Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.6 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by corkscrews on 3/6/2015 & rated 89 points: A nose of dark fruits and spices, dark purple in color. A medium to full bodied red, with blackberry, plum, cola and licorice with long spiced finish, still a big wine. www.winelx.com (1078 views)
Tasted by AMeatWithVino on 9/27/2010 & rated 88 points: My second go at this wine. Pretty much what I remembered from the last tasting - nice old-world, old-school Aussie Shiraz. The nose was nothing special… blueberry, earth and leather aromas and on the palette – some chocolate and peppery notes. A solid wine but never really doing anything to set it apart from other shiraz aside form the style. IMO... it won't get better with more time in the bottle - drink now (2941 views)
Tasted by AMeatWithVino on 4/12/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice old-school style shiraz as opposed to some of the fruit bombs I've had from down under. Would buy again. (2696 views)
Tasted by acintheoc on 3/22/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice blueberry flavor. (2705 views)
Tasted by ljl203 on 8/18/2009 & rated 89 points: Really intense fruit and acid attack. But softened with nice components of brine and leather. I like it less as the bottles go by - but that's personal preference. (2242 views)
Tasted by pgb67 on 2/1/2009 & rated 91 points: One of the most old-world style Oz shiraz I've had, showing restraint, elegance and superb aromatics. The nose offers smoke, brambles, earth and black fruits. Palate was reminiscent of some of my favorite Napa syrah, showing dark chocolate, leather, raspberry. Medium weight (which is a good thing to me) and long finish. It was probably better at open, as it evolved into a more peppery, sappy wine over time. (1630 views)
Tasted by noofie2 on 1/24/2009 & rated 91 points: Excellent shiraz. Very dry, great acidity, well balanced with fruit and tannin. Complex w/long finish. A classy great tastng wine to drink with a favorite meal at a first class restaurant. Veal scallopini comes to mind as I drink this. This has got to be one of the best bottles of shiraz I've ever tasted. I hear the 2006 is even better. (1680 views)
Tasted by ljl203 on 1/18/2009 & rated 90 points: Sweet nose. Deep purple color. Pifcho nails it: chocolate and olive palette. Clipped finish. (1660 views)
Tasted by singletrack on 1/17/2009 & rated 93 points: dark chocolate, leather, raspberry, outstanding. (1645 views)
Tasted by kwalitsch on 12/17/2008 & rated 84 points: Nose:Oak, rose, fake fruit.
Palate: Oak, Blueberries, strawberry powdered sugar. Nice length, but very fake and over extracted. (1736 views)
Tasted by Gordon-in-Walnut-Creek on 12/5/2008 & rated 90 points: Alcoholic upon first opening, blew off a bit. Very complex for the price. Lovely dark fruit, long finish. I'm waiting 1-2 years to have again. (1743 views)
Tasted by pifcho on 5/23/2008 & rated 90 points: I like this relative to some of the other Australian shiraz I have had recently. Still in your face, big, fruity and alcoholic (which I don't usually enjoy), but has a nice balance of flavors including some olive and dark chocolate that make it very interesting. Smooth tannins and very low acidity (not a very food friendly wine). Medium + finish. This is good on its own and will go well with desert... Good value. Still has 3-5 years ahead of it, but it's drinking very well right now straight out of the bottle. (1888 views)
Tasted by sstitt on 3/27/2008 & rated 90 points: Pop n pour;alcohol nose;Very fruit forward with blackberry and plum as most observed with a very mineral and slightly rough finish. Day 1 88. Day 2 this wine was much better. Characteristics of blueberry cream pie with some plum notes and milk chocolate. The mineral notes and rough finish were minimalistic and raised this wine a couple points. Day 2 90. I'd buy more but decant longer or cellar. (2099 views)
Tasted by tudval on 3/25/2008 & rated 89 points: Very nice shiraz. Immediatelly rewarding upon opening the bottle. Great balance. After a few hours it became very peppery, maybe a bit too much for me. (1989 views)
Tasted by ljl203 on 2/28/2008 & rated 91 points: Deep blue purple color. Delicious fruit bomb: plums, bananas, and peaches with a mint lime finish. Simple but effective. Faded on day 2. (2056 views)
Tasted by Canadian Chris on 1/15/2008 & rated 89 points: pop and pour:

on the nose: dusty old cedar, dark cherry preserve and old cinnamon sticks. with a couple of swirls i get some added leathery raspberry, and less of the dust.
colour: dark, inky purple, long legs
in the mouth: velvety mouthfeel, medium body. Immediately I get a minerality that I wasn't expecting. well water + black cherry, medium dark/milk chocolate and some red candy licorice. nice finish with the minerality carrying through, black cherry, richer, milkier chocolate, and some cinnamon sticks action. definitely some heat here in the back of my throat, but it's reasonable, marginally distracting.

after an hour in the decanter: Mouthfeel is silkier. Along with the original notes, strawberry is showing up on the nose, along with some garbage. For some reason, not so much of the minerality up front, lots of fruit. Still a well balanced package, decent finish. Still a bit of heat that bugs me at the tail end. (2394 views)
Tasted by michelvl on 1/14/2007 & rated 92 points: This is brilliance for its price. a sweet nose of cherry, plum and spice.Clean with wonderful texture and full-bodied. if you can get it get it fast before the secret gets out. will drink well for another 8 years. (2376 views)
Tasted by Mic Mac on 6/15/2006: Dark Red with purple hues at the edge. Subdued nose of mulberries and violets, with a touch of charcoal suggesting oak prominence. Oak is not overt on the palate with nice forward berry/mulberry fruit. Not overly sweet or extracted. Tannin definitely in the background. Medium length finish. Made to be consumed in the next year or so. Very Good. (2424 views)
