Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by talbot61 on 2/13/2024: It took four days for this to reach a state of drinkability. Even then it had a ferrously bloody intensity that will take more time to abate. For the first three days, everybody who tasted the wine had a wincing, pained expression, and glasses were quickly set aside. (397 views)
Tasted by leachriscellar on 8/19/2023 & rated 93 points: My guess is it will develop even more in 2-3 years. Just lovely. (434 views)
Tasted by ben7210 on 7/29/2023 & rated 91 points: Deep ruby. Pepper, blueberries, sage, earth on the nose. On the palate mefium acidity high tannin full body. Chocolate, black cherries, cinnamon. Very good wine, young but drinking well and likely to improve. (391 views)
Tasted by OnTheVine.blog on 5/4/2023: Opaque ruby. Dark, intense, brambly fruit on the nose and a hint of something herbal as well. More of the same in the palate. Tannins tamed with a little air. As with others, this is my first encounter with Mondeuse, but I have two examples from France to try next. This is a delicious and well crafted wine that could stand in for a California Zinfandel at table. (462 views)
Tasted by S-F on 3/13/2023 & rated 93 points: Have very little experience with this Savoie grape, if I'm honest. This might actually be my first pure expression. What a lovely encounter! Dark as the night, earth and fruit on nose. Slightly underripe lingonberry from my youth and black stuff, with he fine tannins of a wine of hundreds and hundreds of bucks. So elegant, but can still go fo years. I can't help but get Syrah vibes from this grape, maybe with a 30% note of Blaufränkisch or some other Austrian variety. Wow, just wonderful wine. So happy I got this as part of BD! (693 views)

Lagier Meredith

Producer website

"Syrah is our flagship wine. We’ve grown it since we began in 1994. Our vineyard site, with shallow rocky soil derived from an ancient uplifted seafloor and bathed in cool marine air from the nearby San Pablo Bay, brings out the best of Syrah’s savory, spicy, and floral attributes. Our wines are balanced, complex and long-lived. They reflect the restraint imposed on the vines by our mountain setting."

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
