Tasted by Truett Akin on 11/6/2013: Gift from friend. Wine past it's prime. Bad cork. (1752 views)
Tasted by buffyst on 2/4/2013 & rated 89 points: The '06 MacRostie has a shimmering, translucent golden appearance on a medium frame. Deconstructed granny smith apples, caramel, guava, citrus and melon lead the way. Medium, melded tropical-fruit finish. With bottle age the '06 has developed a rich texture, a faint nutty flavor, and an attractive kerosene-like pungency, while maintaining enough acidity to carry the ripe fruit. 14.1% abv. QPR: steeply discounted. Drink now. (1677 views)
Tasted by markleberry on 10/16/2010 & rated 88 points: This needed to breathe before drinking and was more mellow and understated than bottles I had had previously. The nose was toasty with carmel and almonds. The toasted almond flavours carried through in the mouth with baked peach fruit flavours. Long finish of carmel and oak. (2418 views)
Tasted by fingers on 6/28/2010 flawed bottle: A rich gold color, 5% opaque. Quite stinky with a lot of malo, almond, marzipan, and a pinch of something rotten. Not that it's offensive, but it sure is weird. Palate is relatively light and nicely balanced with juicy acidity and firm texture. But there are some flavors in here I've never come across before. I guess the word complexity is applicable but I'm not sure I want all that funky dirt, smoke, and wood. There is some nice vanilla and apple taste underneath but it might have a sulphate issue . Perhaps an off bottle. From 375ml (5+8+12+5) = 80 (2507 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 5/12/2010 & rated 88 points: Pleasant nose. Tropical theme with a light and clean texture. Only on the finish does a richness and butteriness come in. Tasted best when slightly chilled. Had quite a chunk of tartrate crystals in the bottom. (2448 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 11/14/2009 & rated 90 points: served to susan and ira rudin on the occasion of their visit to selkirk manor. another great bottle of this reliable wine. bright and clean on the attack. moderately oaked mid palate fills the mouth. lingering aromatics. have to get more. (1247 views)
Tasted by rmm on 8/31/2009 & rated 88 points: So light it could almost be confused with a sauv blanc. Light light color with flowery nose and flavor of pear mixed with peach. Very excellent - not overly oaked, not buttery (1259 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 8/21/2009 & rated 90 points: served on the occasion of adele's visit from chicago. also shared with pat, lisa, grandma and grandpa pomponio who were at the table. very robust, upfront, firm grip. interesting alone as well as an accompaniment to my chicken salad dressed with spinach dip recipe. the wine remained solid even after being open for 30 minutes. (1168 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 7/26/2009 & rated 90 points: so far, there is excellent consistency of this wine from one bottle to the next, thus making it a reliable standby. tasting notes are the same as last time. this bottle held up well to wild snapper encrusted with fresh summer herbs. this wine goes to the head of the class. (1266 views)
Tasted by bacchus on 7/5/2009 & rated 90 points: most refreshing. very crisp. lots of citrus and lemon. no butter. nice structure and enough acid to keep on going for another year. will race back to the retailer before it is sold out. great summer drink with seafood. (1317 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/10/2009: Crisp and lemony. Delightful. Great chardonnay fruit on the nose. (1728 views)
Tasted by rdma on 11/16/2008 & rated 88 points: Bright yellow gold color that retained its color under light. Smells great, we noted bright green apple pie with a citrus finish. A refreshing, classic chardonnay -- so not a breakthrough, but very good. Thus, the 88 rating. (1798 views)
Tasted by Ombibulous on 11/15/2008 & rated 84 points: Half bottle cost $14. Good. Fairly well balanced, with decent flavour. A bit overpriced though. High good (83.5). (1711 views)
Tasted by Topper on 10/4/2008 & rated 90 points: Delicious stuff, especially at less than $20. I can't imagine much better qpr in a cal chard. There is a touch of oak and it is becoming nicely integrated, giving what could have been a simple wine a little bit of complexity and a lovely feeling of lushness on the palate. Why am I spending so much more on other producers? Could easily drink this any weeknight. (1737 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 6/18/2008: Steely, green apple, purity with great fruit. Clean bright and forceful on the palate. All whole cluster pressed. Full malo but fleshy acidity. Lingering finish. Just the barest hint of oak right now. Could be more integrated but just give it a year. (1920 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 6/15/2008 & rated 90 points: Color was a bit steely in addition to the light yellow. Very good fruit up front -- apples, pears -- with some spices and a well-balanced acidity and a bit of chalk and mineral. A nice long finish. (1717 views)
Tasted by rwoods81 on 12/16/2007 & rated 91 points: A fantastic well balanced Chard. Will buy more. (1974 views)
Tasted by rcc777 on 12/9/2007 & rated 90 points: great stuff, an outstanding chardonnay for the money (1903 views)
Tasted by 8trigram on 12/1/2007 & rated 90 points: Not as minerally as the 2005 but a nice effort. There's great balance between minerality and oak and neither is overly done. Good weekday Chardonnay that won't overwhelm your palette. I've been drinking these for a few years now and its always very consistent. I found it for $19.99 so I'll be drinking more. (2155 views)
Tasted by MeMyself&I on 7/3/2007 & rated 91 points: This may be the best effort yet from MacRostie in this Carneros region chardonnay. Not overly perfumed, not heavily oaked. Great balance in taste and mouthfeel. The first bottle was so surprising that we decided to drink the second one in the same week, I think I need to pick up some of this and set it down in the cellar for a while... (2018 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.
