Tasted by jbaron on 4/8/2017 & rated 93 points: A great showing of our last bottle. Structured in the way that R/V blends can be. Honeyed nose, great structured length. (770 views)
Tasted by chadrich on 4/30/2016: Jasmine and peach pit on the nose. Lemon curd and a bit of petrol on the palate. Viscous texture and long finish. Some alcohol notable on the finish. Still a very enjoyable wine and showing well at this age. (1335 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 4/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Nice! Great mouth and taste. Good nose. Decent length, if a bit thin. Still quite nice. (1222 views)
Tasted by budman on 9/3/2015 & rated 93 points: Best bottle yet! Crisp and zesty. (1440 views)
Tasted by alanr on 8/7/2015 & rated 90 points: Showing some color, quite rich, some development but no oxidation, peach pit, peanut skin, lush and unctuous. Will be interesting to try my last couple in another year or two. (1811 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 2/4/2015 & rated 91 points: creamy homeysuckle coconut; well made but not really my style (993 views)
Tasted by silton on 4/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Served at 60+ degrees. Creamy, roasted nut nose with honeysuckle. Glossy vanilla and lemon verbena custard palate. Some powdered limestone on the back end never fully integrated so I think this could have benefited from decanting like previous bottles, because I do not believe this is past peak with an aroma simultaneously powerful and sublime. Taken to a new restaurant in Palo Alto, Lure and Till, and a nice match with successful rich pasta and chicken dishes. 92-93 and my last bottle, alas. (1278 views)
Tasted by alanr on 9/5/2013 & rated 93 points: Light hay in color, with a nose that seems to match, dried hay with a touch of honeysuckle; palate is somewhat rich and velvety, with a hint of oily wax, roasted almonds, a dried pineapple note, and a rich, lasting finish. Gorgeous. So sad this is my last bottle. (1666 views)
Tasted by alanr on 5/7/2013 & rated 91 points: Needs a little air, then shows quite youthful and fresh, with reserved stone fruit, peach pit, some nutty/brioche character, nice acidity. Very nice. (1702 views)
Tasted by zheem on 10/16/2012: This wine was such a crowd pleaser among a group of red wine enthusiasts. Over years there is less honey/beeswax flavor, but there is a rich focused citrus curd note that is exquisite. (1696 views)
Tasted by budman on 10/12/2012 & rated 92 points: Best yet!!! (1584 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 4/10/2012 & rated 92 points: Notes pretty similar to previous bottle so it doesn't seem like this has changed much over the last couple of years. Main evolutionary change is that I'd say this now has more of an almond/nutty characteristic to it. Quite nice. (1666 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 2/8/2012 & rated 92 points: Tasty, clean, and quite nice. (1535 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 1/9/2012 & rated 91 points: Light gold in color. Nose of peaches and stone fruits. Peaches persist on the attack, followed by citrus and some bitterness. Finishes with a slightly oily feel; overall quite round and polished. Paired well with fish in a spicy sauce. (1759 views)
Tasted by silton on 12/25/2011 & rated 93 points: Christmas Run; 12/24/2011-12/26/2011 (Around the Bay): Great match with creamy roasted garlic soup and white bean crostini. Served at cellar temperature after an hour+ decant. Absolutely sublime. (2016 views)
Tasted by jupiter33 on 11/21/2011 & rated 88 points: Decanted and drank over several hours. Very disappointed. There is nothing wrong with this wine. Muted nose and restrained flavor profile of honey, citrus and minerals. Med length and descent acidity. The only problem is that for $40 you expect a lot more. I have had similar experience for half the price. (1559 views)
Tasted by budman on 11/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Complex, with very good stone fruit flavors and aromas. (1585 views)
Tasted by ksmith on 9/29/2011 & rated 91 points: PnP, but left open on the counter for an hour before dinner. Nose of peach, honey, other stone fruits. On the palate, there is peach, apricot, citrus acidity and minerals. Very nice, paired well with shrimp, red pepper pasta. (1482 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 5/25/2011 & rated 92 points: A Cali Thoroughbred for sure if you like the profile. Regardless a good wine. Go Peay. (1948 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 5/19/2011 & rated 90 points: One of Cali's premier white Rhone blends. Classic honeyed nose. More crisp and acidic than expected. Not overly ripe and opulent- actually pretty restrained. Not typical, but very nice nonetheless. (1779 views)
Tasted by danski on 4/28/2011 & rated 92 points: mineral flavors, nicely balanced. medium+ finish. (2131 views)
Tasted by alanr on 4/13/2011 & rated 93 points: Light yellow gold color, a hit of rich flavor on entry that quickly transitions through spice in the mid-palate, then more mineral through the finish, which twists and lasts quite a while. Unique and lovely wine, a bit more rounded than the ethereal 07, but still extremely fine. (2005 views)
Tasted by nospeel on 2/20/2011 & rated 92 points: Floral, honeyed-fruit on the nose - peach and spice on the palate. Nicely balance - a little more acidity would have been nice. I think this is better without food, than with. (2187 views)
Tasted by jbaron on 2/20/2011: Similiar. A bit unformed. (2252 views)
Tasted by Why Yes on 2/19/2011 & rated 89 points: 73% Roussanne, 27% Marsanne

A good, sound wine, that is clean and easy. I sense a small dollop of oak, and the weight of lees aging. There's a bit of pie-crust and buttscotch in the flavor profile, with an underlying metallic edge I don't particularly love. I would love some more richneuld prefer a s and true Roussanne fruit. Missing the honey, white flower and limes. Ultimately a bit of a bummer for my tastes. Would prefer a bit more hedonism here. With Peay probably barking up the wrong tree. (2269 views)

Peay Vineyards

Producer Website

Andy and Nick Peay started Peay Vineyards in 1996 with the goal to make wines that capture a purity and sense of place like the great wines they enjoyed drinking from the Old World. To that end, the brothers decided it was critical for them to own and farm their own grapes in a climate much cooler than they had experienced anywhere in the New World. In 1996, they purchased an old sheep ranch on a ridge overlooking the Pacific Ocean on the extreme West Sonoma Coast - where folks said it was too cold to ripen wine grapes - and began planting in 1998.

Before their first harvest in 2001, the Peay brothers were joined in their endeavor by Vanessa Wong, former winemaker at Peter Michael, who started her career with stints at Château Lafite Rothschild and Domaine Jean Gros. This allowed Nick to focus on farming the 51-acre organic vineyard and Andy to manage sales and marketing. They have been fortunate to be able to make wines of finesse and intensity that capture the character of their estate vineyard as well as the attention of wine lovers around the world.

White Rhone Blend

A white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
