Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 31 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Quinn05 on 6/4/2022: Certainly past its peak but still delicious. (211 views)
Tasted by Markus IWC on 9/28/2018 & rated 90 points: Vincent Dauvissat tasting #2: significantly less developed than the 05, surprising given that it's supposed to be a warm vintage.

Tight nose with yellow apples, pears, vanilla and some vegetative notes.

Rich mouthfeel with oak, spices and a long finish. Slightly bitter, a little clumsy, low acidity and out of balance. 90p

Tasted by Morrisson on 1/27/2018 & rated 89 points: Un vin qui nous offre encore beaucoup de puissance malgré son âge quand même vénérable. Il est encore très expressif avec une belle fraicheur. (1024 views)
Tasted by THECORKDORK on 6/21/2015 & rated 97 points: This wine has a level of clarity and precision that I dont think I've ever had in a wine, anywhere grand cru or not. Crystal clear, drinkable and complex. Love. (2546 views)
Tasted by AV2012 on 6/9/2015 & rated 92 points: Chablis: Quite deep yellow. Milky, soft, but intense nose, also herbal and exotic fruits. Med+ body, smokiness and flintiness also came forward with time. For a villages Chablis this was fully mature and at its peak, absolutely loved it. (2779 views)
Tasted by Average Wine Guy (MH) on 11/16/2013 & rated 89 points: A Flight of Chablis: The 2006 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis is light gold in colour with a slight oily, nutty nose of riped pineapples and spice on the nose. On the palate, a soft and calm entry that welcomes the palate. This is followed by quite fleshy peaches and pineapples with an underlying spice. There's some noticeable slight oak as well. Medium finish and a burst of acidity towards the end that keeps the wine very alive and almost fun! (3337 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/21/2013: Medium yellow. Nice lime and herb aromatics. Medium weight. More acidity and salinity than you'd expect with a bit of butteriness. Ironically, more tension and interest than the '06 Raveneau Montee de Tonnerre last night. (3149 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/17/2012: Progress Report-2006 Dauvissat and Raveneau Chablis (Northern California): Fairly ripe and rich without being exotic. Drinking well now. (3497 views)
Tasted by sehill on 3/31/2012 & rated 91 points: Decanted and poured, this wine continues to show well. This has reached it maturity and is at or around its peak. This should continue to drink well over the next 3 to 4 years. (1995 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 1/27/2012: Not a great showing. Not much fruit here, alcohol sticking out. Some Chablis wooliness. Off bottle? (1841 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/21/2011 flawed bottle: Annual Summer Lunch with Friends (Hillsborough, CA): Slightly corked but what was underneath was very '06 in its rich, tropical fruit and low acidity. (2034 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 8/11/2011: Much better showing this time than over the last couple of years. I think this wine is drinking at a high point. More golden than clear on the palate. There is hazelnut and old wood, along with notes of butter cream and vanilla, but they are interesting and not over-bearing and one is reminded that it is Dauvissat after all, and for a village-level wine, it's quite good, even with the oak. On the second night, the oak really comes on strong. But, when I sip this wine along with some cheese, the oak is hardly noticeable. Maybe one needs to drink oaky Chablis with cheese for an enhanced experience. This isn't showing much in the way of tropical notes common in 2006 Chablis, although it is round and soft in mouthfeel and far less cut than I normally look for in Chablis. (1416 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 6/27/2011 & rated 91 points: classic chablis and going strong at this point. (1430 views)
Tasted by cavalpha on 4/5/2011 & rated 90 points: Awesome for a village Chablis. (1646 views)
Tasted by marckuipers on 1/27/2011 & rated 92 points: Prachtig licht heel, hangt in t glas. Mooie neus. Fris en fruit. Mooie volle aanzet. Dikke geconcentreerde wijn. Zomers vol fruit. Kan nog paar mooie jaren mee. (1514 views)
Tasted by yannhry on 12/18/2010 & rated 90 points: Très beau chablis, vif et frais mais non dénué de complexité. L'éléevage est déjà bein intégré et apporte du corps et du gras.
La longueur est déjà impressionnante. (1588 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 10/11/2010: Good showing. More cohesive than the last bottle, smooth and forward, rather '06 in its appeal right now, some old wood notes, with butter cream underneath. Good purity. Noticeable acidity and spice in the back palate. In a good place now. (1810 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 9/24/2010: A better showing than a bottle three months ago, but still, this wine needs time to come together. Right now, it's elements are disparate. There's a hint of a golden aura'ed, textured Dauvissat 1er greatness, but it's fleeting and then recedes. Very expressive on the palate, sometimes showing ginger, sometimes pineapple, so there's a bit of tropical element (very '06), and then later, with more air, a bit too much vanilla. Long, detailed finish. Like a kid with great potential, but a bit spastic in his youth. (1858 views)
Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 8/20/2010: 2010 Simple Wine Dinner Series No.7 - JT Farewell (Asia Grand @ Odeon Tower): Alcohol : 13%
Tasted blind. A soft gentle nose of floral, chalky mineral and smoky lemony note that is suggesting a Puligny but the palate which is telling this is a Chablis, perhaps a mid tier 1er cru Chablis that delivery complex and weighty flavor of gun flint, chalky mineral, creamy vanilla with spiciness which is clean and pure with gripping acidity that is quite fine with oyster shell, lemon peel bitterness and slight dry finish. Very good village which will only show it best with another 5yrs aged. I was shouting for oyster when I tasted it. Buy - Yes. (2710 views)
Tasted by Dbrane on 8/20/2010 & rated 90 points: Simple Series Dinner (Asia Grand, Singapore): Extremely light straw color. On the palate the minerals shorn through with the seashell taste in the foreground. Amazingly good for a village. Quite distinctly different from a Raveneau, which has more ripe fruits on the palate. This wasn't as piercingly acidic like a Fevre as well. (2695 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 8/20/2010 & rated 92 points: Simple Series VII: B.A.G (Burg, Alsace, German) - JT's farewell (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): Really, really good for a village. Very clearly Chablis just on the nose alone - I do not think anything else on the table guessed otherwise. Lots of saline bits, some oyster shell, clams, some chalkiness, all adding up to a beautiful, low-toned minerality. Beyond that, there was some cream, some white fruit, but it was really those deep sea-shell and mineral scents that really caught the attention. Palate had a real weightiness to it, with a beeswaxy, almost oily texture - quite astounding for a village I thought. Admittedly, like many 2006 Chablis, what was gained in weight was lost in terms of precision, cut and freshness. However, the wine was still very nicely balanced, and still had a clean, clear feel to it (one might even say it was fresh if it was a 2006 Puligny), with wafting, sea-breeze and seashell flavours, almost like strolling on a beach, to go along with ripe white fruit notes. There was some nice complexity developing here as well I thought, with the wine's minerally essence underpinning everything else. Finish was long, seamless and well integrated with the rest of the wines, showing pinpricks of spice, white fruit and more of that super minerality. I really liked this. (2839 views)
Tasted by Pknut on 7/8/2010: Didn't love it. There are traces of Dauvissat pedigree in here, but overall, this is rather lean and not giving much. I was actually looking for more volume . . . which is quite odd, considering the producer. I have a few of these and I'm going to cellar them away for a few years. Curiously, I've had my share of '06 Chablis, and it's not a vintage that, in general, I would age. But this one, I think, needs it. (2018 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 3/16/2010 & rated 89 points: Drank over three hours and it improved with air/time. A little darker color than your average young Chablis. Medium-bodied with citrus and minerality; also some of the oceanic notes. Well made and very enjoyable. Score hurt a bit because this lacked a little of the crispness usually found in Chablis. Should improve with a little bottle age. 89+ (2082 views)
Tasted by sehill on 3/19/2009 & rated 92 points: This wine was decanted and poured. It showed exceptionally well with a similar tasting impression as a bottle tasted in June of 2008. There is a lot of depth and complexity for a village level wine. The aromatics show citrus, mineral and sea shell notes. The color is a light yellow that is youthful and vibrant. The medium bodied palate demonstrates outstanding balance between the core of fruit and acidity. The acidity gives structure and becomes more present on the finish. Again, this wine improved with time in the decanter. This should improve with a couple more years of bottle age and drink well now over the next 3 - 5 years. (2256 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/6/2008: Casual Farmers' Market Dinner: As with the '05, perhaps a shade or two darker than one would expect this early. Pretty fat, honeyed, and inviting up front, but then tried hard to show a tighter side with sea shells and good minerality. A good village wine, but like other 2006's, rich and somewhat diffuse, lacking the acidic snap I so value in Chablis. (2669 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
