Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by RayOB on 3/11/2024 & rated 94 points: Drank in London
A wonderful expression of Chenin. What can I say but get some. (87 views)
Tasted by David Meddings on 2/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Medium yellow. Last of my stash of these. Pretty much as per prior notes but this was fading. Note to self Palladius can make 10 years in good storage but not much longer...solid 92 though. (1476 views)
Tasted by Cigar nuke on 2/24/2018 & rated 92 points: Bloody good. (1783 views)
Tasted by esh44 on 12/16/2017: I wasn't sure if this was slightly oxidized upon opening. Some savory butterscotch notes and slightly golden color. Was a bit heavy and hot the first day, sort of like a clumsy viognier. Kept it in the refrigerator and on day three, it was a different wine. Still a touch of viscous butterscotch, but loads of minerals and floral and citrus notes. Enjoyable and surprisingly a crowd pleaser with a few casual wine drinking friends. (1744 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 12/4/2017 flawed bottle: Opened 2
One badly oxidized, the other perfect. Same case, etc. (1834 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 12/4/2017 & rated 96 points: One bottle badly oxidized, this one consistent with previous great bottles. When on, this is peerless. (1871 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 5/10/2017 & rated 95 points: A great bottle; I think at this point close to half are oxidized but this was a nice light straw color (tell tale sign that it's a good one)- this wine has a lot going on. Lime and apricot, honeysuckle, and a little butterscotch; mouthwatering acidity and salty minerality- this is full bodied with excellent viscosity too- a unique wine- not sure what to compare it too... with fried chicken (perfect pairing), corn on the cob, and Asian influenced bok choy...(we've gone through nearly 2 cases of thus). (1274 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 8/21/2016 & rated 97 points: Aging gracefully and in this case glacially... Consistent withe previous great bottles... Mouthwatering acidity, dense mid palate, gooseberries, melon and citrus notes, ultra long finish... Outstanding. (1409 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 4/13/2016 & rated 96 points: One of the best bottles- see good note. A complete wine; fruit, gooseberries, melon, stone fruit, minerality (limestone/sea shells), viscosity, excellent acidity and a finish that lasts a minute... When this is on it's exquisite. Well stored it'll get better for 5-7 years... (1585 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 1/19/2016 & rated 95 points: Back to back awesome bottles... Fabulous mouthwatering, persistent citrus acidity, honeysuckle, stone fruit, acacia flowers, deep mid palate- this kind of tastes like an extraordinary white hermitage but better... (1670 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 8/17/2015 & rated 90 points: this particular bottle headed down the slope toward oxidation - darker yellow good fruit and acidity but taking on some nutty sherried notes that are the tell tale signs. At or near the tipping point but still very drinkable with fried chicken, mash, and cole slaw- perfect pairing for this wine... (1860 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 5/7/2015 & rated 96 points: Better than previous bottle only because the crisp acidity lacking in the previous bottle is so apparent in this one- wow... Otherwise, the last note works here as well... With the ultra long mouthwatering finish....honey suckle, acacia, lime, grapefruit, stone fruit and a certain minerality- full bodied, unctuous texture, long finish- Blend of Chenin Blanc (it's South African after all), Viognier, Marsanne, Roussane and some grapes I've never heard of- not sure of percentage). Still young and aging very nicely. Very reminiscent of the 2011 and 2012 we had this past summer in South Africa- world class wine. (1762 views)
Tasted by jonnyoro on 10/3/2014 & rated 93 points: Not sure what grape varieties were in the mix here but when opened the wine was a nice mix of honey suckle, acacia, lime, stone fruit and a certain minerality- full bodied, unctuous texture, long finish- lacking a bit in the acidity department, the wine came together as it opened up in the glass and lost its refrigerator chill. Blend of Chenin Blanc (it's South African after all), Viognier, Marsanne, Roussane and some grapes I've never heard of- not sure of percentage). Still young and aging very nicely. Very reminiscent of the 2011 and 2012 we had this past summer in South Africa- world class wine. (1674 views)
Tasted by Cigar nuke on 4/20/2014 & rated 91 points: - Yellow color and aromas of melon and peach. It's balanced and has flavours of diacetyl (butter) and honey with a medium body. Flabby texture with a long finish. (1824 views)
Tasted by Lana.A on 12/26/2013: Bright golden yellow, nose of orange blossom and melon silky texture with nice acidity. Quite lovely. (1795 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 12/21/2012 & rated 90 points: Golden yellow. Musky lanolin aromas draped over honey kissed melon fruit flavors. There is just a hint of an oxidative note on the finish that will encourage me to drink my remaining bottle sooner rather than later. A unique wine that would be interesting to put as a ringer in a blind tasting. (2445 views)
Tasted by tirmi on 4/24/2012 & rated 88 points: Хорошее вино. Очень хороший цвет. Свежее, богатое. Но нет изюминки. Лично для меня не дотягивает до отличного вина (2476 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 12/1/2008: Baum's South African tasting (Avenue Grille, Denver): A rich blend of Chenin, Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay, this wine has a light gold colour and a nose of orange rind, peach, citrus and grapefruit. Medium bodied, there is considerable complexity here, and this IS very young... but at the same time, the Sequillo, for about half the price is the better value here. Approx $65, 14.5% abv. This should drink well for a decade. (3855 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 10/16/2008 & rated 92 points: Caroline Wine Shop - White Blends (Carolines Wine Shop): (Tasted Blind) Light lemon straw colour. A combination of floral and volatile aromas that intermingle with noted wood, acetone, smoke and classic ammoniac flavours of wood-aged white wine. A musky intensity peeks out (Muscat?) alongside white peach and tropical elements of pineapple, all suggesting a versatile blend.
It has a soft yet lifted entry on the palate with lots of complexity, rich texture and some phenolic grip - apple flavours join the fray. It is a smart wine exhibiting breadth and a lot of elements at play. Impressive wine with a long lingering finish. Concrete egge shapes, 3.8 g/L RS, 5.7 g/l TA; 45% Chenin, 20% Grenache, 15% Clairette Blanche, wooded, 12 months on lees—basket press. (87 views)
