Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by hsacks on 9/18/2022 & rated 96 points: This was truly “lightening in a bottle” wine. It was much more complex and textured than 5/30/09 bottle. Incredibly fresh and long on the palate for a 23 year old white Burgundy. After one hour, it was even more outstanding than when first opened! One of the best white wines I have had in the last 20 years! A true triumph of winemaking. (463 views)
Tasted by asparagus on 5/6/2021 & rated 96 points: My WoTN and not because I brought it. This was a pristine bottle. Lemon curd, some green apple and white flowers, this unfurled and improved throughout the course of the night. Lovely finish and good acid. Such a lovely wine, such a lovely winemaker. (1078 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 5/15/2020 & rated 95 points: This is indeed great - the wine has improved a lot since I had my first bottle - we are happy to increase the rating to 95 - this wine is mature and showing it - we get a lot of apricots, ripe apple and citrus - clearly also hasselnuts - this time we do not get so much of the tropical fruits - medium acidity - the wine has a great balance - and is giving you also a beautiful long aftertaste. And indeed great wine that is drinking very well at the moment. This is my last bottle but I do not think I would keep this wine much longer than 1-2 years. (1535 views)
Tasted by BradE on 8/4/2016: Served with the 02. Both were great. The 99 was a bigger wine, but in the end the 02 sexiness won out. (2219 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 11/16/2015 & rated 91 points: 91 pts from my perspective, frankly others were raving about it and may have been at the 93 pts +/- level, this was youthful with no signs of premox, acid levels were good but i found it a bit dis-jointed, almost heavy, was looking for that bright / tense, mouthwatering experience and it wasn't there, perhaps it is the vineyard, this was my first batard, good but not great (2319 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 6/25/2015 & rated 92 points: Quite plush with white and yellow stone fruits and soft wood notes. This bottle came off as surprisingly young and still had at least five good years ahead of it. (2193 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 2/4/2015 & rated 96 points: Very rich and explosive nose, hint of smoke, ripe apple, pierre à fusil, nutty… very powerful taste, citrus , yellow apple, laser sharp acidity and citrus, very long (2420 views)
Tasted by bpj87 on 4/30/2014: A dense, almost fat wine. Still a baby. Relatively precise with good floral aromatics. Needed a serious decant before giving up much. (2268 views)
Tasted by ILarsen on 1/3/2014 & rated 93 points: great wine - golden - honey - buttery - lots of tropical fruit - very good balance - great long aftertaste (1685 views)
Tasted by admid on 8/16/2012 & rated 93 points: Ap: Golden yellow
Ar: Nuts, cress, wax, tropicical fruits and vanilla
Full bodied with great structure and balance.
Very good length (2377 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/8/2011: At a great place, probably right around its peak when well stored. Floral nose that also shows ripe peach. Lush fruit still shows that fat character you expect from good Batard. Rich, powerful finish. I have a few more in my cellar, and will plan to finish them in the next 3-5 years. (2193 views)
Tasted by BigRed1000 on 3/8/2010 flawed bottle: DOA (2399 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 5/30/2009 & rated 93 points: Light yellow color. Beautiful aromas of candle wax, lemon oil, banana, acacia flowers and vanilla custard. Rich, finely structured fruit in the mouth with great balance, depth and length. Not as oily in texture as some other Batards I have had but that may evolve over time as this wine is not yet at its peak. (2021 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
