Tasted by essenceofreal on 1/3/2024 & rated 92 points: Well made but TOO MUCH HEAT! Damn napa wines. Felt like I was slapped in the face by alcohol. Welcome to California over exaggerated adulterated nonsense. Felt the harsh bite on the finish again and again with each sip. Pepper, lots of astringent harsh alcoholic pepper! Wait, intense fresh ground black pepper in a cab? Meh.This isn't syrah. That and the heat from excessive alcohol (from a well aged cab!) massively detracted from the experience, as usual. Idiots. This has been manipulated in the wine making.

Decanted 2 hours, got better after 3 and probably needs 5 hours. The last glass was silky but again the heat kept creeping in. Otherwise would have a much higher score. Has so much potential, what a shame they ruined a potentially excellent wine.

I have another bottle and will decant 5-6 hours with hopes it will mellow out. (1039 views)

Tasted by Peech on 9/30/2023 & rated 95 points: drank about 1 hour and 45 minutes after decanting. This was soooo beautiful and lovely, showing such elegance! Lovely cool fruit, a little peppery, smoky, and minty. Drinking very, very well at the moment. (987 views)
Tasted by Abanker on 9/26/2023: Excellent (1009 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 4/8/2023 & rated 95 points: Graphite tinged Eisele wine that makes you wonder where this is from. New world for sure, but the graphite is confusing. Then the big red fruit and juju starts poking out, possibly hinting to something from old vines California. I dont think this is going to get better...Drink (1899 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 11/27/2022 & rated 95 points: Three hour decant, the nose and palate are very left bank bordeaux, with more nuance and complexity than your standard big Cali cab. The finish here is very, very long and very enjoyable which has developed over the twenty years this has spent aging. This still comes across as young in spite of its age, with plenty of fruit in the lead and equal dollops of acidity and and tannins in play. (1528 views)
Tasted by Mostholy on 11/27/2022 & rated 96 points: Extremely nice wine. The nose is complex but balanced. A nice bouquet that I could spend all night with my nose in the glass. The palette is the same scenario. Well balanced with a little bit of tannins at the end. I can see this still getting better in the next couple years. (1229 views)
Tasted by vindaddy on 7/14/2022 & rated 97 points: Showed very well in a recent tasting. Still huge with a lot of life left. Seemed to get bigger as the night progressed. Big fruit, long in the mouth. Tannins a little strong on the back end, but I believe the fruit will hold up fine. 97 (1912 views)
Tasted by apg23 on 5/26/2022 & rated 94 points: Wonderful California Cab. Tasted alongside 2008 Abreu. This wine was not as big. Better finish and wonderful nose. It is well balanced, medium body. Great wine. (1727 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 1/14/2022: big fruit, massive, ChefD found it 'impenetrable' but it mighta been the score whore's WOTN (2531 views)
Tasted by parkline_wine on 12/14/2021 & rated 96 points: Beautiful wine!

Nice youthful color. Tobacco nose that reminded me of a rustic Pauillac.

Red fruits and good acidity were the highlights of the mouth, with soft but still present tannins that carried this wine to a great medium + finish. (2267 views)
Tasted by JJB007 on 8/22/2021 & rated 96 points: was perfect for this vintage (2795 views)
Tasted by Peech on 6/30/2021 & rated 91 points: decanted for 2 hours and still rather closed. Tannins were pretty strong, with good concentration on palate. prominent woodsy notes. (2323 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 6/13/2021: Second Sunday Group: 1995 Beaune (Eagle Brook CC): Dark youthful color, would never have guessed this is nearing 20 years old. Cassis, chocolate, currant and tobacco. Tannins are soft but still present. Full-bodied and impeccably balanced. Long finish. Gorgeous. (G&L) (2598 views)
Tasted by ocwineo on 5/15/2021 & rated 94 points: Tried this wine with other similarly priced 2002’s and it was a standout as well as the vintage compared to 2003 and 2004. tabbacco notes on the nose that promises that you are about to taste a wonderful wine-ripe berries complex with a long finish-impeccable balance (2133 views)
Tasted by JJB007 on 5/12/2021 & rated 95 points: I am drinking a verical of these; this is an excellent wine, but the 2002 is off the charts (2189 views)
 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 4/4/2021 & rated 94 points: 1 hour decant. (1913 views)
Tasted by pigdaddy on 3/12/2021 & rated 93 points: decanted one hour. continues to deliver upper tier satisfaction bolstered by the deeper, riper expression of the '02 vintage; suave & long. 94 on aromatics after 2 hours in the decanter.

when a fat steak is on the menu, this is a great pairing.

grilled prime ribeye; roasted little red creamer potatoes; little gem & treviso salad w/grilled broccoli & shiitakes, parmesan ranch

6/18/22 decanted one hour. mature & delicious, intense & long. drink/hold (94)

dry-aged prime strip au poivre; garlicky rose gold potatoes w/butter & chives (1792 views)
Tasted by Gregmonroe on 11/6/2020: Friday Wine Group - GA (Blind Lunch): Dark ruby in the glass, very little sediment. Nose of fresh red fruit - cherries. Ever so slight bricking, but appeared fresh. Deep red fruit on the palate, but with a strong, but integrated, tannic backbone. Tasted fresh, and likely has years to go. I called a CA mountain cab. (2081 views)
Tasted by 89grange on 6/21/2020 & rated 96 points: Great bottle...! And ready now (2169 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 5/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Surprised how youthful this was out of the bottle. Definitely needed 30-45 minutes to open up. Very nice, notes of maturity coming through... fruit is still quite vibrant, structure is very much in tact. I don’t see this getting better than this, seems to be in its prime for sure. (2147 views)
Tasted by pigdaddy on 5/9/2020 & rated 94 points: decanted one hour. superb tonight, both aromatically & on the palate; terrific equilibrium given the heat wave late that year; in plateau, a treat now & forward.

grilled bone-in prime strip w/roquefort-miso butter, grilled asparagus, 2x baked potato (1927 views)
Tasted by Kevnzworld on 2/7/2020 & rated 94 points: :30 decant. Dinner at Verse
Good not great. For me it began to fade at the end , two hours in. A good dinner wine but it lacked a little in depth and concentration (2402 views)
Tasted by MLR on 3/13/2019 & rated 94 points: What a nice wine. Some glycerin on the nose. Rather sterile. In the mouth this wine really shines. Dark and dusty. Soft tannins and some tobacco and graphite. The fruit is dark and toasted. (3443 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 2/19/2019 & rated 97 points: 4th Annual PNV Kick-off Lunch, great group of friends and vintners (Juan/Jamie/Tor/Bart)... (Farmstead, St. Helena, CA): From magnum, brought by Bart A, generous contribution of a spectacular wine...I was late to the party, the bottle had been open a little while by the time I arrived.

Rich ruby red color, mild separation. Nose showing black raspberry, savory notes, brown sugar and vanilla. Elegant palate showing dark and blue fruits, cassis, licorice. This has settled into a really beautiful spot: aromatic, expressive, elegant...age has done this well.

A real treat to drink this with the vintner. This will likely last for a while (especially in magnum), but I would say this may be at its best over the next 3-5 years. Amazing stuff... (2959 views)

(Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon) Violet-garnet color. An attack of hot-stone minerality is quickly followed by aromas of eucalyptus, black cherry, black plum, and a touch of leather and old wood. The wine has an incredible presence on the palate, with juicy acidity, well-integrated tannins, and a lengthy finish. Terroir: Eisele Vineyard

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
