Tasted by Yack Man on 4/15/2024 & rated 94 points: 92-93 Points as a pop and pour, 93+ Points with air. Good stuff. (525 views)

Tasted by Yack Man on 12/20/2023 & rated 94 points: I'm so happy that I got in on this wine (questionable vintage because of the smoke taint issues), It's a really good wine. I won't hold/ cellar these Cab's too long and that is pretty much the case with most of these big, fruit driven Cabs for any vintage, they have an optimum timeframe drinking window. I'm so happy to have enough to get me from now through 2024. No smoke taint, no problem. (1085 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 11/18/2023 & rated 94 points: Fantastic wine for a vintage that was panned by many. A big, rich, full-bodied entry level Cab. Dark blue and blackberry fruits, dark currants a touch of tobacco, so good for those who like this style. As my memory serves me, the 2021 may have an edge, but not by much. 94 Points. (1273 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 9/9/2023 & rated 94 points: Fantastic wine, Mike Smith, you've outdone yourself! (1550 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 8/23/2023 & rated 94 points: What a delightful Cab, M'm! M'm! Good 94+/95 Points. (1557 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 6/20/2023 & rated 94 points: The 2020 NV is so damn good! The Calistoga rocks too. For the money, some of the best I have had from the '20 vintage (sadly, did not buy a lot as I was worried about smoke taint). No smoke taint on these. Deep and dark black and blue fruit, great balance, long finsh. (1574 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 6/5/2023 & rated 94 points: So good yet, completely overlooked by so many Cali Cab drinkers, too bad. 93/94 Points (1591 views)
Tasted by wineguy1968 on 5/10/2023: I had the 2019 last week and while it was good im finding the 2020 to be a bit more balanced. I was picking up pretty strong barrel oak in the 2019 that is not as present here. This is a young wine but more ready out of bottle imo (1260 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 4/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Youthful exuberance with a distinctive, bold and fruit forward profile reminiscent of the fantastic 2013 vintage 94+ Points. (1531 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 4/17/2023 & rated 94 points: I believe most of Mike’s 2020 entry level cabs are in somewhat of an awkward phase now and could use some time - a little closed and somewhat disjointed. Decanted for a couple hours but that wasn’t enough. However, they are showing quite well on day two. Dark ruby fruit - currants, dark cherry, blackberry, and dark raspberry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration. Nice rich flavors of cassis, baking spices/licorice, cocoa, and a little graphite component. Fairly long finish. I had a similar experience with the 2020 Myriad Napa cab a couple weeks ago. 94 rating on day two though. 100% cab. (1888 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 4/10/2023 & rated 94 points: Sadly, I did not buy a lot of this vintage from Napa. But Mike Smith killed it in 2020. (1366 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 4/1/2023: This one felt significantly less ready than the 2020 Becklyn Napa cab we had recently. Lots of vanilla and very sweet fruit, with prominent oak spice on the back end. I always find the Becklyn cab to be an earlier drinking wine, so am not surprised it’s more approachable at this stage than this Quivet. As such, I’m going to hold the rest of my Quivet and Myriad 2020s for a few years to let them evolve from this very primary stage. (1052 views)
Tasted by Franken Berry on 3/12/2023 & rated 94 points: Many thanks to the persistent praise and enthusiasm heaped upon this wine by BadMonkey and YackMan leading me to pickup a pair of the 2020 Napa cab. If I had tasted this blind, I would have guessed this to be a Lewis Cabernet. It is a rich, balanced, densely packed wine loaded with crème de cassis and blueberry liquor, as others have noted, with a long finish of licorice, tobacco and chocolate. Probably the most balanced version of this wine I have had, although I typically don’t open them this early. This should continue to drink well over the coming months, although I have no idea what the longer future holds here. (1463 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 2/27/2023 & rated 95 points: A wine that is simply amazing in its class. Good Stuff. (1567 views)
Tasted by ageverett on 2/9/2023 & rated 95 points: Pop and pour. Incredibly impressed with this wine. I gave my wife a glass blind (she has a better palate than me) and she said "Wow! What is that, a Schrader?"

High praise. But speaks to the deliciousness of this wine right out of the gate. Don't know they will get better with age, but doubt I will have the patience to find out! So good right now. (1712 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 1/16/2023 & rated 95 points: Drank this bottle over two days - quite enjoyable on day one but even better on day two. Really smooth (seamless from beginning to end) on the second day and nice depth/concentration. In addition, a nice dark raspberry profile which wasn’t as distinct on day one. Really nice vibrant/expressive flavors. Fairly long finish. Originally I went into this vintage really light in consideration of the smoke/fire concerns and other weather related issues for this vintage. Thankfully I didn’t shun this vintage completely and have been able to buy more. Probably my favorite vintage of Mike’s entry level cabs. 95 on day two. 100% cab. (2255 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 1/12/2023 & rated 95 points: Give this wine a splash decant and it's amazing for those of us who enjoy bold, big fruit Cabs. 94+ 95 Points. (posted under 2019 in error) (1770 views)
Tasted by kned on 12/23/2022 & rated 92 points: Two hour decant. I believe this could use some more bottle time all the elements of a great wine are here but a little disjointed right now. Very rich plush wine with tons of fruit will be interested to see how it balances out over time (1049 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 11/25/2022 & rated 94 points: Decided to drink it side by side with the 2020 Myriad Napa cab to see how they compare. Sounds crazy but I don’t see how this wine gets better. Dark ruby fruit - currants, blackberry, dark cherry, and blueberry. Really smooth with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration. Nice vibrant/expressive flavors of baking spices, cocoa, cassis, and a graphite component. Fairly long finish. Popped/poured but drank out of a decanter for a couple hours. Not much improvement with time but drinking well right away. I would give a slight edge to the Quivet. Both were great but the Quivet is at a slightly better drinking point. 100% cab. (2088 views)
Tasted by PghMike on 11/19/2022 & rated 86 points: Napa Valley - November 2022; 11/16/2022-11/19/2022 (Napa Valley): Tasted with Leah Smith at Tamber Bey. Felt like there was almost some residual sweetness with blueberry pie and chocolate notes. Definitely for those that like the bigger style of Napa cab but just wasn't my cup of tea. (1478 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 10/30/2022 & rated 94 points: My first estimation of this wine wasn't judged in fairness. l sampled a bottle that had been open for a couple of days and was rather uninspiring on the palate at that point. I was totally wrong, this wine is a beauty, extremely worthy. Drinking well above it's pay grade. Gorgeous dark berry fruits, black and blueberry, cream de cassis extraction blueberry liqueur, black licorice impressive intensity on the palate. This Napa Valley Cabernet packs a punch for a standard Napa Cab. If you like this style, l'd rate it a strong buy! 94+ Points. (1614 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 10/10/2022 & rated 92 points: This is a wine that I think will be very good, but it still in need of cellaring. Great color dark medium purple and somewhat translucent with a nice nose. Palate wise good right now, dark berries, currant and plum notes with modest extraction. I find it a little thin and showing pretty youthful on the palate yet it's promising. Typically, the Quivet Cabs hit you smack in the face, immediately with big ripe fruits, extraction, ready to go but this vintage wine will need some maturing time. It will be interesting to see where this wine is at in a few months, the components are in place but showing a thin right now. I think this wine take a path similar to the 2018 Scarlett which started out in the same way but improved markedly with some cellar time. I'm pretty confident this bottling will pick up some weight given time. 91+/ 92 Points. (1756 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 10/8/2022 & rated 94 points: My first 2020 Napa cab. Curious in light of the concerns with this vintage and decided to pop a bottle. In addition, the Winery recently said this wine is ready to go. Dark red and black fruit - dark cherry, currants, and blackberry. Smooth mid-palate with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration - it picked-up quite a bit of weight during the day. Nice rich/vibrant flavors of spice box/licorice, cassis, and a little graphite component. Fairly long finish. Slow ox during the day for around eight hours and drank out of a decanter for a couple more. Improved with time but drinking well after the slow ox despite its youth. Tasted upon opening and it came across a little tannic/acidic and light - with time it improved quite a bit as it opened-up and added weight. Reminds me quite a bit of the 2017 vintage which is somewhat ironic with so many individuals also swearing off that vintage. Thank goodness I didn’t listen to all the gloom and doomers about this vintage. I wish I could buy cases of this wine. 93/94 at this youthful stage. 100% cab. (2096 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
