Tasted by Puteljen! on 10/14/2023 & rated 93 points: From mag.

Well into mature territory with a golden hue, this still preserves some fresh fruit with apples, clementine, litchie and peach on both nose and palate. Very fine and delicate mousse. On the palate also marzipan and toffe, quite candylike, but a fair acidity and some chalky minerals gives energy and poise. Medium+ lenght.

Good stuff in a rich style. Holding up well but won't improve. (360 views)
Tasted by plitton on 2/26/2022 & rated 92 points: From a magnum. Popped and poured. Yeast, lemon. Mature with subtlety, not spry. Delicious. (1345 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 12/31/2019 & rated 93 points: This bottle a wee bit more mature than previous ones with delicate mousse, notes of mushroom, marzipan, orangeblossom, lime and lemon. On the palate still good acidity and less broad than on the nose with chalk and iron minerals. Medium lenght. See also previous notes. (2221 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 10/5/2019 & rated 92 points: 3rd Annual Gentlemens Dinner (Villa Ekenhov): Nose of mushrooms, ripe lemon, winegums and light vanilla. On the palate broad and powerfull. Sweet citrus, almonds and mushrooms. This bottle shows more development than the last one. Good stuff. Went well with lobster soup. (2411 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/9/2019: From magnum. Powerful and rich and not slowing down. (2394 views)
Tasted by Puteljen! on 3/30/2019 & rated 92 points: On the nose a bit shy at first but opens up revealing a veritable candy store with wine gums, nougat, dried apricots and vanilla. Just hints of a grassy, chalky minerality. On the palate fresh with good acidity and mousse. Again candy-like, and just a tad too sweet for my taste and perhaps a bit simple or at least straigh-forward. Some development of course, but still drinking fairly young from magnum. No nuts, gunpowder or white chocolate yet. Guessing there might be some upside yet acctually, if it gains more compexity. (2230 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 3/17/2018: Lots of power still. Rich. (2379 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/1/2017 & rated 93 points: Dinner at TDS (Chicago, IL): A real full and polished nose that is still quite fresh with ripe apple. The palate is round and rich with prominent barrel notes. Acids here are light but sufficient to keep the palate fresh. Mouthing-coating and voluminous. A super enjoyable and mature Champagne. (2652 views)
Tasted by acyso on 8/1/2017 & rated 95 points: Dinner at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): Everything about this wine, from the packaging to the finish, is gorgeous. There was a bit of bread and a decent share of oak on the nose, as well as a generous helping of sweet orchard fruit. The palate has ample fruit as well, as well as a slight touch of nuttiness (though the hazelnut/almond tones definitely increased with more air). Not heavy, despite the oak and oxidative treatment, but everything is in perfect balance. This is an intense and potent champagne, still on the upswing, but I am more than pleased to have caught this where it is tonight. (3036 views)
Tasted by Keith Levenberg on 5/7/2017 & rated 91 points: My last bottle. This is practically ageless. The fruit tastes just barely more mature than it did when it came out. Just the slightest hints of sweeter jam flavors on the deeper end of the scale. But for the most part it's as bright as a ray of sunshine. (5874 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 12/2/2016 & rated 93 points: Champagne - 100 Vintage and NV Champagne; 12/15/2015-12/15/2020: During a tasting dinner. From Magnum. Still very young nose with elements of yeast, flowers, some citrus fruit. Lively and fresh on the palate. Felt so young. Medium complexity, good intensity. (4559 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 12/2/2016 & rated 93 points: CdBdx Gala Dinner 2016 (Pollen): Woah this was good! From magnum bottles. Drank from white wine glasses. Served as an aperitif to start, but this is far from an aperitif. In your face serious.
Appearance is clear, pale yellow-lemon colour. Fine fading fizz. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of nutty toast, brioche, seashell minerality, citrus lemon-lime, some smoke. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of rich citrus lemon-lime, nutty toast, creamy brioche, seashell minerality, and a sensation of sweet floral perfume filling the mouth. Long finish.
Outstanding quality. Tastes developed but fruit still going very strong. Enjoy, why wait anyway.
A specialty cuvee (apparently no longer made) that is fermented and aged in Barrique as well as given five years on the lees.
Blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. From the oldest vines on the estate and represents a mix of old and new for Vilmart - the old of the vineyards and the new of the barrique barrels that it is fermented in. (3003 views)
Tasted by LoireFan on 7/12/2016 & rated 95 points: Best Vilmart bottle ever for me. (2528 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 4/24/2015 & rated 96 points: Ripple and Ridonculous Wines (Ripple - Cleveland Park - Washington, DC): Rich and intense yet lively and bracing. Brioche, gorgeous minerals, spice and potpourri. Long, intense, such purity, a lovely Champagne. Wow. I have “wow” and “elegance” written down three times apiece. Absurdly good. From magnum. (4740 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 3/15/2015: From magnum. Off the cork pull crisp notes of chocolate and barrell. Lean, tight, and very pure. Very, very long and bright. We shall see how it eases in. (3311 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 1/1/2015 & rated 95 points: Drinking beautully out of the late disgorged magnum. Not as mesmeric as the very, very best champagnes - but a wonderfully balanced, enjoyable bottling (3062 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 11/23/2014 & rated 93 points: Fra magnum.
Flott parfymert nese, vanilje, søt gjærbakst.
Ganske svær og breial vin.
Meget bra konsentrasjon og akkurat nok friskhet til å takle det. Ingen skarpe kanter.
Sitter lenge i munn. 92-93p
Drikker du bare stram Mesnil, sliter du med denne. (3193 views)
Tasted by ubercuvee on 4/2/2014: Nice enough (late release mag) but in all honesty I preferred the Dom P I had earlier in the day - nothing wrong here of course, just this was showing a little too much autolytic character for an aperitif. (3492 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 2/22/2014 & rated 94 points: Creamy. Some toast. Big wine with sweet fruit. Very good acidity. Nice depth and finish. (2661 views)
Tasted by Krugman on 12/6/2013 & rated 93 points: This Magnum of the 1998 Cuvee Creation left quite an impression. This is one incredibly rich and powerful champagne. It is not overly complex, but that hardly makes a difference because drinking this champagne is like consuming a very rich fruit cocktail with butter, rum and spices mixed in for good measure. This is a full throttle in your face experience and is not for the timid - or anyone who only likes light and crisp aperitif champagnes - but is a great wine in its own right. Hurry up and grab some of the Cuvee Creation before it disappears forever (Vilmart no longer makes this champagne). (3021 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 10/18/2013 & rated 94 points: CT Texas VI - Return to San Antonio; 10/18/2013-10/19/2013 (San Antonio): I thought that this was spectacular. Great nose of crisp citrus, light toast, green apple, poached pears, and spice. On the palate, rich yet extremely focused with green apple, lemon curd, pears, and hint of toast. Long racy finish. The two champers provided a great start to the evening. (3613 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/28/2013: From magnum, and amazingly precise and spectacular. Next time I won't share it. (3316 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 7/27/2013: From Magnum. Rich and ripe with really easy balance. A faint brown aroma, but nothing's even remotely turning a big corner. Rich and robust, oak shows as a dissolving brick wall. Not unlike what would happen in Back to the Future. Creamy aromas, with cherry pit and almond. Lemon cream, but fruit seems beyond that, but I'm just not putting my finger on it. Fuller pear and some nice spicy texture. (2502 views)
Tasted by canan on 7/5/2013 & rated 95 points: Piedmont and Champagne (Østerbro): The nose is very closed and only leaves an elegant style impression.
Lots of green apples on the palate with a lot of elegance and beautiful flower aromas.
A very solid and good wine very much in complete balance. An elegant wine but still with an impressive acidity. (2355 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 7/3/2013 & rated 94 points: Ian's Blind @ Medlar (Medlar, London): Blind. magnum. Very fine bubbles, and in abundance. Lovely, fresh, lemony nose with warm brioche coming through with a little air. A chard heavy blend with PN. Lovely line with a nice prickle on the finish. Getting richer with air. Initially thought 96 but this might be 98. Turns out to be a grower, but no idea what. Ginger spice, pure long and elegant. Really lovely. ****1/2 (3197 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
