Showing excellent balance of fruit, earth, acidity, and very fine tannins. Expressive on the nose and outstanding length on the finish. This wine is definitely hitting its stride. (3195 views) | | Tasted by brianofthevine on 3/6/2011 & rated 89 points: Red/black cherry with subtle chocolate. Kind of muted fruit, decent finish. (1478 views) | | Tasted by Brian Love on 2/18/2010: don't have the best tasting palate in the world, but I do concur that it was overpoweringly tart. I fought hard, over 2 nights, to try to find any fruit and it was fleeting. It's in there somewhere, and it does poke its head out at the start of a sip, but it's mostly covered up right now. I will stick my other 2 bottles away, but I don't have much faith it will do anything. The 2006 by contrast did have a nice fruit forward character. (3434 views) | | Tasted by cns on 7/19/2009 & rated 90 points: Massive wine. Needs a few more years. I love the wine, but the oak is a bit too much. W/o the extra oak, I would have felt this to be a 92 pt. wine. Afraid that the oak will continue to dominate and the fruit will fade as this wine ages. Time will tell. (3129 views) | | Tasted by jivey on 5/20/2009: Huge everythin, tart, acidic high alcohol just counld drink it. (3019 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 4/23/2009 & rated 91 points: Napa Valley with Altitude Trade Tasting (Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain wines) (Officers' Club, Fort Mason, San Francisco): Tart black fruit, herbal and mineral nose; tasty, tart black fruit, tar, graphite and mineral palate; medium-plus finish 91+ pts. (4307 views) | | Tasted by KeithAkers on 3/30/2009 & rated 92 points: Expedition Wines American Homegrown: nose: lovely nose that is elegant and pure with rich tones of red cherries, red currants, cranberries and bits of chocolate tones
taste: wonderful rich and balanced flavors of red cherries, red currants, cranberries, bits of cedar and herbs. Excellent medium+ tannins and medium/full feel that has a real nice elegant touch to it
overall: a lovely cabernet with great balance and polish. Not a wine that will blow you away at first go, this has a real sumptuous side to it that makes it deliciously attractive and should be a real beauty in 5 or so years (3550 views) |

| Coho Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Diamond MountainDiamond Mountain AVA: definition |
