Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by BryAG on 12/31/2009 & rated 90 points: Eyes – Out of the bottle, this wine displays a beautifully rich dark purplish garnet hue. It shows good clarity with medium opacity.

Nose – Rich concentrated fruit with notes of cherries, vanilla and dates. Exhibits hints of charred oak. A touch of heat is peeking through as well. To tone this down, serve it a bit cooler, probably around 17-18 degrees Celsius.

Mouth – Fruit forward with youth and vigor poised on a frame of spiced oak. Black cherries and chocolate notes here as well... reminds us slightly of chocolate covered cherries! Good tannins remind the drinker that this wine has some oomph and backbone, which makes it appropriate for some potential cellar time. Not quite a true fruit bomb, but is one in training.  Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/21/2009: A little bti more acid on this than the shiraz. Savory notes from the cabernet, meaty notes from the shiraz. Touch of stalks on the cabernet. (1950 views)
Tasted by HMSWTF on 3/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Very good bottle. Great fruit taste with no aftertaste. Not smooth, but didn't need to be. (2041 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/20/2009: Shows that padathaway character to it. Nice blue fruits too. Works at $15. Toni says the Cabernet adds some structure. (1992 views)

Cabernet-Shiraz Blend

A very popular blend in Australia-particularly from South Australia, where the two varietals work well together. The most famous of these would be the Penfolds Bin 389, considered Australia's most cellared wine. In years gone by this was referred to as "Baby Grange" as some of the wine used barrels from the vintage of Grange.

The 2018 Paternus states only McLaren Vale Shiraz (no Cab Sav).
