Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ccn on 7/9/2016 & rated 91 points: Glorious wine for a villages, at absolute peak. Slight burnt-matchstick reduction, great length and depth, ripe + minerals + acidity. After 45 minutes began to lose some definition -- this feels fully mature & time to drink up (1997 views)
Tasted by vegasoenophile on 6/15/2012 & rated 94 points: Pure nose of white peach and flowers, light citrus and a hint of melon. Vibrant, bright fruit on the palate. Citrus zest, fuji apple, melon and a slight leesy quality. Very complex, layered and well balanced. Drinking great now!
France vs. US Blind Tasting 6/15/12 (3316 views)
Tasted by WinoRick on 4/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Coming into its own. For a village wine, this is excellent. Balanced, with the requisite minerals and steeliness. 91 Points, a little better than my last bottle. (3350 views)
Tasted by JesperR on 1/27/2011 & rated 91 points: Quite pale. A bit closed in at first, dusty, but opens up with an hour decant. This is concentrated and long, racy and fine with this intriguing lemon-twist in the finish that sort of knits it all together. Has evolved splendidly, is now approaching maturity imo. Super QPR and a lovely example of village puligny at its best. (3903 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 1/1/2011 & rated 90 points: served this for new year's day dinner at selkirk manor. shared with pat, ellen and mahesh. paired with colossal shrimp (boiled then chilled). i opened this bottle since available reviews did not portend great longevity. the wine was initially somewhat flabby. after a few minutes it developed a hefty nose of walnut and hazelnut. mahesh detected granny apple. the wine improved somewhat as it warmed from fridge temperature to room temperature. overall, the wine was very enjoyable and offered a good introduction to puligny-montrachet for which we have limited tasting experience. nevertheless, it was somewhat disappointing in comparison with my expectations. re-reading wine advocate note, it appears that the winemaker went a little too far in creating a dry wine to satisfy my taste preferences. i am glad that i obtained this wine at a deeply discounted price. i do not see this wine improving with additional bottle age.  Tasted by pgb67 on 10/21/2010 & rated 90 points: Aromas of honeysuckle with hints of pear and butterscotch, with a soft palate of apricot featuring a honeyed texture. The finish was crisp with an orange peel aftertaste. My retailer suggested it is time to drink this up, and I tend to agree. (2206 views)
Tasted by ArtF on 10/13/2010 & rated 88 points: At peak or slightly past. Drink up. (1621 views)
Tasted by Rubinstein on 6/20/2010 & rated 90 points: Very good, drinking very well. Lovely nose with perfume and a little caramal. This is a wonderfull village wine. 90+ (1642 views)
Tasted by BenRoberts on 3/28/2010: The more I try this wine the more I enjoy it. Fuji apple with a hints of lightly baked pastries and a hint of caramel. A very nice balance of crispness to sweet buttery notes. Hints of granny smith apples just lightly toasted, gooseberry, carameled oak with a sweet pastry like finish. (2420 views)
Tasted by Rubinstein on 11/20/2009 & rated 91 points: Liked this very much. Nuts and crisp toast on the nose. The taste is relatively fat with peach and nuts. It is nicely balance. a terrific Village Wine. 91+ (1829 views)
Tasted by gorm on 5/17/2009 & rated 92 points: Just keeps improving. (1806 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 8/27/2008 & rated 91 points: What Gorm wrote on 21-07-2008. Very enjoyable at the moment. Excellent freshness and charm. (1979 views)
Tasted by gorm on 7/21/2008 & rated 91 points: Similar to last note except perhaps at bit more forward to start with. Very accessible and charming and at the moment my favorite over the potentially bigger 05. (1935 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 2/9/2008 & rated 91 points: Focused, minerally nose; very tasty, tart citrus and mineral palate, with some juiciness; medium finish (1788 views)
Tasted by gorm on 1/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Light yellow. Nice and delicious nose of sulphur and shale rocks, licorice, hints of nuts and flowers, primarily minerals. A bit fragile in the mouth without much length or intensity, but good taste. With a bit of air the fruit becomes more evident. Very nice. (2125 views)
Tasted by Brnshj22 on 11/23/2007 & rated 90 points: Not as fat as the 2005 vintage. More mineral driven and less fruit driven at the moment. Great structure. A very intellectual wine and I have high hopes for this. 90+ (2128 views)

Jean-Marc Boillot Producer Website

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
