Tasted by jamesabdavis on 3/10/2024: Much better than the last bottle.
A gorgeous nose with lots of herbs but also pure strawberry fruit and secondary leafy evolution. Absolutely knockout.
Fresh and elegant on the palate. Again the lovely strawberry fruit, a gorgeous confit sweetness.
Absolutely superb: the first bottle from this case was obviously faulty, the fruit wasn’t there. (270 views)
Tasted by jamesabdavis on 2/1/2024: Elegant herb, spice, discreet blueberry fruit
Elegant. Lots of tannin. Fading fruit.
Not a great showing. (340 views)
Tasted by Radders12345 on 12/9/2023: BTG via Coravin at 67PM from double magnum.

Pale translucent ruby with bricking at the rim.
Nose has an unfussed elegance to it, some sprezzatura. Deep plum and Christmas spice, orange peel, posh leather, terracotta and in the background a lifted light cherry note and sundried tomato.
Disappointingly less generous on the palate - there is
a hint of a coherent picture for a second then becomes disjointed with quite a bitter finish. Perhaps tapped too much with the Coravin (515 views)
Tasted by finediningnyc on 11/3/2023 & rated 95 points: Gorgeous tonight! Incredibly vibrant and fresh for the warm vintage. It’s so elegant and detailed with a captivating bouquet of wilted roses, red berry fruit, smoky herbs and mushrooms and the palate is delicate, pure and long with incisive acids, lift and layered minerality. Peak. (510 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 9/16/2023: A Delightful Dinner in Vienna: Ruby with minimal color change. A whiff of VA and ripe red fruit. Excellent volume and mouth coverage, deep dark cherry, lush and long with fine acidity, perfectly folded in tannins. Delicious and still 5+ years of potential. (1098 views)
Tasted by soyhead on 4/3/2023 flawed bottle: Corked!!! (745 views)
Tasted by Benoit Hardy on 12/27/2022 & rated 93 points: On the nose, the fruit is dazzling for a 22-year-old wine, with red fruits, raspberry and strawberry.

The wine is wonderfully fresh on the palate. Freshly harvested raspberry sensation. The style is resolutely feminine, it is very fine and delicate, with a first quality juice to which a beautiful perfectly integrated acidity responds. It's balanced and clear. Nice menthol finish that goes on all in length.

Excellent, but I was expecting a little more complexity. (886 views)
Tasted by Gian on 12/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Great wine. One of my favourites. Cherries , red fruits , earth , balanced , savory , refreshing acidity , long finish (1757 views)
Tasted by rlove on 10/22/2019 & rated 94 points: Bright, fresh, and balanced, surprisingly suave and elegant given the warmer vintage. Savory, complex nose. I'm pleasantly surprised: The 2000 Le Pergole Torte is excellent. (2271 views)
Splendido finale lungo. (5270 views)
Tasted by kevinacohn on 12/18/2014: By the glass from 3L. Unlike the 1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2004 vintages, all of which I've had this year and all of which were unmistakably Tuscan Sangiovese (and Montevertine at that), this 2000 could easily be confused for something else entirely—Nebbiolo and Burgundy both came to mind. Mint, truffles, tart cherries. A most feminine expression from a producer with a most feminine style. A beautiful accompaniment to cheeses. Rated 3 on a scale of -1 to 3. (5168 views)
Tasted by Mark H. LeQuire on 2/16/2014 & rated 94 points: Beautifully aged Sangiovese. Paired beautifully with white cheese, spinach, and prosciutto pizza. No flaws. Light ruby color. No sediment. Soft, but classic, Sangiovese nose. Soft red fruits. No tannin. Low alcohol. Medium finish. Very smooth. Certainly very ready to drink. Suspect it is entering the end of its drinking window.  Tasted by Bluespolo on 1/19/2014 & rated 95 points: Served after half an hour of oxygenation. Ruby color with garnet tendency; a certain opacity. Lavish nose: complex and intense very elegant. Soft wild berries jam, black cherry, plum, and a red cherry that shows up after some more oxygenation. Violet, coffee, tobacco, a spicy note of cinnamon and clove, and a balsamic note of underbrush and wet earth. Well balanced at palate, but very structured, with juicy tannins and fresh acidity that makes it very easy to drink. The finish is very long and a little bitter.
It is not usual for me to give ratings so much above the average. In addition this vintage is not considered fortunate (at least not like 99 or 2001) for Le Pergola Torte. Maybe the wine has reached a "magic" stage of evolution, or perhaps we found a "lucky" bottle, but it deserved widely the evaluation assigned.

(4783 views)
Tasted by SteveHyde on 12/19/2013 & rated 92 points: Beautiful. I'd say it's now at peak. Can't get much better than it was this week. (4481 views)
Tasted by igaf on 10/24/2013: Rather strong, mushroom nose with some faded fruit. Moderate acidity and tannins, somewhat falling apart, slightly sweetish palate with mushrooms and plums. Similar aftertaste, long. Tired, could be an off bottle. (2365 views)

Tasted by lollo on 2/20/2010 & rated 93 points: deep red, with a great nose.this sangiovese in purezza doesn't want to pretend to be,it is.In the mouth is very smooth and the tannins are not too aggressive.
I opened this wine one hour earlier and had a great T-Bone steak, the combination was perfect and eveybody around the table enjoyed.
it is a must to have in the cellar.

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
