| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Milliontown on 11/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Has held up very well for an aged Mataro. Was expecting something lighter, but it's actually quite full bodied, viscous, yet smooth on the palate. Great balance, still some dark fruit there on the nose like plums, prunes and quince - and some charred oak character. Went over well. (1346 views) | | Tasted by zscheiner on 3/19/2012 & rated 90 points: Blind Tasting 1986-1997 Mourvedres (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Pretty, lifted nose of sweet raspberry and clove. Light to medium bodied with medium acidity. Mix of tart and sweet raspberry fruit. Young, tart and tasty. Outlier in the flight, wasn't surprised it was the youngest. (my 4th, group's 1st) (2483 views) | | Tasted by ekenneth on 12/28/2010 & rated 92 points: Beautiful, silky soft, earthy California Mourvedre that retains good balance and fruit while showing it's age. This reminds me of a combination of some of the more traditional Monastrell from Jumilla that come into the US through Jose Pastor and an aged version of the Beaucastel cotes du rhone. This is my last bottle of this and I hadn't tried it for a year and a half or two and I wish I had more. (2234 views) | | Tasted by slmral on 9/27/2009 & rated 88 points: Lighter color. Lesser tannins. Youthful at 12. Still nice fruit, plums on the nose, cherries on the palate. A light, pleasant wine. (2492 views) |
| Ridge Producer website | Wikipedia
Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson |
