Tasted by Putnam Weekley on 2/24/2024 & rated 90 points: A tall, aerating pour leads directly to aromas that gather steadily. Initial sensations of berries, savory earth, and dried leaf lead to an excavation fitted with salted raspberries broiled in sunshine. The tannins are remarkable: gripping, ripe, and generously proportioned. It's a conspiracy of appetite arousal, and it eats its own tail as the finish demands to be quenched with another drink. This action elucidates intersecting strands of truffle, and anise/cherry cordial, and dark crust on a rib chop. This is a pleasure to drink. (380 views)
Tasted by ManhattanBeach on 4/30/2023: SFH cycling weekend; 4/29/2023-4/30/2023: Decanted for an hour or so. Lovely classic profile. (811 views)
Tasted by Putnam Weekley on 3/25/2023 & rated 90 points: A thread of pitched-yeast/reduction takes only a minute to vacate, leaving room for beckoning baked earth and red blueberry. Mouthwatering to smell. A drink is an active, fleshy globe—at first. With time it develops contrast and detail, until it's flogging those delicious! punctuation! marks! Naïve grape flavor—see last year's notes—has aged away, yielding to pin cherry, iron gravel, plum jam, and dot-shaped dark green leaves. I can imagine this vintage eventually taking on a shape that resembles berry cordial and maduro cigars, but not yet. This is just out of its crib.
24 HOURS later: last 9 oz. paired with miso-fish soup from Goblin. That's the way to go. Air helped a bit; pairing with fish helped more. Last night's menu: pan crusted hangar steak, straight and chopped into a burrito. Delicious, but not nearly as adorable as fresh flavored Sangiovese with fish.
As I drain the last 2 oz. I notice the taste of red, Spanish peanut skin. It's flattering, and completely unrelated to infamous peanut flavors in various, darling, dirty natty wines. (956 views)
Tasted by Hallvard91 on 1/22/2023: Medium-bodied. Cherry. Strawberries. Finish: Pepper. Slight hint of vanilla. Grapefruit. (894 views)
Tasted by Spevino on 1/20/2023 & rated 89 points: The wine looks rosy colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry. The body is light/medium. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (861 views)
Tasted by Macman77 on 9/3/2022 & rated 87 points: Red fruits (cherries, strawberries) tea bag, chocolate, herbal in the nose.
Earthy taste, cherries, chocolate, herbs, fresh acidity, a touch of licorice
Good match with tomato soups with halloumi and basilica (1018 views)
Tasted by Putnam Weekley on 3/18/2022 & rated 90 points: 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, Colorino, & Malvasia Nera. EYE: surprise, encouraging transparent ruby color. NOSE: utterly familiar as Chianti. Savory, spiced red berries. Roasted red earth. Sweet rosemary. Everything is in place. Anyone can smell this and identify it. MOUTH: hell yeah! Ropy, sap-stained tannins bind red berry fruit. Fresh, ripe, vibrant density of berry liquids. Sweet tannins so dry they leave a cooling sensation—like leafless mint. The resolution is an event. Childish greed. Grapey juices yield to gravity and entropy—the disequilibrium of pressure on the frame of tannin creates a sociable collapse. As flavors spill forward they rinse salty, mushroom, meat, and earth sensations, from a stage made of bedrock. FOOD: seared salmon dinner emphasizes grape flavor, especially after wasabi mayo is introduced. ACTION: Always a raw wine in its youth, but this 2018 is exceptionally accessible. I cornered the last few bottles to be found, and look forward to drinking it again in a year or two. 90-94 (1328 views)
Tasted by Macman77 on 10/16/2021 & rated 85 points: Typical nose with cherries, red berries, herbs and licorice
Medium bodied, high acidity, sour cherries, tea bag, salt licorice, herbs and a relatively long bitter aftertaste.
Lacks some fruit in the taste, may benefit from some aeration. (1483 views)
Tasted by Stian1971 on 10/9/2021 & rated 86 points: Røde bær. Fin syre. (1321 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 8/24/2021 & rated 88 points: Pop and pour and enjoyed with food (Chiocciole pasta in tomato sauce with meatballs using Flannery ground beef, in case you were wondering).
Translucent purple color.
Nose offers cherry, hint of cedar, and some mushroom notes. Touch of red clay mixed in as well.
Nice, light and fresh Chianti. Good red fruits with a savory herbal and mushroom note. Nice acidity.
An enjoyable, yet simple, Sangiovese wine. (1574 views)
Tasted by Macman77 on 5/16/2021 & rated 89 points: Nice and typical nose with cherries, herbs, licorice and vanilla
Strawberries, sweet Cherries, high acidity, tea bag, medium long aftertaste of wood. Improved after being stored for some time. (1591 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 5/9/2021 & rated 88 points: Pop and pour and enjoyed with food (fettucine in a lemon butter sauce with asparagus tips and peas, in case you were wondering) and then on its own.
Dark ruby color.
Nose offers mushrooms and dark cherries.
Nice fresh intro on the palate, with some cherry and a continuation of the mushroom notes. Has some red clay dust in the mid-palate and then on the finish.
A simple wine - not much complexity - but still enjoyable. (1392 views)
Tasted by pigdaddy on 5/7/2021 & rated 89 points: remains an excellent expression of sangiovese & a superb value in chianti for daily consumption; balanced & expressive.

carnaroli soup w/escarole, little sausage meatballs, poached egg, pecorino (1026 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 5/4/2021 & rated 90 points: Medium red; red berries; nice, straightforward, very light hint of tannins at the end, good acidity, nice body; good everyday wine (1122 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 4/27/2021 & rated 89 points: Medium ruby color. Nose shows cherries, red plums and pomegranate, along with tobacco leaf, leather, bay leaf, and some sage and violets. Impressive structure but the tannins have rounded edges and there’s nicely balanced acidity. Tangy plum and cherry fruit mixes well with elements of tobacco, loam, violets, with notes of cocoa and pencil shavings. Opens nicely with air and boasts quite a bit of complexity and balance for a sub-$20 wine. (1064 views)
Tasted by Arsene on 4/2/2021 & rated 88 points: Transparent rød.
Umiddelbart unge røde bær, kirsebær. Floral og en touch av fat. Senere milde pepper aromaer.
I munnen er uttrykket mer modne kirsebær. Dette er en elegant Chianti, fløyelsmyk og tilgjengelig. I utgangen mer jordlig og kanskje mer rustikk.
Varm med smak tobakk helt til slutt. Middels lengde trekker litt ned. (905 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 3/31/2021: A little lighter and more translucent than most of the Chianti we drink. Lighter bodied, too, but this is pretty solid, and enjoyable with pizza. I'd be happy to see this on a restaurant wine list by the glass.

This was drinking great on the second day. Good value here. (986 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 3/25/2021 & rated 89 points: I drink about one of these a year and always find it a reliably honest expression of Chianti terrior free of heavy handed winemaking. This btl was true to form. Opened a couple hours prior to dinner I found it mostly resolved & open. So decided to simply slow ox in glass and btl. There was a touch of secondary fermentation w/ tiny bubbles in the glass so I gave it a hearty shake too. The color is a semi translucent ruby red. Aromas are leather, berries and underbrush. Palate is dominated by maraschino cherry along with a mix of faint earthy leather, licorice, herbs and more underbrush. All in all, once again what you expect from real chianti. The mouthfeel is weightlessly elegant and pleasing. Never noticed this wine showing any bitterness like some chiantis. I prefer all my reds in the high 50s low low 60s and that works best here too IMO. 13.5% alc Not amazing but very satisfying. 89+ (1229 views)
Tasted by caesar77 on 3/20/2021 & rated 91 points: Nose of sour cherry, sweet tobacco and green herbs leading into a palate of the same with a medium-length finish. Wine pairs exceptionally well with Italian fare, and there were absolute fireworks with sausage that had anise in it (this wine generally seems to "pop" herbal/green flavors). (970 views)
Tasted by darkfeld on 2/27/2021 & rated 88 points: Nice, fruit forward tonight. Fair value (1029 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 2/25/2021: This is really jamming tonight. Elegant and textured red red fruit palate. Some sandalwood well placed on the palate too. Has a elegant vibe, propped up with some fruit underlay that still keeps it easy drinking. (976 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 2/10/2021 & rated 87 points: I’m not sure how Galloni gets to 92 points on this wine. On the palate, it’s perfectly fine and in line with some previous vintages. However, it is lighter in body than either the 2016 or 2017, and is certainly not distinct or memorable in any fashion at this point. It’s a perfectly serviceable $12 Chianti for a mid-week drinking, but there are better options for a few dollars more. (1064 views)
Tasted by S. Connery on 1/27/2021 & rated 87 points: Lukt av elegant , moden frukt og bjørk. Fersk frukt, rund smak, men likevel med lang utgang med behagelige tanniner. (1121 views)
Tasted by Davidbre on 1/22/2021 & rated 85 points: This has potential!
Red fruits, some spices, liquirice, light with a Long stay (1164 views)
Tasted by VinRune on 1/15/2021 & rated 85 points: Kirsebær, skogsbær, noe eik og krydder.
Fin til pasta. (990 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
