Community Tasting Notes (average 89 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 146 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by PIntag on 10/29/2023 & rated 89 points: This has settled down since I last tried this in early 2021. The primary fruit character has mostly been shed now and this is showing more of its detail. Alcohol sticks out a bit. Good Rhone character. Good balancing acidity. Versatile food wine, as well. (974 views)
Tasted by mrkoors on 7/11/2023 & rated 86 points: Giving it as much time as possible, plum and licorice, still a bit rough. OK with BBQ pork with sauce. (1318 views)
Tasted by gpunch on 7/9/2023 & rated 87 points: Nose: Blackberry, botanicals like from vermouth.
Palate: Berry compote, prunes, wintergreen. Firm, powdery tannins, medium- acidity, medium+ body. (1134 views)
Tasted by mac-eye on 7/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Really good in absolute terms, not scaled up because it's inexpensive. Hits all the right syrah notes. Best with a decant and a short time with air. (1138 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 6/23/2023: Way young but approachable nonetheless. Just as you would expect: plum, cherry, orange zest, leather, brined black olives, and a touch of smoke on nose and palate. Angular tannins that need more time to integrate. Sufficient length on the finish to make it interesting and quaffable. No sediment. Will be hard to keep my hands off this for a few more years. 14.5% alc. With brined black olives and blue cheeses. 06.23.23. Recommended. (1154 views)
Tasted by DannyM on 3/25/2023: Brought to Llanos for Cyndi & Dan’s birthday…awesome! (1193 views)
Tasted by gharter on 3/13/2023 & rated 92 points: PnP. This is a beast! Huge aromas of plums and tart currants, smoke and anise. Layers of fruit showing plums, black fruits, spice, currant, smoke and anise. Good acidity and a long finish with moderate tannins. Showing really well now, but should improve over the next few years, if you can keep your hands off them. (1003 views)
Tasted by timewithwine on 3/5/2023: No light escapes from this wine. It is an inky ox blood. Scents of blackberry, dried herbs, smoked meats and tobo waft from the glass, then morph into flavors across the palate. This is a dense, chewy wine. It is just becoming approachable and will have years of life in front of it. Throwing some serious sediment. 14.5% alc. With grilled sausages (chorizo and truffle). 03.05.23. Recommended. (1030 views)
Tasted by mvande21 on 2/24/2023 & rated 90 points: A consistent short-term weekday standby in my cellar. 2019 vintage is a step up Ch Saint Cosme value. Black fruit, violets, pepper. Medium/full bodied, in balance with a smooth finish. Hard to beat QPR at $16 if you like southern Rhones. (313 views)
Tasted by mcromain1021 on 12/18/2022 & rated 92 points: One day, I will hold onto these wines and see how they age, but they are so damn tasty upon release, it is hard to resist. Big and bold, peppery, dark fruits and lively on the palate. Drink/hold (1216 views)
Tasted by mac-eye on 10/9/2022 & rated 90 points: Very nice. Amazing QPR. Still young with notable tannins. Long way to go. (774 views)
Tasted by D_RICH on 9/17/2022: No contemporaneous notes. One hour of air; double decant. This impressive full bodied Cotes du Rhpne was structured and probably at the very earliest stages of it drinking window. I will give my remaining bottles time. (1596 views)
Tasted by Reflous on 8/28/2022 & rated 92 points: Very good and high value at $17/bottle. Opened up nicely and is ready to drink. Paired really well with fresh cheeses and tri tip. (1623 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/8/2022 & rated 90 points: A perennial purchase for me. This vintage shows deep, saucy plums and tart currants, along with campfire smoke and anise. Nice grip on the palate with surprisingly lively acidity. The plummy, raspberry fruit is saucy and "real" tasting. The savory elements of earth, mushroom, black pepper, cinnamon and pepperoni add complexity. Love it for the price. (1759 views)
Tasted by stevemar on 6/29/2022 & rated 89 points: Deep purple, medium nose, blackberry, blueberry, earth. Medium body, Medium acid and medium to high tannins.
Black cherry, blackberry, light pepper, earth. long finish (1727 views)
Tasted by cwiebe on 5/7/2022 & rated 89 points: Falls off a little from tasting 2 years ago. Still a well balanced wine, but the loss of some of the past sweetness makes it a little more ordinary. (1879 views)
Tasted by dwrpayne on 4/29/2022 & rated 87 points: Good! Pencil shavings on the nose, herby and woody flavor. Rounded tannins, went amazingly with lamb. (1425 views)
Tasted by Gene_Mo on 4/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Better vintage than the last one I bought. Great weekday wine. (1469 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 3/24/2022 & rated 90 points: this is a beautiful example of why French Syrah is better than CA Syrah. Great dark fruit with pepper, earth and spice. Got better on second night. Great QPR as well. (1582 views)
Tasted by mcromain1021 on 3/13/2022 & rated 91 points: Did someone say QPR? Perennial favorite here. Dark and deep purple in color. Notes of raspberry, cherry and spices. Pronounced tannins give this a backbone and this can rest longer, but so delicious now with a slightly peppery finish. Drink or hold. (1630 views)
Tasted by axz055 on 2/12/2022 & rated 89 points: Dark cherry and vanilla on the nose. Ripe dark fruit and some peppery spice on the palate. Medium plus acid, moderate tannins, medium body, and a medium finish. (1636 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 2/5/2022 & rated 89 points: 100% Syrah; Deep purple-crimson the nose shows classic garrigue, violets, bilberries and black peppercorns. As it opens, it reveals more creme de mure, sour morello cherries and smoke.
Medium-bodied, this ripe fruited wine has a gravelly entry and lively acidity. Ripe with a core of black cherry, blackberry there is a pepper-encrusted structure. There is a hint of lavender and wild fennel, giving freshness and vibrancy to the mid-palate. Ripe, the tannins have a mineral, warm gravel texture to them; The hot cayenne spice spikes the alcohol a little while the wine feels quite extracted despite leading to a long finish. Some density for a Cote du Rhone but reflects its Syrah dominance. (764 views)
Tasted by red freddy on 1/25/2022 & rated 90 points: Impulse purchase at Costco.
14.5% abv - $11

Served after a one-hour decant with meatloaf. Côtes-du-Rhône Red, label does not specify but others mention 100% Syrah. Medium-bodied, full-flavored, with Blackberry, Cherry and Plum on the palate; notes of white pepper. Supple Tannins had some 'grip' and provided a little fuzziness on the tooth. Ample acid resulted in a pleasant lingering finish.

Very similar to the 2018 vintage which I enjoyed. (1673 views)
Tasted by timcardk on 12/27/2021 & rated 84 points: Not settled after transport ? Strange one dimensional fruit and ackward tannins. Driven from Berlin to Copenhagen on December 22. (1968 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 11/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Medium+ nose intensity with notes of black berry, cassis, spices, toast, vanilla, pencil lead. A very affordable wine and value for money. In its drinking window now. (2013 views)

Aged 6 mos in 100 hl cement vats.” 35,000 cases made, 20,000 cases imported to the U.S.

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.
