Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by DawgByte on 4/3/2020 & rated 96 points: This is a quintessential’07 Napa Cab. The nose has the same type intensity of high quality Hermitage Rhône Syrah that leaps out of the glass and hits you with complexity and vibrancy.

The nose is brimming with deep dark black cherries, saddle leather, cranberry compote, blackberries and a hint of green herbs. On the palate I get the same level of complexity of flavors combined with a nice structure built for a great grilled steak. The finish is smoky with nice mouth gripping tannins.

This wine has plenty of leg room for aging, but is drinking extremely well right now. (528 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 4/1/2017 & rated 88 points: Nice rich fruit, medium tannins and balanced acidity. This is a rich a delicious wine drinking well in 2017. A nice $50 Napa cab. (1043 views)
Tasted by ddingley on 9/20/2014 & rated 90 points: Nice Napa cab. Less oak than most, more of a restrained effort. (1675 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 11/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Good but a little thin and slightly acidic, even with broiled rack of lamb (1839 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 4/21/2012 & rated 92 points: Very good wine, especially for $50. Big, bold ripe, and full bodied but not an overpowering cab. Not too hot. Very sizable and very nice with hearty food (lamb, salty cheese). A nice example of 07 napa cab for the money. Yum! (2656 views)
Tasted by wm3395 on 1/8/2011 & rated 94 points: Too early to tell but the wine has a lot going for it. This is an excellent value. It is fantastic at this point in its maturation. Can't wait to open one next year. This one could be great. (2954 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/23/2010 & rated 92 points: 2010 Family Winemakers Tasting San Francisco; 8/22/2010-8/23/2010 (Fort Mason Festival Pavillon, San Francisco, California): Big berry, baked berry, plum nose; berry, baked berry, plum palate; medium-plus finish (4628 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 6/7/2009: Just bottled this past week so note that as a reference. Liqueur-like nose, exotic, rich and up front fruit and then, bam, the tannins clamp down. I liked this wine a whole lot but the softening on the wine will take some time. (2638 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
