Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 1 note) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by JohnSh on 3/23/2008 & rated 92 points: Wow, what an interesting wine! Drank over two nights. The nose was a hypothetical combination of sauvingnon blanc and riesling - there was a cat pee/weedy note on the nose, but also lime, honey, rosewater and cumquats. The palate didn't have the funky element, but it had a rich texture, a wonderful balance between the sweet fruit and acidity, with honey, lime, tobacco and lychee notes. Almost tastes like a blend of gewurtz and riesling on the palate. On the second day, this had lost a little acid, and tasted richer than the previous night. On both nights, really fun, unusual stuff, and a joy to try (A-). Wish I had bought more! (1701 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
