Tasted by Barolo Freak on 12/30/2023 & rated 85 points: The first of many Christmas gifts I received this year. The 2019 Prisoner Unshackled is not my type of wine. It is a blend of many grapes, and there is a bit too much happening for my taste. I'm sure that this wine has its fans, but I cant say that I'm one. (563 views)
Tasted by bigbass250 on 11/2/2023: expected better flavor (819 views)
Tasted by Daryll on 9/23/2023 & rated 90 points: Very nice right upon opening. Berry notes. Opening up with some air - did not decant this bottle. (915 views)
Tasted by DrinkUpJim on 7/25/2023 & rated 70 points: Won at auction. Very good, fruity.
Edit: a few days later, smelled like whiskey. Lowering score. (1133 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 5/13/2023 & rated 90 points: Delicious notes. There are ripe black fruits, cinnamon, clove and dark chocolate on the nose. Smooth and rounded texture on a medium-bodied structure. A popular and delicious style. Finish is clean and deep. Ready to drink now without decanting. (1305 views)
Tasted by BobMilton on 2/10/2023 & rated 89 points: Decent enough, but not fruit forward (really?) (1378 views)
Tasted by jmenard24 on 1/20/2023: Elegant (1432 views)
Tasted by bigbass250 on 11/25/2022: easy drinking Thanksgiving Friday before dinner (1686 views)
Tasted by Bin707LoversDetroit on 10/24/2022 & rated 88 points: It was a gift from a friend over the Summer, and we drank it Halloween week; and like another CT reviewer said, it surely "didn't embarrass itself." We've had some pretty bad gifts of wine over the years. This is not bad at all. No depth, complexity, or acid backbone for cellaring, BUT not bad juice overall. Decent fruit, and our glasses kept emptying. What else could one ask for?

We found a local store with it for 20 bucks a bottle, and one of our guests is going now to buy a case of it...

Be well. (2065 views)
Tasted by Weiss Family on 10/14/2022 & rated 87 points: Good wine for the price (1669 views)
Tasted by glassofhans on 8/28/2022 & rated 84 points: There’s no depth of flavour - it’s got a rather watery body compared to typical Cab I’d have from Cali, acidity is medium, and finish is short. I had imagined that as a Californian bulk wine at this price point the maker might have used more heavy oak (chips) or dosed with mega purple , but this doesn’t seem to be the case here. Concentration is low - which makes me think that this is probably Central Valley, bulk farmed, high yields per hectare. (1706 views)
Tasted by pupaes on 8/19/2022 & rated 88 points: fruit forward with a vanilla on the nose. sweet finish with a little vanilla or perhaps coconut. i would drink now. not enough tannins to last. decent QPR. (1562 views)
Tasted by gamlingman on 7/26/2022 & rated 87 points: Interesting wine not fantastic but solid enough though once we it $20.00 plus I expect a bit more. Nice color but not particularly full bodied. Nose is rich and dense with cocoa. Gritty and complex with a bit of spice would be a good description, though it lacked deep structure or tannins it certainly didn't embarrass itself. (1291 views)
Tasted by Sl8works on 6/7/2022 & rated 66 points: Peppery/spicy but not too thick. Not sweet at all but isnt particularly full.

From the vineyard: Aromas of black cherry and ripe plum are layered with vanilla and baking spice. Concentrated dark fruit flavors culminate in a lush, full mouthfeel and a lengthy finish. (1222 views)
Tasted by ssenter1962 on 5/13/2022 & rated 90 points: Very good wine with dinner, berry and oak flavor (1363 views)
Tasted by Rev John on 5/8/2022 & rated 85 points: Peg says: jammy smooth (969 views)
Tasted by Devodad on 4/20/2022 & rated 87 points: Good wine for the price. Fruit forward. Some crushed petals in the mid-palate. Not real long on the finish. (1106 views)
Tasted by Mlupton26 on 3/9/2022 & rated 89 points: Very good with beef tenderloin. Outstanding actually. Big and bold, oak and vanilla. (1328 views)
Tasted by Acostaca on 2/11/2022 & rated 90 points: A well structured cab in the California style. Full bodied with a hint of acidity and approachable tannins. (1265 views)
Tasted by Rudolph Schmidt on 1/16/2022: A blend of 80% Cab, 10% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah, & 5% Merlot.

Big, bodacious, slap yer ol' lady on the ass. Massive jammy black fruit, vanilla, touch of tobacco & leather. This grape juice lacks the back bone needed for it to have longevity. Drink up now. (1354 views)
Tasted by @yourfavoritewino on 1/14/2022: Would buy in sale again. Enjoyable, not knock out of the water though. Fruity and Full (1228 views)
Tasted by Luke_Hearne on 12/27/2021 & rated 100 points: Best wine ever. Smooth & flavoursome. Not heavy. (1325 views)
Tasted by mike_and_sal on 12/11/2021 & rated 81 points: Oily, unpleasant mouth feel that really lingers (1184 views)
Tasted by TandPStannard on 12/5/2021: Nice - but not mind blowing - but again if on sale (1044 views)
Tasted by gamlingman on 12/2/2021 & rated 88 points: Dark ruby color with medium body & balanced tannins. Rich dark berries up front with an almost chalky finish with nice spice. Not sure this will get much better but was a very nice drinking wine with Veal last night! (849 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
