Tasted by burg_gram_Jason on 12/17/2023 & rated 95 points: In a great place right now. Red fruited, very expressive 30 min after opening, it’s fully open and juicy. Hay smoked and skin-side binchotan seared Katsuo and aburi kama-toro at Sushi Noz 12/15 were taken to the next level, washed down with this gibourg ech. (415 views)
Tasted by rlove on 1/22/2022 & rated 94 points: Ethereal. Mugneret-Gibourg's 2007 Echezeaux unfurls from the glass with a beautiful nose of wild strawberry, Vosne spice, and sous bois. Regal, elegantly textured palate with sweet red fruit and bright acidity. So little sense of weight, the fruit just floats on your palate and you can barely differentiate between the wine and post finish. Excellent. (1208 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 11/15/2021 & rated 94 points: Strawberry, spice, and underbrush. Palate is expressive and feminine with alluring sweetness. If has wonderful stuffing and persistence. The 07 Mugneret Gibourg is consistently excellent. It will drink well for many years to come. 93-94 (1332 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 1/1/2021 & rated 93 points: 1/6, good cork.
Pale/medium ruby/garnet core, wide pale garnet rim. Lovely aromatic nose, quite dark fruited with floral notes and a hint of spice. Medium bodied, pure dark fruit, very fine tannins, quite youthful with fresh acidity and a very good length finish. Excellent. (1503 views)
Tasted by jkuanl on 10/24/2020: Open bouquet of red and dark fruits, spice, hints of rose. Lovely balance and fine texture in the palate. Adolescent and has more to go (1449 views)
Tasted by rlove on 3/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Ruby. Initially a whiff of animale that had me worried about Brett but with time the 2007 Echezeaux developed perfumed aromas of ripe strawberry, white pepper, and sous bois. Elegant, a wine of finesse, with soft, silky tannins and fresh acidity. Persistent finish. Killer today but with the stuffing to drink well through 2030+. (1580 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 5/24/2019: Served this to a friend who is a serious Burgundy collector, and asked him to guess the vintage. He was adamant it tasted like ‘09. If I hadn’t known what it was I probably would have gone there too. This is a ripe ‘07, very well balanced with soft tannin and sweet fruit.

The aromatics are special, rose petals and Vosne spice, pure and deep. A wine to contemplate and enjoy now, and I would imagine for at least the next 5 years in this lovely phase.

Bravo Mugneret-Gibourg, I can’t recall a better performance in this vintage. (1314 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 4/18/2019 & rated 93 points: Still young. Very sexy on the nose with strawberry, intense spice, herbs, a bowl of mineral-infused blue and dark fruit. Palate was rich and powerful with lots of spicy red berries but it slowly oozed its elegance and transperency in the glass. Will be very difficult to call this an 07 if it was served blind. Gibourg nailed this vintage. (1442 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 2/22/2019: Served blind. Sexy sexy aroma. Wow. Served toward end of the tasting wish I had more time, but certainly this is one of the better 07's I've had and is drinking very well now. (939 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 4/21/2018 & rated 96 points: Ethereal. Spun burgundy silk. Pure burg nose and flavors with nice maturing secondary overtones. $228 at CDC. (1328 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 3/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Silky and floral power, intense and sophisticated, with balance and grace. Lovely. (1334 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 12/29/2017 & rated 95 points: John Gilman and rocknroller wrote excellent reviews of this wine that really capture how good it is right now. The wine is still youthful, showing power, intensity and complexity, gorgeous minerality and red fruits. This is delicious right now, no reason to wait! (1222 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 2/9/2017 & rated 96 points: A Quite Remarkable Night (Spoon & Stable, Mpls, MN): Medium dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour plus. Holy testicles Batman, this thing is rocking. Whether it is the combination of 2007's drinking sublimely right now, Echezeaux itself, or the Mugneret-Gibourg sisters working their magic, this was spectacular. Wow from the start, florals, bright, deep and intense on the nose and palate, pretty red fruits, red cherry, impeccably balanced and elegant, featherweight but with that impressive energy and concentration; impressive length and lovely tannins. Ready for prime time and will probably go for 20 years plus. (1985 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 2/9/2017 & rated 93 points: Same btl as R&Rler. I likely made a cardinal mistake by reusing my white Burg Montrachet style glass for this and didn't give it the best chance to shine. For me, it drank youngish with velvety elegance, richness, balance and full of promise. Its youthfully excellent but didn't turn my head, at this point. I should have had it in a true red burg glass. A very very nice btl amongst several rock stars tonight. Wish I owned some myself to drink again in a few years. 93+ (1974 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 1/18/2017 & rated 95 points: During a Confrerie 2007 BYO tasting dinner, so just short impressions. No surprise on the overall vintage performance, the 2007 are mostly light and harmless compared to better vintages. TN: Nose of red fruit with spices, deeply floral, was the favorite red wine for many. soft palate. Very good performance for the vintage. (1769 views)
Tasted by Burgundy63 on 3/29/2015 & rated 93 points: Getting there but could still do with just a little longer in bottle (2174 views)
Tasted by Fabio79 on 1/7/2012 & rated 93 points: My first GC Mugneret-Gibourg, a domaine that has never disappointed so far. The sisters seem to know what they are doing. Very smooth and nice complexity. Drinking very well now as a youngster. 93+ (4031 views)
Tasted by yogester on 2/4/2009 & rated 94 points: cask sample at en primeur. very concentrated and a deep purity of fruit - red cherry. lovely long and clean. earthy, rocky undertones. could be excellent. echezeaux was the grand cru of the tastings across the board. maturity 2015+ (3970 views)
Tasted by nskelsey on 1/9/2009 & rated 93 points: Medium colour; restrained nose; good concentration, pure flavours, good sense of terroir. Lovely. Estimated maturity: 2017+ (3659 views)

Burgundy-Report (4/1/2009)
(Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Echézeaux) A deeper nose than the villages, but also showing less width and intensity. Super flavour - tannin with a faint grain and a super length. Super.

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
