Tasted by Jammy Wine on 9/12/2020 & rated 91 points: 90s Leflaive wines are simply irresistible. This 1998 Bienvenues Batard Montrachet has the combination of tertiary nuances and reductive struckmatch scent. Bottle from a recent purchase from Tour d’Argent (hence the scruffy label). Tasted blind - Reductive yet old. Glossy nectarine, hints of honey and roasted nuts. Beautifuly nose with a chewy texture on the palate. Delicious. Drink now – 2032. Puligny Montrachet Les Pucelles 1997? Leflaive? (91/100) This was voted joint White WOTN along with the 2013 PYCM Chevalier Montrachet on Survey Monkey. (1687 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 9/4/2020 & rated 94 points: Visually this was the most developed in the flight and I quickly pinned this to late 90s and thought 97. It is a wine in a perfect drinking spot - lovely reduction, very good intensity and some caramel and yellow fruits on the satin finish. Very very good. (1360 views)
Tasted by Jammy Wine on 10/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Tasted blind – The old Leflave reductive characteristic is transparent and expressive. Fully mature nose of ripe orchard fruits, some reduction left despite its maturity (hinting Leflaive), buttery toast, savoury nuts and touch of manuka honey. Full bodied, warm vintage (1999/ 1998), slight reduction (hinting Leflaive). Full bodied with Grand Cru Puligny characteristics, though not as vibrant or complex as the Chevalier or Batard. Leflaive? Bienvenues Batard Montrachet? 1998? (90-91/100) (1597 views)
Tasted by Life At Your Leisure 🍷 on 5/5/2015 & rated 94 points: Bright yellow gold color with a reflective edge. The nose gives off floral scents of jasmine, sunflower and sharp citrus fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky texture; slight butter; bright acidity. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit, limestone, stem, and vanilla are intensely present. Very feminine, delicate but persistent - definitely not a pushover. Finishes long with a hint of spice. The longer it stays in the glass, flavors of smoke begin to emerge. This is a fantastic wine! Drink now. 94 (2873 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 1/8/2014 & rated 93 points: 1997 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): Once again, I found this very good without being great, especially when served next to an absolutely overperforming 1998 Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet on the same flight. the nose was classic Leflaive, and we did not need a little peek of yellow foil on the top the blinded bottle for us to guess this correctly. It had drifts of gunflint and slate, ripe red apples and some stone fruit, with fragrant side-notes of flowers and toasted vanilla and smoked hazelnuts. Nice. The palate had a rich ripeness on the attack - red apples at the fore once more, with sweet lemons chasing behind - but there was also a nice purity to it, with gentle acidity and good structure lending the fruit a sense of focus and balance. I thought it was maybe missing some oomph, but this was a wine of great elegance and finesse with a gentle depth to it. It quiet length on the finish as well, with a little twist of spice nestling amongst some sweet white fruit. Maybe a tad better than the last bottle I had, but still not the most exciting Leflaive, especially given the quality of the plot. It is drinking nicely though. (5547 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 12/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Wine Bash of the Year 2012 (Jade Palace, Forum Galleria): Very good - this was drinking very nicely on the night. I loved the nose here, with its lovely scents of honey and caramel, apple and pear, with a nice floral back-lift and minerally wafts of gunflint and seashell. The palate was not quite as strong as the nose promised perhaps, but still very nice, with gently sweet notes of apples and lemons layered with a touch of honey and a bit of sweet oak. Nicely integrated, decently balanced and focused, with a tremendous bit of acidity ending in a quietly lengthy finish of gentle minerality and lemony notes - this classy wine was a real pleasure to drink, even if I did think it lacked a bit of x-factor to make it a truly great wine. Very nice stuff though, and great with food as well. (4506 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/12/2012 & rated 88 points: Farewell to a Great Restaurant (Charlie Trotter's - Chicago IL): Rich stone fruit aromas with spice. Same fruit profile on palate but quite mature, more advanced than I'd have expected from Leflaive 1998 Grand Cru, but that is characteristic of the vintage at this age. (4984 views)
Tasted by MatthewF on 6/12/2012: Farewell Dinner (Charlie Trotter's, Chicago IL): Ordered off Trotter's wine list by one of the guests. A lot of mineral on the nose intermixed with lemon and lime. Good structure with nice acidity and balance. Showing maturity. (4750 views)
Tasted by tooch on 4/16/2012 & rated 91 points: Dinner at Nia (Nia - West Loop, Chicago): Big nose of gunflint, dense lemon, sea air, white florals and vanilla. At first, the palate seemed a bit advanced, but surprisingly it seemed to freshen up a bit with air. Very complex wine with layers of pears, apples, lemons and floral notes. The finish lingered and had medium acidity. Wish I had more of these. (2894 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 4/14/2012 & rated 92 points: A welcome dinner (Nia, Chicago IL): nose: balanced and deep nose with classy tones of warm oils, creme brulee, white fruits, and creams. Shows off Grand Cru depth on the nose with good mature tones as well.

taste: Full bodied, but lacking a slight bit on the mid and finish. Good medium acidity with classy tones of oils, creme brulee, white fruits, honeycomb and some paine grille too.

overall: this was lacking a bit on the palate. Had the class one would expect and showing itself at what is likely it's peak. (2270 views)
Tasted by profiler54 on 12/23/2009 & rated 97 points: Medium dark yellow citrus color. Aromas of vanilla, lily flower, ripe lemon, wild honey, roasted
hazelnut, and flinty minerals. This wine possesses amazing extract, balance and complexity The finish lingers in your mouth for moments. A memorable experience. (2146 views)

Tasted by jamiekutch on 7/16/2005 & rated 90 points: Leaving NYC and moving to San Francisco; 7/16/2005-7/17/2005: Light yellow. When I saw this label I thought I was in for a big treat. I was slightly dissapointed with it. The nose started off with a dose of sulfer. With some air time that blew off and we had a nice clean acid driven Chard. with some rich ripe mid palate fruit. The finish dropped off though quickly especially compared to the Kistler. Certainly the more food friendly of the two. (4574 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
