Tasted blind with a Syrah maestro winemaker - he pegged it as a new World syrah right away. We were both wow'd by the freshness and complexity of this bottle. Lots of life still, no need to rush consumption, but doubt it will develop much further. (2214 views) | | Tasted by wcchang on 1/25/2016 & rated 93 points: This is indeed not a typical Syrah, as it has 3% of Viognier fermented with 97% Syrah. Medium body. It offers flowers, dark berries and licorice with peppers. Surprisingly still very enjoyable. (2088 views) | | Tasted by thegracchi on 7/20/2014 & rated 90 points: This was a totally bizarre bottle of wine. It tastes everything like pinot noir and nothing like syrah. After the second glass, I looked again at the bottle thinking I must have mis-read it, but confirmed that it in fact was labeled as a syrah. In any event, it was quite good with some complexity. However, we paired it with pizza, which probably wasn't the best, given that it's essentially a pinot noir. Bizarre. (2640 views) | | Tasted by Pknut on 6/7/2014: Nothing redeeming in this bottle. No reason to drink it. Murky dark fruit, little definition, little Syrah typicity. Celebrating Jennifer's PhD. (2847 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 3/1/2014 & rated 93 points: RICH BLACK CHERRY AND RASPBERIIES IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. NICE COMPLEXITY AND A LONG FINISH. (1571 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 8/10/2009 & rated 95 points: Ruby colored with light edges. Scents of jammy, black fruits, pepper, earth peach and tropical aromatics filled the glass. Dense, full bodied, lush fruit, fills your mouth. Very concentrated. Beautiful finish, from start to finish. Great Cote Rotie ringer. (3063 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 6/30/2009 & rated 95 points: Filled with dark, sweet, ripe fruit with, licorice, floral, boysenberry, orange peel, coffee and blueberry aromas. Still young, this wine competes with Sine Qua Non in the same vintage and it is probably a better wine. (3107 views) | | Tasted by Paul Lin on 4/11/2008 & rated 88 points: Syrah Blind Tasting (Newport Beach, CA): This came across as the most mature of the group. Savory notes of cured meat and spice. Balanced. (3292 views) | | Tasted by ajjar on 6/9/2007 & rated 85 points: Light on fruit and texture, long on an unbalanced acidity. Fading.... (2717 views) | | Tasted by mappleton on 1/7/2007 & rated 94 points: Wonderful chocolate and cherry aromas with great peppery overtones. Andrea mentioned this is why she likes domestic and French syrah's so much more than many of the Aussie's, the pepper component gives a wonderful liveliness to the wine that made it very spectial. 94 (2975 views) | | Tasted by ken-yyz on 1/31/2006 & rated 93 points: A wonderful CA syrah. Velvet smooth texture and rich bouquet of fruit, spice and meat. Best of all, it was great to sip on its own and paired with steak (grilled rib-eye) and baked potatoes fantastically. The finish was smooth and long and continued to improve with air putting on more weight as it went. (3041 views) | | Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/12/2005 & rated 95 points: Perfectly balanced with layers of black fruit, spice and floral aromas. Full bodied, concentrated, multilayered, plush, rich, complex juice with an elegant finish. It’s a shame Arrowood sold the winery because it slid rapidly downhill after the 97 vintage. (2048 views) | | Tasted by ajjar on 4/16/2005 & rated 91 points: Hmmm. Very tasty, deep & dark, and seems in a zone where the tannins and flavors need to better integrate; they're certainly there, though. Decanting for an hour, probably more, would make drinking now more pleasurable. Try again in next couple of years. Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
