Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Brett and Megan on 8/24/2020 & rated 95 points: Exactly what to expect from a Sonoma Cab. Really great, probably at its peak, but sadly this is our last bottle of this vintage. (821 views)
Tasted by WeinBaum on 1/19/2020 & rated 92 points: Still has not reached its peak but close. Big strong berries and cherries. You could spend a few hundred more on lots of wine and not get anything as good. Just lucky I still have more. (920 views)
Tasted by Colorado Native 3G on 12/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Drink up, fruit is starting to wane. Solid structured wine with dark fruit nose still present. Pleasant. (1086 views)
Tasted by JCaress on 3/12/2018 & rated 92 points: Cherry, black tart. Drinking well. (1434 views)
Tasted by cpdwines on 1/13/2016 & rated 90 points: Smokey and loaded up w/Tannins. Nice wine. (2164 views)
Tasted by Brett and Megan on 7/1/2013 & rated 95 points: Very dark rich color. Smells amazing - rich fruit, a bit jammy, and a background taste of spice and a bit of onion, long finish. Very outstanding. (2730 views)
Tasted by Randoon on 2/18/2013 & rated 88 points: Drink a bottle 2/17/13 good easy drinking Cab- nothing special
(2815 views)
Tasted by golfwine on 10/13/2012 & rated 92 points: OMG! Deep, deep, dark, nearly blackish purple. Opaque. Aromatics were all graphite and licorice with an intriguing herbal edge. More reminiscent of something from Napa or even Sonoma Mountain. Rich and mouthcoating with this great, well-integrated acidity and smooth, sweet, perfectly-balance tannins. This wine is a huge hit! I agree with one of the other authors who said, "Who needs Napa?"!
(The '09 drank on the heels was less modern, purple, unctuous or intriguing.) (3074 views)
Tasted by JCaress on 1/30/2011 & rated 90 points: Nice round cab. Easy to drink and with food, good fruit, well made. Will get better. (4130 views)
Tasted by Jonesdnm@gmail.com on 9/19/2010 & rated 88 points: Wine tasting group - blind tasting. Tasting included the 2003 vintage, which was much better. This has potential but needs much more time to integrate the oak with the fruit. Flavors of blackcurrant, leather, tar and tobacco. Tannins still quite strong. Med-long finish (4009 views)
Tasted by CJM on 8/12/2010 & rated 88 points: may be the best drinking cab for this price... (2791 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
