Tasted by oeno1820 on 3/8/2024 & rated 90 points: Fruit, almost light at first, then deep spice. (805 views)
Tasted by 1997cobalt on 9/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Plenty of Zin bite, with dark color and aroma of currants and blackberries. Seemed to be ready to drink now. (1233 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 9/4/2023 & rated 92 points: A nose of black cherry and spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Zin blend, with black raspberry, licorice and spice on long finish. www.winelx.com (1283 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 8/12/2023 & rated 93 points: Savory, with length and feathery, fine tannins. Black and red cherries, chocolate covered raspberries, granite, green tobacco and wild rosemary. A medium, elegant body. Similar to the lovely ‘18, with a surprisingly more tame side - as ‘20 was maligned with heat and fires, yet there are stunning wines to be found, and Carlisle made better wines in ‘20 than ‘15 or even ‘17. Solid today, with time this could potentially reveal more. Drink 2025 - 2033. (1445 views)
Tasted by kcp on 5/14/2023: First bottle - harsh tannins - muted fruit - consumed over 2 nights. Maybe it's just this bottle. Too early to drink? (1478 views)
Tasted by BobMilton on 5/12/2023 & rated 91 points: Typical Carlisle - good fruit, not jammy. (1135 views)

2020 Carlisle Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard

Compared to the last two vintages, 2021 and 2022, yields were relatively abundant in 2020 at 1.75 tons to the acre. In this very warm year, both blocks were picked at the same time on August 25th, the earliest ever. All the fruit was fully destemmed and cold soaked for five days before inoculating for fermentation. After18 days on the skins, the wine was pressed to all French oak, 25% new. Unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note: Medium ruby-garnet. Effusive, redolent aromas of red cherry, pepper, and bouquet garni. On the palate, medium to medium-full bodied with a cornucopia of savory red berry fruit. Fine-grained tannins emerge in the very long and very clean finish. A very elegant, sophisticated rendition of Zinfandel with the structure and balance to develop for many years. Enjoy this beauty from 2026 through 2036.

Bedrock Vineyard

The Bedrock Vineyard is American vineyard royalty, considered by many the most historically and qualitatively gilded plot of land in the Sonoma Valley. Planted to vitis vinifera originally in 1854 and financed by William Tecumseh Sherman (a banker before he was a general), the vineyard has seen American winemaking grow up around it. Over that time it has been planted and replanted, with over 30 different types of grape interspersed throughout the vineyard, much of it Zinfandel and Alicante Bouschet, but also Tempranillo, Mondeuse, Carignane and Mourvedre amongst others.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
