Community Tasting Notes (average 84.9 pts. and median of 85 pts. in 39 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by foobarski on 3/25/2014 & rated 86 points: Nice little sour bite, plenty of spice and dark fruit. Feels like it's starting to slip away, but it's far from gone now. (All the same, probably shouldn't plan to hold this one much longer ...) (1410 views)
Tasted by yorknh on 5/13/2013 flawed bottle: I guess it was oxidized since it didn't have that grunky, mildewy smell or taste of a corked bottle, but it was definitely bad. Maybe a hint of vinegar with bitter elements. (1816 views)
Tasted by GlassHalfFull on 10/3/2012 & rated 88 points: Great value. A little simple and tart, but a nice drinker. (2241 views)
Tasted by Chargerrt500 on 8/11/2012: Made a Sangria Spritzer out of it. (2832 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 5/5/2012 & rated 85 points: Nothing great, but the price was right. Dark fruit on the nose and palate ... but not much 'oomph' going for it. (2318 views)
Tasted by richardhod on 5/1/2012 & rated 85 points: Decent Syrah, more northern than Southern Rhone, but fruity and Californian. Maybe slightly hot, and didn't gain depth on the second day, but was a bit flat, which is a pity as it suggests this is just for young-drinking. No huge structure or tannins, but an easy-drinking but decently-acidic wine, with deep red-black fruits, very Syrah like. Not enough earth or depth for my liking, but fun enough. (1856 views)
Tasted by ckeilah on 3/10/2012 & rated 80 points: Not much going on here. Drinkable hamburger wine. (1576 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 1/29/2012 & rated 88 points: Great QPR! Dark fruit on the nose and palate ... in fact, after thinking about it and the other 2 bottles at a dinner party, this one stood out ... nice balance, drinkabilty and quality for the price. (1233 views)
Tasted by joesi16 on 11/30/2011 & rated 83 points: ok for the price (996 views)
Tasted by ckeilah on 10/26/2011 & rated 88 points: Pop & pour. Dark garnet with a tinge of purple. Big Cali yeast, alcohol, berries and camphor, the latter mostly blew off after just a few minutes. Nice mouth, medium body, nice structure. New world, easy drinking. Damn good stuff! (1708 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 9/14/2011 & rated 89 points: 3rd bottle of this and by far the best showing. Popped and poured. Nose of dark berries, chocolate, alcohol. On the palate very silky texture, rich fruit, spices. Hint of dusty tannins on the short finish. Overall very balanced, fruit forward. (1663 views)
Tasted by scpotter on 8/17/2011 & rated 88 points: Didn't take good notes other than took a while for it to open and fantastic QPR. (1671 views)
Tasted by stormn1 on 8/16/2011 & rated 84 points: Dark ruby color and cherry taste. Decent tannins and smooth. Better than expected syrah at this price point. (1742 views)
Tasted by anonymoose12345 on 7/28/2011 & rated 86 points: Quite forgettable, even for the price. Pedroncelli does a lot of wines well, but this one want quite up to snuff. (1788 views)
Tasted by winegr on 7/7/2011 & rated 88 points: Great QPR. What it lacks a bit in depth, it makes up for in balance, elegance, and purity of black cherry fruit balanced by some slightly dusty understated tannins and nice acidity. This is quite nice and could age a few years with its balance and acidity. 88-89. (1775 views)
Tasted by boatman72 on 5/6/2011 & rated 89 points: This was not a recent purchase so it had time to sit. I really like this one. After going through an aerator, I got dark cherry, hint of plum, smooth to mouth feel with a nice spicy finish with a nice touch of heat. Great QPR through Woot. I'm rally liking Pedroncelli!!!!! Great job Ed and Julie. (2206 views)
Tasted by smcvick on 4/22/2011 & rated 85 points: Unimpressed when bottle first opened, flavors not well integrated, with a bit of heat. After an hour, things settled down, and wine was quite drinkable. (2495 views)
Tasted by ed-d on 3/5/2011 & rated 88 points: Good dark black/ruby color. Slightly smoked, slightly meaty nose of black fruit. Medium entry of black plum skin flavors that has a tart edge. Dusty, mellow tannins coat the tongue on the finish. OK for the $. (2526 views)
Tasted by boatman72 on 12/19/2010 & rated 86 points: Just received the wine two days ago and I usually let it sit for a month. Can't wait. Color is very dark. Upon running an initial sample through my venturi, tasted dark fruit and some heat. Let the bottle breathe for a couple of hours and the wine lost some of the heat. The wine seems young and needs time in the bottle or at least some time to settle from shipping. (2675 views)
Tasted by ed-d on 3/12/2010 & rated 89 points: Dark black color. Very full nose of stemmy plum & earthy pepper. Tight entry with big, dusty, chalky black fruit & massive tannins. This is a big wine for the money & nowhere near ready to drink. With some bottle age, it could all come together nicely. (2912 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
