Tasted by Giggs on 10/28/2023 & rated 90 points: This bottle came from a wine shop where it appears to have been stored upright for a few years, and it’s not corked but is slightly barrel-marked. Straightforward Stellenbosch nose, tons of blackberry, nutty wood spice, scorched earth, good acidity. Really good for the price and still has a couple years of upside, assuming ideal storage and preservation. (339 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 6/30/2023 & rated 90 points: Clear, deep red color, with 3 to 4 rings of gradation
Bold and multilayered nose, of dark berries, pencil shavings
Lovely full entry, structured tannins, follows through well from nose with blueberry, and leather. Full flavoured, multilayered but well integrated.
Drinking well now but will continue to improve for next 2 to 4 years (484 views)
Tasted by BottleScholar on 5/26/2023 & rated 91 points: Ripe savory black fruit. Blackberry, black plum, black licorice, hoisin, cigar box, charred wood, Chinese five-spice, beef jerky, potting soil, mild menthol (more than eucalyptus), and faint tire rubber and green bell pepper. Deep garnet, barely beyond ruby color. Aromatic intensity: M. Dry. Acid: M+, almost high (and possibly acidulated). Alcohol: H, 14%. Tannin: M+, fine-grained. Body: M+. Flavor intensity: M+. Finish: M+, almost Long. Complexity: M+/High. Very Good. Suitable for aging. (550 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 3/3/2023 & rated 90 points: Delicious red fruit , full bodied wine, full of flavor. (638 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 1/10/2023 & rated 89 points: Wonderful full bodied wine, ready to drink (680 views)
Tasted by stayhappy21 on 12/14/2022 & rated 91 points: Opened this wine at The Ylang Ylang Villa (Bali) with my family on vacation. We had a poolside/ seaside BBQ dinner.

Decanted for an hour prior to consumption. Dark purple in colour with notes of ash, tobacco, fresh berries, tar, cigar box and cassis.

Smooth and complex and ever evolving in the glass. Strongly recommended to age this wine for the next 5 to 10 years before consumption. (598 views)
Tasted by richardkim on 11/28/2022 & rated 91 points: Lively fruits of blackcurrant and blueberry, also tobacco and leather to suggest an old world quality. Tannins are fine and there is little oak influence. My initial impression was that the acidity was overpowering. But after some time in the glass this blew off. The resulting wine is generous with its fruit, has a silky body, and a firm backbone. Give this wine an hour of air and it will reward you. (494 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 9/9/2022 & rated 94 points: Exceptional wine really enjoying it. Full bodied but completely integrated and smooth to drink. Complex and delicous. (486 views)
Tasted by Ernestas on 9/6/2022 & rated 90 points: Pleasantly lean and elegant CS with 7% PV, aged for 18 months in FR oak barrels, 20% new. Medium+ ruby colour. Medium intensity complex aroma of spiced blackberries, cassis, tar, violets, chocolate and toast hints, dried herbs and strawberry scent. Medium body, entry is flavourful and elegantly lean with fragrant but well integrated and balanced flavours, everything feels measured and focused. Texture is smooth and medium densed supported by structured fine grained tannins, concluding with mildly toasted and dark fruit finish. (445 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 8/31/2022 & rated 94 points: Really great quality wine. Highly recommend ready to drink but will continue to improve. (358 views)
Tasted by LeSow on 7/30/2022 & rated 92 points: Dark fruit blackberry primarily, legume on the nose. Medium length. Tannins say this can age a while yet. Slight vanilla, I suspect more leather in a couple years. High alcohol. Better after an hour of breathing. (443 views)
Tasted by Peter Spijker on 5/7/2022: Dark ruby, cherry, blackberry, cigar box, cedar, dried herbs, medium + tannins, medium + acidity. Way too young and harsh when just opened. (494 views)
Tasted by KVM on 10/20/2021: Inky dark. Black pepper, white pepper and black berry nose. this is a rude blockbuster when first opened. One glass drunk and then recorked and set upright in my cellar for 5 days after which it became a proper dinner guest. (776 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 3/12/2021 & rated 88 points: Thoroughly enjoying this wine at the moment, quite complex and will definitely improve over next few years. Definitely look to get some more (878 views)
Tasted by Lyndon.king on 2/18/2021 & rated 87 points: Really like this, solid wine at this price point buy some more to keep

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

Stellenbosch Wine Routes

Stellenbosch

The historical town of Stellenbosch boasts a winemaking tradition which stretches back to the end of the 17th-century.

Stellenbosch is the educational and research centre of the winelands. Stellenbosch University is the only one in South Africa with a viticultural and oenological department, and many of the country's most successful winemakers studied there. The Nietvoorbij Institute of Viticulture and Oenology is also in Stellenbosch and this organisation has one of the most modern experimental wineries in the world and, at its experimental farms (situated in several wine growing districts), important research into new varietals, clones and rootstocks is undertaken.

The mountainous terrain, good rainfall, deep well-drained soils and diversity of terroirs make this a sought-after viticultural area. The rapidly increasing number of wine estates includes some of the most famous names in Cape wine. The district, with its mix of historic estates and contemporary wineries, produces excellent examples of almost all the noble grape varieties.

The intensively farmed Stellenbosch district has been divided up into several smaller viticultural pockets including Jonkershoek Valley, Papegaaiberg, Simonsberg-Stellenbosch, Bottelary, Devon Valley and Banghoek.
