Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by RED AND BLACK on 9/16/2023 & rated 91 points: This is still in a good place, and in my view has 5 yrs easy to go. Heavy this became with age, but balanced and the 13.5% alc is in balance. Not the greatest of aged white burgundy, but still a very pleasant and unique experience! (326 views)
Tasted by JulianSkeels on 9/2/2023 & rated 92 points: Old fashioned oaky Meursault. Good bottles provide plenty of tertiary without the oxidation. Oak dominates with lots of pear, honey and white flowers. Palate dominated by the toasted wood and butter texture. Very ripe and the acid isn’t very high (although sharpness suggests it should be). Some prominent alcohol. Recent bottles have been the best and I would drink now to 2025, recorked bottles aren’t holding well. Works well with simple fish and white meat dishes. 92pts (533 views)
Tasted by ddi on 8/13/2023 & rated 89 points: Liked the elegancy brought by an aged white. Unfortunately this bottle was already off its peak and the fruitiness was almost all gone. Drink immediately if you still have some in your cellar. (407 views)
Tasted by Oddbod on 4/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Back on song after a maderised bottle. Honey, Acacia, peony tea, peach stone, flint, wet wool. Mid weight, rich, but with brilliant, balancing acidity. A reminder what fully mature white burgundy is like at its very best. Life-affirming, joyful wine. A delight to drink at a fair price. (617 views)
Tasted by Oddbod on 4/4/2023 & rated 91 points: Out of a six bottle case. The first one was singing. Still remarkably fresh, with delicious mature white burgundy character. Probably a 93. This bottle is definitely more oxidised, dark in colour, maderised nose. However, the freshness saves it. Curd, quince jelly, almond, lemon meringue, struck flint and baked apple. On the palate, mid weight, fresh, long and structured. Still great, just getting a bit tired. (538 views)
Tasted by 67366 on 1/18/2023 & rated 89 points: Simpler than I was expecting. 5 more bottles, will try again and also check how it is on day 2. (411 views)
Tasted by Ghoulardi on 3/27/2022: Shockingly, this was way better on night 2. Wonderfully integrated white & green fruit and oak. (884 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 1/23/2022: Very nice. Dinner party with Tim and Mary (909 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 1/16/2022 & rated 91 points: Very pleasurable again. Not a hint of premox, and unbelievable QPR. Notes of white flower and pear, with good structure, layers and medium length. (775 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 12/19/2021: Outstanding! Shared at dinner party with Carol/Tad (828 views)
Tasted by MWOM on 11/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Drinking very well (November 2021), and I see no reason to hurry through my remaining bottles. The wine gave me great pleasure, also in its second day open. Excellent, 91. (876 views)
Tasted by Warren23 on 10/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Fantastic QPR, without a hint of premox. Medium long finish, with notes of tree fruit, toasty oak, vanilla and anise. 91.5 (635 views)
Tasted by vagrantone on 8/10/2021 & rated 92 points: Textbook Meursault.
Great salinity, butter and textural richness.
Still fresh with great acidity; few signs of any aging.
Excellent length and complexity (692 views)
Tasted by danielk168 on 3/1/2021 & rated 90 points: tasted blind, chardonnay for sure but where? At lower temperature, it was rather closed and almost thought as north as Chablis but as it warms up, became more oily and rounded, nuts and cream too, so back to the south. Guessed Montrachet 1st cru, well, close enough! (980 views)
Tasted by Roundedge on 6/20/2020 & rated 92 points: Still wonderful, a delight. Drink up the next 2 years (1168 views)
Tasted by Roundedge on 4/18/2020 & rated 95 points: Decanted for close to two hours. Opened very nicely. Wonderful wine. Ready now and for 2 more years. (1183 views)
 Tasted by S-C-S on 4/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Amazing (2057 views)
 Tasted by S-C-S on 3/27/2018 & rated 93 points: Awesome (1943 views)
Tasted by S-C-S on 8/8/2017 & rated 89 points: Over the peak :-( (2108 views)
Tasted by bsweetnam on 4/4/2017 flawed bottle: While the bottle wasn't corked, it was well past it's prime. I'm a fan of Meursault and this wine in particular, but this bottle did not taste like the Latour Meursaults I've had in the past. (2166 views)
Tasted by S-C-S on 8/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Drink now (2445 views)
Tasted by Tony Molester on 3/21/2011: Mince, austere, rien de memorable...meh. (3992 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 4/22/2010: Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival (Vancouver Convention Centre [West]): Great Acid, Balance Green Apples (3920 views)
Tasted by hutch on 3/30/2010 & rated 87 points: This is ok, but not really showing at the level I'd hope for. Kind of simple. (3500 views)

2018 vintage: "marked by a wet spring, a superb summer and a good harvest"
2019 vintage reports
2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage."

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
