Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 4/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Sweet purple fruit. Spice and dust on the finish. Beautiful luxurious mouthfeel and finish. Age has added complexity. A lovely wine. (2093 views)
Tasted by SkeBum on 1/21/2022 & rated 79 points: Decanted, did a dance around it, nothing can help it. Wine is shot, not even cooking wine. Flabby, messy, sad. (2235 views)
Tasted by wmccone54 on 7/24/2021: Low expectations given the CT “drink by date “ has passed; did not decant and used an Ah-so cork puller to open. Very surprised this is still hanging on; and quite honestly, drinking very well! Black fruits and structure structure “ in tact”. Given the outstanding vintage, I’m guessing this should be consumed over the next 1-2 years. Still 92 points. (2797 views)
Tasted by mcease on 1/2/2021 & rated 93 points: Nose- red fruit and menthol.
Pallet - cassis, blueberry, luscious mouth feel. Mid pallet a little flabby but finish takes over and redeems it. Finish that lingers 20+ seconds. 93 points. Well done! (3622 views)
Tasted by hopkinstx on 12/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Nice nose. Smooth tannins. Lasting aftertaste. A bit metallic, but very nice. Might be slightly over prime but a wonderful wine still. (3479 views)
Tasted by well-red on 10/24/2020 & rated 90 points: drinking beautifully right now. Suggest it is at its peak drinking window.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. The body is full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes long. (2337 views)
Tasted by davudvl on 7/16/2020 & rated 91 points: Excellent. Smooth and integrated. Drink now. Don’t think this will be getting any better (2522 views)
Tasted by Reinerberge on 5/15/2020 & rated 92 points: Just perfect. Tastes like it is at its peak now. Had it with an amazing Flanksteak and it paired really well. Great Nappa Cabernet! (2281 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 4/25/2020 & rated 93 points: In my cellar since release. Decanted at 5pm and tasted over the next 5 hours with some left for tomorrow. This is a very pretty wine, elegant and more balanced than I expected. Labeled 14.5% ABV but not over ripe or showing any “heat”. It is a translucent medium to dark garnet. Nose is lightly perfumed with hints of vanilla and spice, some floral elements and mostly red fruit and berries. Tannin well integrated and acidity is bright enough to border on mouth watering. Palate is generous but restrained, mostly red current, plum and black raspberry along with some secondary cedar and mint. All together a lovely wine with a nice medium long finish. Rather unassuming but enjoyable. Certainly enjoyable for another few years with proper cellaring but probably near the end of peak plateau.

P.S. I had the rest on Sunday evening. It was even better. Much deeper and richer with chocolate on the nose and palate and more black fruit like blackberry. Raise rating 91-93 Remarkable! (2207 views)
Tasted by Gr8penut on 4/23/2020 & rated 89 points: good, but may be in a "dumb" period. Waiting on my last bottle. (1697 views)
Tasted by Walt L on 4/19/2020 & rated 94 points: One of my favorite years for Artemis! Drinking so well right now. Dark berries and a hint of vanilla. Soft tannins and a medium oak finish. (1469 views)
Tasted by askoje on 4/10/2020 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous bottles. Decanted 1-2 hours this time. Blackberry, plum, cedar and vanilla. Well balanced, still alive and drinking well. Excellent Cabernet from Napa (1182 views)
Tasted by manny651 on 12/23/2019 & rated 90 points: drinking nicely, chocolaty and spice, a bit raisiny (1580 views)
Tasted by Old Joe on 12/19/2019 & rated 90 points: Wine is still in good shape and has life left in it. Unfortunately i did not decant it prior to serving but as the pouring progressed the wine got better. (1457 views)
Tasted by VAD on 12/7/2019 & rated 89 points: Past life it’s prime. Not much of a finish here. (1554 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 11/7/2019 & rated 88 points: Maybe in it's youth it was a force to be reckoned with. Pleasant enough Cabernet that was a, pretty middle of the road nothing special easy to drink probably not worth its release price but its a famous name so who cares what we pay, bottle of wine.

I wish I had opened it 5 years ago. That there are still more than 4,000 bottles in people's cellars absolutely ASTOUNDS me. Good luck!! (mike drop, exit stage right) (1379 views)
Tasted by Vinos 4 Elk on 11/2/2019: 2007 Stag’s Leap vs 2014 Frog’s Leap Mapa showdown. The stag is a pretty typical, but won handily. (1656 views)
Tasted by mcease on 10/25/2019 flawed bottle: Drank at ND cellars. Either over the hill with nothing left or flawed. No rating. (1272 views)
Tasted by askoje on 9/6/2019 & rated 92 points: Deep red. Artemis 2007 really smells "California Cabernet". Cedar, blackberries, plum, and baking spices on the nose. Still very young and fruit-forward on the nose. Would never have guessed it to be 12 years.
Big mouthfeel, taste follows the nose and also with cocoa powder. Good acidity in the mid palate and a nice long dry finish. This held up very well and is absolutely not at the end of it´s life. Would hold for several more years.
On day two in recorked bottle, it starts to show more pencil shavings and dark blueberries. (1450 views)
Tasted by vdv115 on 8/30/2019 & rated 94 points: We drank this wine as part of a wine dinner with close friends. Decanted for about 2 hours. Other reviews indicated that this wine is past it's prime. They are so wrong, the wine it most certainly at it's prime right now and is drinking superbly. This was the best wine of the night. This is pretty closed on the nose. Dark fruit and currants on the palate. Very structured, nice level of acidity and medium level of tannins. Dry wine that is drinking very smoothly, nice balance. One word to describe this wine is elegant. (1451 views)
Tasted by fournet on 8/8/2019 & rated 89 points: Okay. Lot of fruit. Not much complexity. (1573 views)
Tasted by UbreBlanca on 7/12/2019: Yummy (1517 views)
Tasted by SCosgrove on 2/18/2019 & rated 91 points: For me, it all depends on what you are eating. Really stood up to a robust pasta and red gravy. A little funk, but I'm not saying i didn't like it. (2185 views)
Tasted by SCosgrove on 12/26/2018 & rated 91 points: Smooth (2255 views)
Tasted by Alok Kapoor on 12/18/2018 & rated 87 points: This is probably past its prime now. (2263 views)

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

Producer website
NOTE: This is easily confused with Stags' Leap Winery, but Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a different winery. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths. "We were founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons — CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, our wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was known only in the Napa Valley until the now-famous 1976 Paris Tasting, when Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine produced at the new winery, bested four top-ranked Bordeaux entries, including first-growths Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The tasting landed Stag's Leap Wine Cellars squarely among the ranks of the world's most noteworthy Cabernet producers and placed Winiarski among the ranks of world's most respected winemakers. It also fundamentally transformed how Californian wines were viewed worldwide [StagsLeap See details here].

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
