Pretty striking and I can see how it's such a beloved/distinct style. Extremely incredibly crisp and steely; but not at all like, say, a NZ Sauv Blanc might be crisp and steely. The fruit here was waaaaaay in the background behind flinty and almost nutty tones, almost like a combination of heavy reduction and something like that nutty spice that comes from barrel fermentation (even though I *think* this saw no oak at all?) An absolute mineral bomb.
Acidity was RIPPINGLY intense, some of the highest acid in a white I've ever tasted. At times it threatened to be almost too much but worked incredibly with rich seafood, and the fruit really came out to play on day two, with a lot of vivid lime zest.
Maybe it was a little edgy at times, but I was really impressed. I don't have much I can really compare it to at this stage. I might be underrating it for the ~$30 I paid, but it's hard for me to figure out the actual average price of this (much more on their website for example.) (494 views) | | Tasted by BritBrit on 2/28/2022 & rated 80 points: Pale straw color with undertones of green. Cut grass and citrusy notes of grapefruit and lemon are the primary aromas here, giving way to violet, yellow apple and ginger as the wine in the glass warmed. Med- body and crisp medium acidity, most of the flavors concentrated at the middle of the palate with an oily mouthfeel and slightly bitter aftertaste at the back of the palate. This unfortunately was just opened (I only bought it a couple weeks ago) a few years too late - I'll try to track down a newer vintage as my experience is certainly not representative of the reputation. Thirst quenching, with a hint of salinity in the background. (387 views) | | Tasted by UFGators on 1/5/2022 & rated 92 points: Hard to put down the glass. Green apple and saltiness. 11 percent alcohol. Easy going and refreshing. Medium weight. (459 views) | | Tasted by joraesque on 5/5/2020 & rated 90 points: Medium-full-bodied, with good acidity. Notes of lemon, lime, and salt. A bit too viscous for my liking, but well done nevertheless. 11% ABV. (539 views) | | Tasted by pgm on 2/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Nicely balanced Hunter semillon: crisp fruit, enough waxy lanolin to show it as a Hunter semillon but not so much as to annoy my wife, remarkably full and viscous in texture for a wine so light in alcohol.
