Tasted by RichEB1 on 12/18/2016 & rated 90 points: Turned out to be a really nice bottle of wine. Started off a little funky with a very bitter finish that I really didn't enjoy very much, but by the 2nd night (recorked and left on counter), it was much, much better. Muddy red with quite a bit of bricking. Sweet cherries on the nose, but more savory on the palate with some red fruit, but plenty of leather and earth notes. Most importantly, the intense bitterness on the finish was completely gone. Thought this was a lost cause the first night but was pleasantly surprised on day 2. Maybe this has more staying power than I expected?? (2100 views)

Tasted by Harddriv on 6/17/2015 & rated 95 points: Great subtlety and balance. Glad I have another bottle left! (2765 views)
Tasted by rcurlee on 1/2/2012 & rated 84 points: This definitely tastes past its prime. There is some fruit left, but the must and earth has taken over. I think it would have been better as a young and fresh wine. It doesn't have much of a nose left and the finish is short and leaves me with the desire for something... more. (4418 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 9/23/2011 & rated 90 points: This ATP bottling was wonderful. Great aromatics on the nose, rich, smooth, great mouth feel, but still with a nice streak of acidity that keeps everything in harmony! A little of the Old Vine "sweetness" clearly noticeable, long finish. Great varietal presence. The back label says drink by 06-08, but it's holding up very well indeed. I find most Ridge aging "estimates" to be very conservative, and this one is no exception. (4537 views)
Tasted by Samadhi on 4/18/2011 & rated 90 points: Delicious carignane. Strong cherry and currant flavors. (So cherry-y!) The smokiness paired well with rotisserie chicken. (3360 views)
Tasted by Samadhi on 3/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Tasted in vertical with the 2003. This 2002 is holding up much better with plenty of structure to hold up the dark fruit on the palate. (3196 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 10/5/2010 & rated 88 points: Aromas of leather and smoke. Flavors of smoky dark fruits. Maybe some bacon. Drink now. (3298 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/9/2010 & rated 90 points: Ridge Wine Bloggers Tasting: ATP Rhone Varietals (Ridge Tasting Room, Monte Bello Vineyard, Cupertino, California): Slightly bricking plum red color with pale meniscus; earthy, dried berry, tart raspberry, sandalwood, smoke and green herb nose; tasty, tart berry, wild berry, mineral, baked berry palate with a touch of green herb; medium-plus finish 90+ pts. (2610 views)
Tasted by yhn on 7/9/2010 & rated 89 points: Nose - spicy, light brown sugar, mature, balsam, black plum, Hansen's cola, touches of nutmeg and cardamon.
Soft black plum, touch of raspberry jam, dried herbs, lemon zest, grippy tannin. (1983 views)
Tasted by eleanor on 11/6/2009 & rated 89 points: lovely for such an older bottle of an varietal not typically judged age-worthy. the acidity provided backbone, but enough fruit to engage. aging deepened the complexity. (2482 views)
Tasted by jwwinec on 1/1/2007 & rated 87 points: Very soft and restrained. Nice carignane flavors. The fruit is charming now; I would be surprised if it lasted much longer. (2879 views)
Tasted by Colima74 on 9/2/2006 & rated 89 points: more like an 89+. LC opened to serve with beef soup. Restrained and both elegant and rustic at the same time. I thought it was old world, and it does have that profile. Gained complexity after being opened about an hour. A very nice off-beat wine. (2888 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
