Tasted by farinas on 8/13/2017 & rated 89 points: Past it's time so if you have any left drink them now. Brick color with dried spicy fruit. (1596 views)
Tasted by Bodes on 2/11/2015 & rated 90 points: So beautiful and elegant right now. I imagine it's peaking right now but nowhere near being over the hill. A testament to how well even inexpensive Tablas Creek bottles age. (3267 views)
Tasted by michal on 6/5/2013: Certainly a good wine that is ready to drink (4616 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 5/11/2013 & rated 87 points: A lot of undergrowth and mushroom throughout, but the fruit is too subtle, austere even by other TC standards. (4562 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 12/23/2012 & rated 89 points: No notes taken. Not the most concentrated of Cotes, this does show nice secondaries like leather and fresh earth to go along with its dark red fruits and licorice. All in all, relatively good depth and complexity. Tasty Rhone blend. (5158 views)
Tasted by AnnDavid on 7/9/2012: Fred's Steak BBQ 2012 (4700 views)
Tasted by tward on 2/18/2012 & rated 89 points: Had this about a week ago, no notes taken. I just know that we wish we'd have bought more. '08 was supposed to be a vintage of modest quality and this did seem to be drinking well already, quality was high, very enjoyable from first pour and opened up further. (3735 views)
Tasted by RLP805 on 9/5/2011 & rated 88 points: - Ruby color with fast forming legs. It's somewhat balanced with a light/medium body. Polished texture with a short finish - Pop and poured not very complex, short finish, not much in the way of legs. Light red, almost a Rose. Nice summer red for sipping but would get lost with complex foods. (3529 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 8/16/2011 & rated 84 points: Although we're big Tablas Creek fans, I'm not as enthusiastic about this bottling as others have been in their posts. While a serviceable GSM blend with some Counoise thrown in, this vintage is very reserved. Skimpy legs, not much going on in the aroma department and a fairly hollow middle. It only picks up steam in the finish where currents and red berries and some nice spice components (cinnamon and nutmeg mostly) and tea leaf emerge. Definitely needs some time to come together in the glass. But even then it's only somewhat worth the wait. Given the choice between this and its '08 big brother, the Esprit de Beaucastel, I'd say go big and splurge on the Esprit. Drink up. (3683 views)
Tasted by underwds on 7/12/2011 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured--ouch--all rocks and wood. Let it air out for an hour, and improved dramatically. Some good fruit, then some licorice, finishes with gravel and oak. It's pretty good with food, but the balance is all at the ends, not the middle. (3258 views)
Tasted by Surfdoc on 5/16/2011 & rated 91 points: Soft, fruity nose. Nice flavors of fresh berries and plum with a bright acidity. Med-long finish has soft tannins and reveals some leather and spice as it clings to the palate. Very smooth and refreshing wine. Great QPR. (3667 views)
Tasted by floydtp on 5/11/2011 & rated 90 points: PnP and enjoyed over 3 hours. Nose of red fruit, a hint of smoke and sweet mint. More of the same on the palate with some licorice. Medium long finish with some sour rubber and licorice notes. Medium-low tannins. Very enjoyable wine for any night of the week with great QPR but could also hold its own in a tasting among more expensive CdR-style wines. Drinking great now and should last for a few more years. TCV is sold out of this vintage so if you see any locally, buy it now. (3645 views)
Tasted by ckinv368 on 4/24/2011 & rated 91 points: Really refined. Silky smooth. A bit leathery and meaty on the nose. Some really nice tobacco and leather and meaty. Some smokiness at the very end. Very long finish. Very nice, especially for the price point. (3721 views)
Tasted by mikeaukenbals on 3/23/2011 & rated 90 points: good pop and pour, but wouldn't buy tons. keep a bottle or 2 around for variety. light-medium body and should go well with food that can't hold up to bigger reds. (3877 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 3/9/2011 & rated 89 points: Excellent dark color. Fine nose of Provencal fruit and herbs. Not terribly complex but a pure beam of fruit. Very pretty. Broad and rich on the palate with loads of fruit and nice chewy tannins. This has been open for 24 hours, and it only got better. Nice wine with great PQR. 5-12-16-6: 89/100. (3958 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 2/24/2011 & rated 88 points: Brought to a party. With its friendly and forward style it was enjoyed by all. Good crowd pleaser and very good QPR! (4041 views)
Tasted by ckinv368 on 2/5/2011 & rated 87 points: Notes of blueberry and blackberry, with a hint of lemon on the finish. Not a particularly long finish, but a very pleasant wine. May improve with age, and get more complex and lose some citrus tang. (4330 views)
Tasted by Serge on 2/4/2011 & rated 90 points: Mixed berries, black cherry. A bit peppery. Balanced and easy to drink. Great value. (4329 views)
Tasted by jawlz on 1/30/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice bottle on the whole, but NEEDS time to open up after uncorking (unscrewcapping?).

Color: Deep garnet, some purple, with some dirty orange/brown around the edges. Nice legs.

Nose: Powdered Limestone, licorice, and raspberries. There are slight hints of bell peppers in there as well. Lovely nose overall.

Taste: Very very closed off at first, with gravel and tannings dominating any other flavors. The wine opens up (very) slowly over several hours, though, and once it *has* opened up, it's really quite nice. Red berries - strawberries - and some pepper, with some very nice acidity. It balances very well with the remainder of the earlier gravel flavors. Nice long and leathery finish.

Nice bottle. 90-91 points. (4716 views)
Tasted by Dwalker999 on 1/27/2011 & rated 72 points: Too young (4428 views)
Tasted by Redguy on 1/9/2011 & rated 89 points: Tasting room pour. Bright red fruits with peppery darker fruits lurking. Med. bodied, light tannins, great acids, and a friendly, energetic style will make this an easy choice with foods or on it's own. Very well done for the price. (4504 views)
Tasted by DeRushaJ on 1/8/2011 & rated 88 points: Really enjoyed this bright, peppy red French rhone style wine. Great long finish, rich flavor. (4743 views)
Tasted by mikeaukenbals on 1/8/2011 & rated 89 points: Nothing that special, but great value and drinks very well now. Excellent balance. (4530 views)
Tasted by Cabfrancophile on 12/10/2010: Tablas Creek at East Beach Wine (Santa Barbara, CA): 42% Grenache, 21% Syrah, 20% Counoise, 17% Mourvedre. Good, noticeable acidity, mild tannins, herb, cherry, funk. Not much finish. Seems front loaded like the Blanc to be fruit-forward and early drinking. (5301 views)
Tasted by btb27 on 12/10/2010: A refreshing blend, blueberry and sweet lime, some acidity when opened, but that fades to a velvety medium-long finish. (4800 views)

Tablas Creek

Producer website
Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
