| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by abh on 2/7/2018: Giacosa Lunch: Fully mature, and the only one of the 3 Giacosas we drank one after each other to show some aged notes, but still plenty of fruit too. A gentler wine than the 2 Barolos, but still very characteristic. (2077 views) | | Tasted by Paul D on 7/8/2016 & rated 89 points: Decanted 1/2 an hour. Mature appearance - pale/medium garnet/mahogany core, wide pale mahogany rim. Developed nose but still showing good freshness with truffle, mushroom, florals and vestiges of dried red fruits. Medium bodied, soft, resolved, mature, sweet red fruits, florals, mushroom notes, touch of brown sugar, balanced acidity, good length, harmonious finish with a hint of spice emerging as it warms in glass. Very good indeed, now fully mature. (2670 views) | | Tasted by eboracum on 11/30/2014 & rated 93 points: This bottle of generic Barbaresco from a reputedly so-so vintage was really excellent. Colour was quite light and transparent but showed few signs of bricking. The nose was bright and fragrant with a blend of fresh raspberry, framboise eau de vie blanche and violets. The medium bodied pale was linear and quite long with more bright fruit adding a touch of delicious varnish and liqueur to the raspberry and violets, some underlying secondary notes, moreish acidity and enough firmness of grip to support the finish. The overall effect was fresh, fragrant and very elegant. Bravo Giacosa and Barbaresco. Excellent but my last bottle, alas. (3086 views) | | Tasted by steinersing on 8/30/2014 & rated 90 points: Very attractive nose, perhaps promising a bit more than it delivers. (3094 views) | | Tasted by Paul D on 9/14/2011 & rated 89 points: Pale/medium mahogany core, wide pale mahogany rim. Developed nose showing leather, spice, brown sugar, nutty and soil notes. There is more fruit on the initial attack, red cherries, also almonds, brown sugar and leather. This is medium bodied, with a reasonably layered and intense mid-palate, but quite firm tannins which come through on the good length, fresh finish, which shows notes of hazelnut and soil. Decent, if not exceptional, the firm tannic signature in this bottle demanding food. (4577 views) | | Tasted by Paul D on 11/13/2010 & rated 91 points: Decanted 1/2 an hour. Pale/medium garnet core, wide garnet orangeing rim. Mature nose with strawberry and red cherry fruit, distinctive notes of black truffle, hints of earth, licorice and brown sugar. Medium bodied on the palate, fresh acidity, some mature red fruit, licorice, earth, brown sugar on good length, fresh but slightly firm finish. (3467 views) | | Tasted by 1961Vintage on 9/7/2010 & rated 92 points: great bottle of wine..Classic style..even better day 2..let breathe at least 2 hours...decant if possible (3216 views) | | Tasted by Paul D on 1/11/2009 & rated 93 points: Decanted and immediately served. Pale/medium garnet red core, wide garnet orangeing rim. Nose is open and intense, showing sweet red cherry fruit, licorice, hints of soil, smoke and brown sugar. Very complex. No more than medium bodied on the palate, but lovely depth and fine, focussed fruit, firm but very fine tannins and lovely bouncy acidity which carries a delicious, long, finish with licorice and soil notes. Beautifully balanced. Really lovely wine, open and approachable but with every sign of being worthy of ageing too. (3117 views) |

WINES OF THE WINERY "AZIENDA AGRICOLA FALLETTO"The grapes are grown in the winery’s own vineyards and vinified in their cellars. These wines are sold with a label bearing the wording: "Azienda Agricola FALLETTO"– di Bruno GiacosaNebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
