Way over the hill, but kind of enjoyable anyway. (80 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 9/26/2009: Loads of papaya, mango and guava on the nose with flecks of minerals and wet stones, too. Medium+ body, with layers of tropical fruit, but a bit too much ripeness for my taste. I think it's just past peak, and the low acidity doesn't help that cause. It tries to be showy (and fails), but still, a good food wine. Drink thru 2011, $13 (closeout). (1913 views) | | Tasted by djs on 7/4/2007 & rated 91 points: RS? (2163 views) | | Tasted by jivey on 7/3/2007 & rated 90 points: Papaya, exotic fruits with a spicy mid pallet and on the finish. (1923 views) | | Tasted by jjclips2 on 2/2/2007 & rated 92 points: WOW. This is one powerful, rich, extracted PG, and surprisingly still fresh and lively for being almost 5 years old. The nose alone is satisfying enough. Stone fruits, nectarine, honey, crushed flowers, it never ends. I didn't really want to drink it, just wanted to smell it for the rest of the night. The palate follows through with rich peaches, mango, some glycerol notes, not too much minerality, but enough to add complexity. The acidity is a little on the soft side, and the body is very full bodied. This bottle was open for almost 24 hours before it was finished, and it remained fresh the entire time. My favorite of the Albrecht's thus far. 92+ (2117 views) | | Tasted by hutch on 2/1/2007 & rated 90 points: Nice fruit, mostly peaches, and some minerality on the expressive nose. This wine really shines on the palate, though. Honeysuckle and a nice, rich mouthfeel, with soft acidity. A real joy. It is, however, not what I would expect from alsace. (2287 views) | | Tasted by Stephan O on 7/15/2005 & rated 86 points: This slightly sweet Pinot Gris shows some intriguing breadiness but not much ripeness or opulence. It's tasty but thin; the nose brings honey to mind, and the palate offers up a bit of pear, but I'm disappointed not to find the edginess, power, and petrol that I associate with fine Alsace wines. In short, this is a good everyday quaff if you favor something off-dry (which I don't) -- and it's certainly better than the flavorless Pinot Grigio at the supermarket -- but it's also well short of what this grape is capable of achieving. (1869 views) | | Tasted by RussW on 6/20/2005: This wine was okay but a little sweet for my palate. The only other Lucien Albrecht Pinot Gris I have tried is the '01 Tokay Vieilles Vignes which I much preferred to this. (2200 views) |

U.S. Importer (add'l info)Pinot GrisFrom Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry: Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.
Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation. Varietal character (Appellation America)
