(1951 views) | | Tasted by Avid Wino on 10/4/2013 & rated 93 points: Dusty, parched bush with some dried herbs. Mulberry and currants. Slippery smooth through the middle, fine tannins on the finish, nicely balanced, with impressive length. Exactly how I want a Margaret River cabernet merlot to be. Huge bargain. (1788 views) | | Tasted by Bernard Shen on 9/1/2013 & rated 80 points: Very oaky. Fruit comes through well, rounded tannins, a bit high acid. (2042 views) | | Tasted by chatters on 4/7/2010: Margaret River quick stop tasting tour; 4/6/2010-4/7/2010 (Margaret River): fruit and tannins again, tight acidity, short finish, great value at AUD 23 (3171 views) | | Tasted by Alex H on 9/21/2009 & rated 76 points: Australia Wine Trip; 9/20/2009-9/21/2009 (Margaret River): Just bottled for a week. The smells of new fresh oak barrels show. Lots of cool blueberry fruits. Might get better with time. (3429 views) |
| Woodlands Producer Website
Woodlands is a ten hectare vineyard located in the Willyabrup region of Margaret River in Western Australia.
Established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, Woodlands remains family owned and operated. Woodlands came to fame early on with the release of our 1981 ‘Andrew' Cabernet Sauvignon which took out several major awards.
However, in 1992 Woodlands production virtually ceased while David and Heather focused on raising their children and fruit was sold to other high profile producers in the region.
In 1999, children grown, Woodlands began to produce wines again, making the most of its fully mature vines.
Woodlands now has an annual production of 8000 cases, specializing in red wine, and is family operated. David's son Stuart has been the winemaker at Woodlands since 2002.
Winemaking is minimalist at Woodlands, the emphasis being on small open ferments and excellent barrel selection.Red Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.Australia Wine Australia (Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation) | Australian Wines (Wikipedia)Western Australia Wine Regions of Western AustraliaMargaret Riverhttps://margaretriver.wine/ |
