| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by ivsimler on 10/2/2021 & rated 90 points: Not the same as the old vine from years past, but still damn tasty. (1514 views) | | Tasted by bavaur on 6/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Chilled, popped and poured. Very aromatic nose of flinty tropical fruit. Ever so waxy mouthfeel with lots of minerality and fresh tropical fruit. Not at all heavy, oaky or sweet, very much on the steely side. Blind I would definitely have called this as a cool Sauvignon Blanc rather than a Chenin. Better than a year ago, more giving and full bodied. (1497 views) | | Tasted by RohzWine on 6/3/2021 & rated 90 points: Fresh and rounded lemon, peach, and honeysuckle. Very good acidity balance. Great with a wide range of food parings and lively on its own. (1504 views) | | Tasted by argilog on 4/12/2021 & rated 89 points: Maybe too young? Definitely very dry. Fresh flavor of lemon/lime, but acid toned down relative to sauvignon blanc - I like that. The finish was clean and crisp, but lacked the light lemon rind bitterness that I have associated with the best chenin blancs that I have had.
Definitely not bad, but not looking to drink more. (1653 views) | | Tasted by ivsimler on 4/10/2021 & rated 89 points: Seriously, this is just so crisp and tasty. Perfect light white wine. (1587 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 3/15/2021: {same as before}, which apparently means this can sit in the bottle for at least one year to no ill effect. (935 views) | | Tasted by brasstab on 10/24/2020 & rated 92 points: The perfect start to a perfect evening -- the (virtual) release party for Chappellet Pritchard Hill 2017 (926 views) | | Tasted by jkvedar on 8/18/2020 & rated 90 points: Very special Chenin. Bone dry, white flowers. citrus peel and wet rocks. Great with food. (1028 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 8/17/2020: Same as before. Paired well with jambalaya. (1153 views) | | Tasted by bavaur on 8/14/2020 & rated 89 points: Fresh apples and a vibrant acidity definitely set this apart from your standard Loire Chenin. Good summer drinker and a great neutral food match. There is no way I would have deduced this was a Chenin from a blind taste. (794 views) | | Tasted by rougeamore on 8/5/2020 & rated 90 points: Aromas and flavors of lemon and citrus with some minerality. Crisp with the right balance of acidity. (910 views) | | Tasted by wine4lux on 6/19/2020 & rated 92 points: Crisp clean stone fruit and apple notes. Year in year out, a wine well made (884 views) | | Tasted by aniowahawkeye on 6/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Crisp. Very nice. Bit of citrus. (672 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 5/29/2020: -- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 3 to 4 hours --
NOSE: expressive; strong mineral; intense floral stone fruit; hint of soft spearmint.
BODY: medium-light to medium bodied; under Nomacorc; green-yellow color of light intensity.
TASTE: juicy acidity; strong mineral aspect, too, but it's situated behind plenty of ripe, expressive, fruit (peach donut ring gummy candies); 13.7% alc. is a little noticeable. Very nice. Should never be mistaken for a Vouvray or Saumur. Bought a bunch for summertime quaffing. (1186 views) | | Tasted by brasstab on 5/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Perfect sunny day wine. Lemon pith and delightful minerality. A Poolside dream. (842 views) | | Tasted by rougeamore on 5/9/2020 & rated 89 points: Nice crisp wine that went well with fish. Bright acidity, lemon and slight tropical flavors. (781 views) | | Tasted by bqvino on 5/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Bright, fresh, perfect springtime quarantine white - paired with seafood, shellfish - citrus, lemon, minerality, mint - very nice! Chenin Blanc Varietal character (Appellation America)USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
