| Community Tasting Notes (average 93.5 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 83 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by cos65 on 2/2/2021: Bright yellow gold, crystal clear Bright white peach and pear nose, no tropical notes appreciated in this bottle Big mouthfilling glass of wine with bright pear and a slight butter rum note in the finish. Quite impressive and delicious. On the big and heavy side, but avoids any clumsiness through nice balance. Neither elegant nor restrained, but quite tasty. By this bottle, I’d say drink now, though safe to hold (1337 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 2/7/2020 & rated 96 points: Our last bottle, anniversary vintage, purchased on release via a friend's order as we had not yet been elevated from the wait list. Judging on appearance alone, one would think this was only a couple of years old as its is still a very pale yellow color. Tropical bouquet of banana, coconut, pear, fig and vanilla. Rich and layered. Pear, apple, coconut and citrus flavors with a subtle stone/dusty limestone sort of thing. Long finish. Impressive. (1721 views) | | Tasted by LoganMcDougal on 7/16/2018 & rated 89 points: Still very drinkable; buttery (2508 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 5/21/2018 & rated 95 points: Served a bit above cellar temp with Osteria Langhe's plin (frozen) and fresh morels, and this made for a really nice match. Notes of tropical fruit, apple and lemon with a nice floral element underneath. Rich texture, with flavors of apple, lemon, mineral and softened oak tones. Lengthy finish. In a really nice place right now, though should easily hold for a few years, perhaps maybe improve too. (2578 views) | | Tasted by AllRed on 2/25/2018 & rated 95 points: From magnum. Bright yellow color with aromas of apple, fig and beeswax. Plenty of fruit on the palate with well-integrated oak. Long and balanced across the palate. Lingering finish. Rich; layered. Fantastic. No rush in this format. 95-96 pts. (2602 views) | | Tasted by jsmorris707 on 2/24/2018 & rated 94 points: PNP by wife last night (she needed a glass of chardonnay while I was out) then recorked & in the fridge overnight, deep gold, white flowers & pineapple; delicious, drink or hold (1599 views) | | Tasted by vinojones on 9/30/2017 & rated 91 points: Med Yellow: huge nose of vanilla, coconut, and other smoky barrel notes; this is a frisky puppy lickng-your -face wine even at 11 yrs. Cate pointed out that compared to the 2005 Niellon Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées Clos de la Truffière there was a distinct haziness to this wine, the CM literally sparkled. Flavors of ripe pineapple, vanilla and other tropical fruits, with the emphasis on fruits. Body is very full, not over done by fruit but not restrained relative to food, think a spicy shrimp kabob. Finish is extremely ( >60 sec) long but does not suggest refinement, rather concentration. Think fries with ketchup vs. pommes frites with truffle butter. If I had more of it would be a great bar wine at a party. (1693 views) | | Tasted by M DU VIN on 8/5/2016 & rated 93 points: In magnum. Tropical fruit in the nose and on the palate. (1976 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 6/16/2016 & rated 94 points: Rich, delicious, full-bodied citrus fruit with sweet, oaky flavors, long finish, after 1-2 hours wine tasted a little fat and flabby, bottle age was noted (1949 views) | | Tasted by MJTed on 2/14/2016 & rated 88 points: On the downside. Primary fruit has receded and oak somewhat dominates the secondary notes. (2204 views) | | Tasted by Mark H. LeQuire on 1/31/2016 & rated 97 points: No flaws. Golden yellow cloudy color as if unfiltered. No sediment. Moderate rim variation. Beautiful white bordeaux nose. Low tannin and acid. Medium alcohol. Long finish. Paired perfectly with chestnut soup. Ready to drink. (2119 views) | | Tasted by ScottPreston on 4/26/2015 & rated 95 points: This is drinking absolutely perfect. Textbook, like a great montrachet (2575 views) | | Tasted by Vinfauv on 3/6/2015 flawed bottle: Macerized (1758 views) | | Tasted by SteelerFan on 1/19/2015 & rated 96 points: Outstanding. The best Cali chard I ever have had. Decanted and poured; a bit cloudy but quickly cleared in the glass. Rich and deep fruit, perfectly integrated. Golden color. Great. (1776 views) | | Tasted by dbg on 4/17/2014: Light yellow. Citrus, melon, pear, floral notes, oak on nose. Medium to full body, tropical fruits, spice, oak less prominent than prior bottle last year, has added depth and concentration, good balance, medium finish, outstanding. (2855 views) | | Tasted by HFA on 3/21/2014 & rated 94 points: - It's in total harmony with a light/medium body. Satin-Like texture with a medium finish. (2415 views) | | Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 2/2/2014 & rated 93 points: Cloudy yellow. Nose all vanilla, lemon cream. Taste smooth, mouthfilling, cream soda-like with a lemon finish. Delish (2238 views) | | Tasted by capacious on 1/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Wonderful mineral and acidity-understated, clearly a California chard but absent the dairy products. Needed a magnum for a magnum tasting or might have let this sit but drinking beautifully right now and likely for a decade. (2509 views) | | Tasted by plitton on 11/30/2013 & rated 92 points: Some nice acidity holds this together. Pear, a little honey and butter of course. (1523 views) | | Tasted by dbg on 10/5/2013: Light yellow. Citrus, melon, pear, oak on nose. Medium body, tropical fruits, spice, oak on the palate, good balance, medium finish, excellent. (1705 views) | | Tasted by lvjohn on 6/24/2013 & rated 96 points: This must be as close to perfection as California can come! Pure, rich, and stunningly delicious. This was our last bottle and we will miss it. (1810 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Peter Michael Producer website

The Peter Michael Winery is the California outpost of British-born Sir Peter Michael who has shown a Midas touch for selecting brilliant winemakers, including Helen Turley, Mark Aubert, Luc Morlet and more recently Luc’s brother, Nicolas. The consistency of these offerings from the cool climate hillside vineyards in Knight’s Valley and the Sonoma Coast has been respected and cherished by each of these winemakers... All things considered, Peter Michael is one of the reference point wineries in California.

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers.
