Community Tasting Notes (average 91.7 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 205 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by MJReb on 12/24/2023 & rated 93 points: A fresh yellow greenish color and the wine is like that, less advanced compared to the perfect last one: Iodine, sea breeze, citrus, nearly a youngster. Excellent, unfortunately my last one. (489 views)
Tasted by zscheiner on 12/16/2023: Stinky at first, barnyard, took about 30 minutes to blow off. But it did blow off, leaving sea spray and ginger. Perfectly composed in the mouth, with mouth-coating weight and body but still plenty of acidity. Flavors are citrus and ginger, dry and very long. Worth tha wait and I’ll probably open my last bottle in the next couple of years. (423 views)
Tasted by Rgentile on 11/3/2023 & rated 94 points: This was beautiful. I don't know that Chablis could be better. It was mature but fresh. Lemon, brine and caramel. Over time brighter tropical fruits emerged. At its peak and delish! (572 views)
Tasted by wineton.mee on 10/20/2023 & rated 93 points: This bottle was showing way more expressive than my previous of the same vintage. Drinking well at its peak, notes of caramel, honey, lemon tart, apples, really precise and saline on the palate. Classic Chablis at its very best. (685 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 10/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Clean yellow color, iodine on the nose and in the mouth, pure with lemon and a high chalky dry extract. Some oily stuff (just a little), which will increase on time, I think. Excellent! (621 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 7/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Light yellow color with green reflections, some light oxidation (?) notes, which disappear in the glass, lots of lemon and iodine stuff, saline, high dry extract, mouthcoating and very long. (597 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 4/22/2023 & rated 95 points: Mid-light yellow color. Reductive at first but opens up with some air. Crisp acids. Lemon and salt open to jasmine flowers. Unmistakably Chablis. Fantastic wine. (711 views)
Tasted by llink on 3/21/2023 flawed bottle: Krishna's bottle. Dark yellow, advanced nose, thin and lifeless palate. Sad. (731 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 11/20/2022 & rated 94 points: The bouquet is still not very expressive, but is elegant and shows some white fruits like apples as well as some flint stone. Same on the palate, fresh white fruits and mild acidity. Beautiful wine with still a long future ahead. (1250 views)
Tasted by jkoenen on 11/20/2022 & rated 95 points: Still very fresh and primary. (1058 views)
Tasted by Cellar rat1 on 10/10/2022 flawed bottle: Oxidised (1145 views)
Tasted by Greg Pierce on 6/29/2022 flawed bottle: Oxidized. (1343 views)
Tasted by NickNYC on 6/19/2022 & rated 91 points: very enjoyable. nose is evolving with time in the glass. Core minerality, yellow fruits, cheese notes (croute de fromage). the balance of the palate is great, medium body, refreshing. not see this getting better. no hurry though (1231 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 3/21/2022 & rated 93 points: Just a week after the last bottle, which was quite advanced, this one is pristine and simply perfect: light yellow color with green reflections, sea breeze on the nose, lemon curd and saline iodine stuff on the palate, mouthcoating and very long, excellent. (1293 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 3/12/2022 & rated 92 points: Deep yellow color, ripe and fully blossomed, truffle notes, fully agree with DRWINE that this wine cannot come from another place than Chablis. Much more advanced compared to the bottle drank some months ago. (1205 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/11/2022: Decanted for 3 hours. Luminous deep yellow with an orange tinge. Musky algal scents joined by truffle later. Medium weight, again strong flavors of vegetal matter with back end lemon and a strong core of acidity and chalk. Fully mature wine that could only have originated in Chablis. I would not tempt fate by holding it much longer. Last bottle of a wine that has provided great pleasure for over a decade. (1563 views)
Tasted by llink on 2/24/2022 & rated 90 points: PNP. Nose is very Chablis with a lemon and iodine profile. Crisp and acidic lemon infused palate, fairly taut and linear for the vintage. Lean finish with some chalky dry extract. (1094 views)
Tasted by gukarl on 2/20/2022 & rated 90 points: Litt atypisk nese med innlag av karamell og noe smørmalt. Flott og stram i munnen. (1078 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 1/8/2022 & rated 93 points: Yellow hay color, needed some minutes to unfold in the glass: more apple than pear, citrus, iodine and lots of salty mineral elements. Long aftertaste. Excellent! (1103 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/17/2021 & rated 94 points: Monthly Tasting Group: Chardonnay (Oceanaire, Mpls, MN): Pale green color. Drank a glass over 2 hours. Same bottle as Chablis28. This was absolutely rocking tonight. Agree with everything Craig said. That Dauvissat magic was on full display here. Wow is this intense and penetrating, Grand Cru power and depth, oyster shell minerality, lemon, earthy and wet almost like sweet silage, Meyer lemon blossoms, deeply layered, shellfish, brine, just wow. Loved it. (1696 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 10/17/2021 & rated 94 points: With 7 wine buddies at Oceanaire Minneapolis and our favorite waiter Jessica on hand made for a lovely low key Sunday evening. This started out a bit tight since I didn't have the luxury of opening it at home and I had a bit of extra chill on for the 35 minute drive and earlier champagnes. Drank from a slightly smaller Riedel Montrachet knock off. Healthy bright light gold & pristine costal, mineral & citrus aromas. The Dauvissat magic really kicks in on the palate with best of class balance, sappy concentration and a perfect accord between drive & elegance. A great array of apple, lime, orange zest, pear, faint herbs and a fine bead of minerality. 13% alc. One left that I'll likely drink in the next 3-5yrs. (1567 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 9/10/2021 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. It needed about twenty minutes to come together. Fully mature but still energetic. Lemon rind, lime, crushed rocks, white flowers come through as the wine has lip smacking acidity. This is a delicious premier cru but clearly lack the depth and complexity of a grand cru. (1286 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/17/2021: Poured straight out of the bottle into a decanter and agitated vigorously. Deep yellow with some orange. All bouillon and algal tones at first-like strolling through a tide pool. Then more lemon, and finally, after 2 hours, honey and truffle. Similarly savory, vegetal palate with medium weight, outstanding feel and cling, excellent acidity and limestone. Superb maturing Chablis that would have been easy to write off as oxidized if one had not given it time. I wish we could have opened and decanted it earlier to give it a chance to show its very best, but it is squarely at its apogee. (1958 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/6/2021: Decanted 2 hours beforehand. Dull medium yellow. Musky aquatic aromas, herbs, and hay. Medium weight with great texture, cling, and cut. Underripe lemon, stone, and unbelievable salinity-literally like taking a lick of a salt block at the end. Its lineage from grape juice is pretty hard to fathom. Over the past couple of years, my bottles have gone back and forth like a metronome, good alternating with not so good or worse. This one was probably the most classic and thrilling of the bunch so far. A fantastic bottle of La Forest and everything you could hope for from well aged Chablis. It should evolve toward even more steely essence of Chablis over the next 5 years. (2280 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 12/12/2020 & rated 92 points: As often with older Dauvissat wines, the nose was on matchstick aromas, with aeration sea breeze and citrus elements come up, stony with the typical La Forest soil elements. Still very youthful, not a crime to open, but there is more to come with the years. Very good! (1617 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
