Tasted by beatles on 11/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Oak fully integrated, finally. Nice fruit, easy going Grenache, clear fruit. Interesting to taste this.

Tasted by sbosse on 3/6/2022 & rated 95 points: Gigondas maximus! Very good after all these years. (kept at 13,5 Celsius and 67% humidity for two decades) (689 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 11/30/2021: Old label. Great, mature Gigondas. Cool and calm. Tertiary notes, funk. Mint. Fully mature now. (948 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 5/28/2020 & rated 90 points: Light red with clear edges. Funky slightly musty, herbal nose. Lots of tertiary notes instead of fruit. There is some berry in the mouth along with tobacco and cedar. Very balanced light finish.

Tasted fresher then it smelled. (1325 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 11/18/2018: Getting better and better, this is now on tertiary flavors and very cool, upright fruit. (1505 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 5/31/2018 & rated 89 points: Lovely for 20 year old Gigondas but would advise to drink up. Baby fat/fruit is gone. Medium bodied that is well filled with red fruit and leather. Pretty clean overall but not boring. Good, mature wine. (89) (1433 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 12/20/2016 & rated 87 points: Past its prime but still alive. Don't know if this is just an off bottle or whether the wine is just sliding downhill. Light brick with a very clear rim. Nose is a mix of classic earthy Grenache and more modern ripe fruit. Palate is soft and has lost most of its juicy youthful impact. Today a bit watery with a hair of drying structure on the back end. What is there is delightful. I have one bottle left and will drink very soon. (87) (1821 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 11/29/2016 & rated 92 points: Red fruit (cherry), spice, garrigue, leather, slight smoke. Wild herbs. Acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable. (1760 views)
Tasted by raggedy1 on 10/22/2016 & rated 89 points: Still has good fruit and acidity balance. Paired well with carbonara (1706 views)
Tasted by guribh on 9/21/2016 & rated 91 points: Loved it!. Classy, balanced with dark cherry/mocha note. Elegant and yes, at the top of its game (as DBKITC wrote in 2015). Have 10 left, might speed up the consumption (no, they will not all be chugged this weekend...). (1578 views)
Tasted by Hodby on 11/22/2015 & rated 88 points: Medium red-garnet color, pale-edged. Cherry-cranberry nose, with menthol and dried red rose petals. On arrival, medium tannin and medium acidity; bone dry, lean, austere, almost severe in the mouth. Good finish, menthol and eucalyptus nose carrying it. Bottle #2 of two. (1946 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 9/30/2015 & rated 89 points: Red cherry and dry earthy flavors. Feels like it might be a little on the downhill side, although still tasty. (1607 views)
Tasted by dbkitc on 6/22/2015 & rated 91 points: Light ruby color with some orange at the rim. Sweet red fruit nose with olive and a touch of vanilla spice. Smooth, creamy palate that is absolutely at the top of its game. Everything is totally integrated except for a touch of wood tannin on the finish. As good as this wine can be. Delicious but drink up. (91) (1838 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 6/12/2015 & rated 91 points: consistent with notes of 12/28/2014 - last of a great find (1661 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 4/30/2015: The last many bottles I've had of this wine have been pleasant surprises and this one was no exception. The fruit here is still fresh and vibrant and there's tertiary flavors as well. Good structure, all is contained. Can move along nicely for another 3-5 years. (1740 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 4/3/2015 & rated 91 points: consistent with notes of 12/28/2014 remarkable considering the age of this wine that each bottle has been outstanding. (1280 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 2/22/2015 & rated 91 points: consistent with notes of 12/28/2014 (1285 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 1/18/2015 & rated 91 points: consistent with notes of 12/28/2014 (1181 views)
Tasted by frogwine on 1/8/2015: Wine was showing nicely. Mid-weight, up front (fine) tannins. Fruit has lost all it's baby fat. Time to drink it-it has some time left but it is not going to get any better. A solid drink. (1262 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 1/3/2015 & rated 91 points: consistent with notes of 12/28/2014 (1184 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 12/28/2014 & rated 91 points: No need to wait on this wine, as you might guess. Some funk on the nose, but it largely blew off in about 30 min. Leaves a currant & cherry nose. Tastes both of sweet and tart cherry, a touch of mint wet stone and as well as some very fine tannin. Drink up and enjoy. (1160 views)
Tasted by skinut on 10/19/2014 & rated 88 points: Distinct funkiness that never blows off - even on the second day. I am beginning to think all older Gigondas are this way. Not a desirable trait for me. I may need to try a recently issued Gigondas to see if it ia trait or that I am just holding on to them too long. (1281 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 12/24/2013: Another great showing. Funky, earthy, very well contained old-fashioned wine. Lots of character here. Susanne liked this a lot more than the 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape from Font de Michelle. Worked well with the duck. (1786 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 2/9/2013: Wow, at age 15 this has turned in to a beauty. The color is fairly light given its a Gig, the nose is fragrant with aromas of dried roses, bitter red fruit and smoke. A palate of bitter fruit, spices and forest floor. A hint of tar. Very cool and restrained, 14% alcohol. This could pass for a Nebbiolo from Piedmont. I'm happy I've been able to follow this wine's evolution over the years. This one was with the tan label. Lovely stuff and a redemption for Saint Cosme in my book. (2199 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 4/21/2012: A bottle with the tan label (label 12/12 on CT). I most admit that I am slowly coming back to liking the wines from Saint Cosme. This wine, at least, is genuine, there is a nice display of sour, red cherry fruit, funk, spices and sous-bois. What's remarkable here is how how cool and restrained this wine is compared to the neighboring wines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 1998 - often showing ripe, pruned characteristics. Theres is a certain freshness to this wine and for tonight, this is the winner. With Osso Bucco with fennel and orange. (2568 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
