| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 16 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by D_RICH on 5/25/2024: No contemporaneous notes. From a half-bottle. PnP. Elegant and very restrained at the moment. My friend identified a specific fruit (pears?) that I can't recall now. Will try another half-bottle later in the summer. This was consumed rather quickly. (100 views) | | Tasted by Miguelvino@yahoo.com on 4/14/2024 & rated 92 points: Honey apricot medium-full body, medium full aftertaste, ready to drink with plenty of life ahead. (1078 views) | | Tasted by Scapolite on 4/6/2024 & rated 91 points: Medium golden yellow with a wide rainy, translucent rim with some legs.
Intensely sweet on the nose with honey, caramel, crème brûlée, toffee, along with tropical fruits in pineapples, pears and dried apricots.
On the palate, it is quite tropical fruit forward in the beginning with pineapples and apricots, and transitions to the caramel and toffee notes in the mid palate. There is a good amount of acidity as well, which balances the sweetness and the fruits. Finish is decently long with a bit of heat, with the caramel and vanilla notes lingering around.
Sweet, but not overly so, with the acidity keeping this fresh. Delicious. Palate showing full body, nice texture, pear, strong tea/chamomile notes, alcohol heat, med body, pear flavored fresh finish (2402 views) | | Tasted by EK001 on 10/8/2023 & rated 93 points: On the sweeter side. But great floral, honey and sweet flavours (2063 views) | | Tasted by ElAzul on 7/1/2023 & rated 91 points: Golden yellow hue, aroma of apricot and pineapple and flavors of apricot, pineapple and orange marmalade with just a slight note of honey. Nice acidic backbone supports the flavors in a lively manner and not at all sappy. No hint of botrysis . Already drinking well but will evolve for another 10 years. (2559 views) | | Tasted by burgund on 4/10/2023 & rated 91 points: Good balance - but taken to early. Some noble rot, fruithy and medium long. 91+ (2968 views) | | Tasted by ZaphodB on 2/18/2023 & rated 95 points: Golden yellow hue. Nose is pleasant, sweet and complex with notes of marzipan, saffron, dried apricots and peaches, and sultana raisins. Mouthfeel is rich and generous, sweet, yet still elegant, fresh and well balanced, with notes of marzipan, dried apricots and peaches, papaya and sultana raisins, with a long, persistent finish.
This is just an excellent and very elegant Barsac, drinks beautifully already, but will certainly develop well for decades. (3109 views) | | Tasted by mdnatom on 2/15/2023 & rated 75 points: far too sweet and overpowering (2757 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 3/29/2022 & rated 94 points: Flowers, orange blossoms, pineapple. mango creme brulee and vanilla scents are all over the place here. Sweet, fresh and most importantly, zesty, the finish leans to the tropical orange side with a liberal drizzle of honey and orange marmalade. Drink from 2022-2045. 2025-2050. (Juni 2020) vvWine.ch (3415 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 6/9/2020 & rated 93 points: Orange blossoms, honey, cinnamon spice, creme brulee, pineapple and candied apricots create the perfume. On the palate, the wine pops with honey-drenched pineapple, mango and orange marmalade. As sweet as this is, there is ample freshness to keep everything lifted. 92-94 Pts (7482 views) |

A prestigious 1er Cru Classé estate, Château Coutet is the oldest and largest property in Barsac. The estate has been owned by the Baly family since 1977. The name ‘Coutet’ is derived from the Gascon’s word for knife and the estate’s wines are renowned for their fresh ‘cutting’ acidity and crisp lively palate. Château Coutet has 35 hectares of vineyards planted to Sémillon (75%), Sauvignon Blanc (23%) and Muscadelle (2%). In their youth the wines show beguiling aromas of citrus, tropical fruits, white flowers, honey and ginger, revealing more candied fruit, gingerbread notes with age. The wine is matured in oak barriques for 18 months.France Vins de France (Office National Interprofessionnel des Vins ) | Pages Vins, Directory of French Winegrowers | French Wine (Wikipedia)

History of Bordeaux
History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification
"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson
"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman "The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson
"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson
"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon RimmermanBarsac Appellation Barsac - Read details and information about Barsac |
