brunello di Montalcino, new releases (Montalcino centro): Benvenuto Brunello 2020, Montalcino

Ripe red fruits, trace soil, and leather. Medium, juicy body, with avg complexity and length. It's ok, it's simple, but it's likely a good companion to food, too. recommended

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
