Tasted by sachsen on 12/28/2019 & rated 91 points: A well cared for bottle still has years to go. (928 views)
Tasted by alexmb1 on 12/29/2018 & rated 90 points: I have always been a big fan of California wines from 1985-1995. This vintage fits nearly right in the middle and did not disappoint. There was plenty of fruit left in this bottle with well integrated tannin (its 26!). It is definitely a drink now bottle at this point. (1048 views)
Tasted by Ravi Deshpande on 4/11/2018 & rated 88 points: Balanced and still has fruit. Hint of brown on meniscus. Slight bitter finish. Lovely Cali style (French) oak on the nose. Not a big wine but it's survived 26 years and while not over the top yet I would drink up. (1243 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 2/7/2015 & rated 90 points: At Clos du Val, wonderful day thanks to Alex and Bill, the last pour was also the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon of the day, nose of cigar box, allspice, dry forest floor, and plum, more of the same on the palate, rich, tasty, touch of acid, medium body, drink and enjoy this 23 year old wine, medium finish that was tasty, subdued, and savory. (2565 views)
Tasted by stealthman_1 on 7/4/2014 & rated 89 points: Hanging on. Well balanced, still good color, brown sugar and baking spices. Goes well with Mediterranean chicken, but the wine hasn't gained significant complexity and largely is just fading away. I still like it and will enjoy the other two bottles, but we'll drink them in the next year. Finish is short, but pleasant. (2727 views)
Tasted by blash on 3/3/2013 & rated 89 points: I was really concerned that i may have waited too long to enjoy this wine. The cork was in pretty bad shape and ended up in a couple of pieces. The wine still had good color. The nose was nice, and to my surprise the flavor was very good. Not a lot of fruit, but a nice herb and mineral taste. Nice finish. I'm sure it was past it's prime, but still a solid wine. (2641 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 10/6/2012 & rated 88 points: Deep dark color but very little nose. Fruit was complex with little after taste. This wine was probably at its peak 5 years ago. (1698 views)

Clos du Val

Producer website
Clos Du Val, French for "small vineyard estate of a small valley," was founded in 1972 in the now legendary Stags Leap District by Franco-American entrepreneur John Goelet. After a worldwide search to purchase vineyard properties from which to craft world-class wines, 150 acres in Stags Leap and 180 acres in Carneros were chosen, solidifying Clos Du Val's iconic stature and formidable place in Napa Valley history. Today, for Clos Du Val Winemaker Ted Henry, it is the bounty from these renowned vineyards that acts as the foundation for the distinctive, terroir-driven wines of balance and elegance for which Clos Du Val is known.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
