Tasted by Dar3 on 3/31/2023 & rated 92 points: Great wine, drinking well. (514 views)
Tasted by capscapscaps on 5/31/2020 & rated 92 points: A great but not amazing wine, if that makes sense. Another winner from Lancaster but it’s not my favorite vintage from them - a bit over-oaked in my view. Crowd pleaser - my wife and mom both loved it. I liked but not loved it. Big, bold, deeply structured. Still quite a bit of fruit, so could actually go a few years longer. Blackberry, a bit of blueberry, lots of vanilla, some tobacco and leather. Well balanced, long finish. Good qpr at $38-40. Decant it for sure - this opened up a lot after 2 hours. (1641 views)
Tasted by jdawg on 11/24/2019 & rated 92 points: A great go to wine. Opens up over time. Decanted for two hours. Big and bold but drinks smoothly. Probably has another 3 years before peak. (1748 views)
Tasted by Alfaro on 9/8/2017 & rated 92 points: PnP, initially very subdued and restrained, drank over 4 hours and in which time it opened up significantly to reveal a beautiful wine! (3276 views)
Tasted by SchlaepDog on 8/7/2017 & rated 90 points: From a 1.5L. Nice inviting nose of red fruits, the wine took a couple hours to open up after being very tight initially from POP. Red cherry and cranberry fruit with subtle oak spice, did not get the chocolate that other tasters have noted. Tannins did subside with air, but this big bottle format needed more time, like 5-10 years to show its best. Pulled the cork a bit too soon, but very tasty wine nonetheless. (3254 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 3/12/2017 & rated 90 points: Perfumed aromatics on the nose. On the palate, medium to medium-heavy in body. On the palate, "resolved" as another recent reviewer suggested. In a somewhat primary way - still pretty linear from front to back. Tasty, if not terribly complex. (3482 views)
Tasted by saxwizerd45 on 10/22/2016 & rated 91 points: This wine is fully resolved at this point. Nose of deep, dark fruit and chocolate. Palate is dark fruits, dried herbs, and that leather character you start to get with aged Cabernet. Tannins have mostly melted away, but you still have just a hint of that dark chocolate dryness through the medium plus finish. (3445 views)
Tasted by agirlandherglass on 1/9/2016 & rated 89 points: Deep ruby color and medium plus aromas of menthol, pork fat, with black fruits filling the background, black berry black cherry. On the palate medium plus bodied, with the concentrated black fruits following from the nose, tannins are fine grained and holding. (4239 views)
Tasted by rwerner on 11/27/2015 & rated 93 points: Coffee & chocolate through the mouth and finish with soft tannins. (3107 views)
Tasted by BHathaway on 3/7/2015 & rated 93 points: Outstanding well aged cabernet from Lancaster. Decanted for a couple hours. Nose was both fruity and floral. Mellow tannins, with beautiful finish. Tasted like cherries and tobacco with a sweet after taste. (3876 views)
Tasted by Burner on 12/14/2014 & rated 89 points: A good time to drink this win (3888 views)
Tasted by ToniTony on 12/7/2014 & rated 90 points: Very well-structured and consistent; bouquet and taste are fruity and delicious. (3383 views)
Tasted by agirlandherglass on 12/5/2014 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby rich blackberry on the nose, earthy and hint of mint on the nose. Blackberry follow thru on the palate with vanilla & cassis spicy, rounded tannin with a good finish (2441 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 8/30/2014 & rated 93 points: Brought to our wino group's regular wine dinner which also featured a 2001 Ch. St. Jean Cinq Cepages, 2009 Rol Valentin St. Emilion, and 2010 Altvs Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Lancaster was double-decanted 90 minutes prior to departure and opened for consumption 60 minutes later (we started with the startlingly youthful and powerful Cinq Cepages). A very dark violet ruby glass-staining robe, the beguiling nose features a deep well of blackberry liqueur, black currant, cassis, vanillin, spicy oak and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied on the palate, with excellent intensity and concentration, and a long 30+ second finish.

Our friends all drink very good red wines, and they were very impressed with this Alexander Valley Cabernet that we don't bring to tastings very often (we're Guild Club members). I think this was the favorite on the night. This vintage spent 22 months in new French oak and consists of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 2% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Not inexpensive, but the opportunity to share with our friends like this makes it all worthwhile! (2670 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 5/10/2014: In a good place right now, with respectable structure and balance. Nothing overtly interesting about this, but it is a good food wine, with just enough CA influence to keep the cocktail wine people happy, too. The components show purity and good sense of place and grape; maturing nicely, but not sure I see much upside from here. Fine grained tannins and fresh acids win the day. Should easily hold another 3-5 years, 14,5% abv.

Slow-O 1 hour (should have been decanted for an hour, but not my bottle), served non-blind. (3200 views)
Tasted by Rosdail on 2/28/2014 & rated 93 points: Just awesome, juicy, firm, tannic excellence (2420 views)
Tasted by mdmerle on 12/29/2013 & rated 89 points: From Maui cellar (2683 views)
Tasted by VAD on 3/5/2013 & rated 91 points: Very Nice Cab. Drinking well right now (4233 views)
Tasted by cyc on 1/30/2013 & rated 90 points: Not aging as well as I would have hoped (4005 views)
Tasted by peeno on 1/27/2013 & rated 78 points: Pretty weak cab. Not complex. Better for cooking. (3306 views)
Tasted by mliszt on 1/14/2013 & rated 94 points: reallly ready and better by far than the last one i recently drank. very nice bottle (3364 views)
Tasted by mliszt on 1/2/2013 & rated 92 points: while I admit to being an easy rater, this bottle is not a 77. perhaps our fellow note leaver had a flawed bottle. I too would cook only with a 77 or even a low 80. i like smooth balanced, no after taste. i have never tasted a "fruit" etc so the language of wine is foreign to me, but my tongue does have an opinion. to me this was typical lancaster. I'm not buying lancaster any more as i have found others i prefer in the same price range, but all in all this is still a good bottle of wine (3104 views)
Tasted by peeno on 12/22/2012 & rated 77 points: Very average cab. Glad I didn't pay full price. On clearance for $30 and didn't match up to some good Washington cabs for significantly less. Thin, some fruit, no finish. Drinkable but nothing to look forward to. Might use the other bottle for cooking. (2002 views)
Tasted by svpandae on 9/27/2012 & rated 91 points: Really nice wine, with strong fruit and balanced tanin. Drinks well, even without food. Drink now or soon. Not for the long haul. (2641 views)
Tasted by Jharvey on 5/27/2012 & rated 92 points: Opening up nicely on my second glass, steaks were almost done when I opened... Much more earthy than most CA cabs with a full mouthed warm, smooth finish. Not much experience with Bordeaux wines, but if this is what they're all about I'll be adding some to my cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
