Tasted by ShadowIII on 11/4/2022 & rated 91 points: Still with good fruit, currants, cedar, mint and eucalyptus, soft tannins, good finish. (1359 views)
Tasted by KL1191 on 10/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Perfect cork. Wonderfully alive. Aromas of cigar box, charred green pepper. Palate is red fruited with raspberry and boysenberry. Sufficient acid; held up against a veal chop Parmesan. A wonderful time capsule. (2244 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 1/10/2020: Another Year, Another Napa (aka Winter in Wineland IV); 1/5/2020-1/11/2020 (Napa/Sonoma California): From the 'vintage pour' at Press. This was great. First of all, not often that I get to do birth year wines and given the birth year not often when I do that they are actually good. But this was drinking very well. Old school Napa. (4165 views)
Tasted by onboisduvin on 10/27/2017 & rated 87 points: No more like wine, plum juice rather. Late stage of life.

2018/2/4 This bottle is completely different story from previous ones. A bit over its peak when tannin is soft and smooth. The aroma and taste is not strong but integrated as old wine should be. 91 (4530 views)
Tasted by bu11itt on 4/23/2016 & rated 92 points: HOT DAMN!!! Wine of the night hands down. So open and expressive with fruit and earth and barrels notes all on the nose. The palate was just alive with flavors and felt so young with wonderfully integrated tannins that still showed their presence and a tart acidic kick that lasted all the way to the end. Everyone loved it. Really the best thing I can say about this wine is the wife of one of the guys at the table just does not care for red wine. She will normally drink beer or a cocktail when we all get together. Out of curiosity and I guess open-mindedness, she halfway participated in the tasting, taking small sips from her husband’s glasses. After sampling the Mondavi she looked up and said, “Oh wow. That’s good.” (7050 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 3/14/2016 & rated 91 points: From Double Magnum, decanted for 1 hour
a lot of dark and red berries, some mintiness, elegant, vibrant acidity, alcohol well integrated, middle long finish, ripe tannins (5790 views)
Tasted by rlove on 12/20/2015 & rated 88 points: Ruby, surprisingly youthful color. Nose of tart cherry, dried currant, leather, and dried herbs. Unlike the non-reserve '81 enjoyed on the same evening, this wine still shows primary fruit and is a lovely aged Napa Cabernet. On the palate, red fruit and earth, with nice acid and fully resolved tannins. Drink now, but this is certainly still open for business. Quite lovely. (5058 views)
Tasted by wpd on 11/24/2014 & rated 90 points: Nicely aged California cab. Not as good as the 84, 85, 86, but still a very good wine with plenty of fruit. (5210 views)
Tasted by Rob MacKay on 11/7/2009 & rated 92 points: Bottle was in near perfect shape. Corked crumbled a bit on extraction and the wine with quickly decanted to avoid the sediment and little cork bits. The color didn't show nearly as much age as I was expecting and there was only a very tiny amount of bricking at the extreme edge. Nice fruit on the nose with a touch of old leather. The wine was vibrant and alive and gave no sign of fading at all during the evening. This was a very good bottle. 92 pts. (7648 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 6/30/2002 & rated 92 points: Deep and brooding wine, fully mature. Spicy nose, deep and autumnal, red fruit and cedar; dry, concentrated, blackcurrants, extracted, minerality; autumnal finish. Impressive. (3289 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 2/20/2000 & rated 86 points: Medium ruby/brick with brick rim. Moderately intense nose of cigar, mint, cedar and plum. Similar flavors, with light residual tannins. Medium, smooth finish. (6037 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 4/15/1996 & rated 88 points: PROBABLY PAST ITS PRIME THOUGH STILL NICE FRUIT IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (658 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 12/2/1995 & rated 87 points: Medium ruby with brick rim. Moserate sediment. Nose and palate similar to 3/28/92, but slightly more complex. There is still substantial fruit left on this bottle! The finish is long and smooth. Currently excellent. Has fruit to at least hold for a few more years. (5442 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 3/28/1992 & rated 82 points: Medium ruby with brick rim. Moderate sediment (would decant). Nose shows moderately intense cigar box, cherry, leather and vanilla. Good attack, nice evolution with soft tannins. Light fruit on mid-palate with same complex flavors as nose. Medium, smooth finish. Ready now. (4339 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 3/16/1991 & rated 94 points: Deep and complex colour, viscous; calm and warm nose that opens up beautifully, high quality new oak, concentrated ripe fruit, plums and mulberries, perfumed, wholemeal bread, peppery note; full and fleshy palate, concentrated, relatively soft velvety tannins, well endowed with ripe fruit, creamy and earthy, elegant acidity; fabulous finish, velvety, complete, excellent length. Is starting to come together, should last another ten years. (1131 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 11/25/1989 & rated 84 points: Tasting of 9 Robert Mondavi Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Reserves which was repeated with a different wine group.
Intense cabernet nose, rich fruit on nose, little old smelling, well balanced, medium fruit in mouth, medium finish.
My #9 of 9. (929 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 11/2/1989 & rated 76 points: Tasting of 9 Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvignons. Had an intensely, rich cabernet nose that was a little old and musty smelling, medium body with good balance, medium finish and short aftertaste. My #9. (917 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
