| Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 2 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by billapex on 11/3/2009 & rated 92 points: On the nose, acidic lychee, citrus, and petroleum (in a good way). On the palate, well-integrated oak and a touch of butter. A touch of alcohol on the back end (14.7%), but not unpleasant. Paired very well with a spicy-rub pork loin chop and porcini risotto. (2069 views) | | Tasted by sayward on 5/7/2009 & rated 90 points: The wine was bought at auction for $10 a bottle and given the initial sniff test, I am thrilled. Diluted citrus and butter on the nose. Some flint. The color is what I would call average for a Chardonnay. Oak on the palate. A fair amount of substance to it. I wouldn't say that the wine is over-oaked, but I can imagine that 6 years ago, this wine had more edge to it. I tend to like my Chardonnay aged, and if it can't hold its age it isn't likely worth drinking. My guess is that the muted edge appeals to me, but with more of an edge 6 years ago, I would not have liked it as much. (1938 views) |

| Paul Hobbs Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
