Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Sean Tay on 9/4/2022 & rated 94 points: Pronounced nose intensity with notes of honey, vanilla, caramelised red apple. Medium+acidity. (825 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 2/16/2020 & rated 94 points: Rich medium yellow; rich, fresh, citrus/lemon nose; full body with good acidity well in balance, concentrated with long aftertaste; taste perhaps a bit muted, but all in all another white `08 success for Kistler, tasting well 10+ years (1326 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 3/23/2018: Compared to a 2008 Kistler Kistler, this one emerged the victor. But, still compared to a 2010 Aubert Lauren, a 2010 K-gaard Judge Chard, and a 2011 Peter Michael, these Kistler chards finished somewhere in the middle. This wine definitely has more minerality. Better balance from start to finish. Very little butter or malo influence here. I think that this wine is right in the wheelhouse, although CT states 2010-2016 drinking window that I have to completely disagree with. This wine is showing beautifully, and probably has another 1-2 years before it starts to decline. Still, if you have these 2008's, it's time to start drinking! (1699 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 9/10/2015 & rated 93 points: Simply delicious! A toned down Calif. chard that hit all the right notes.
Wish I had more! (2982 views)
Tasted by nkirsch on 7/2/2015 & rated 88 points: A bit past its prime. OK fruit and taste but missing something (2929 views)
Tasted by JJN on 6/27/2015 & rated 90 points: A bit past its prime (2511 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 7/21/2014 & rated 94 points: A beautiful Chardonnay. A little muted on the nose, but balances bold flavor with light weight as the best Kistlers do. Tastes of citrus - grapefruit, orange, lemon - mix with vanilla, hazelnut, rock. Gold / yellow in color. More creamy than tart. Fruit and minerality, all in one. Drink now, seems close to peak. 14.1% alcohol. (3227 views)
Tasted by pdemaio on 8/8/2013 & rated 94 points: Drink now. It's peaking and just starting to show the edges of a California shard hitting its midnight crisis. Delicious and exciting. Great nose. excellent balance. Broad mid palate. Some meaniful oak. enjoy. PDQ94 (3240 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 6/7/2013 & rated 93 points: Yea, I can totally understand why folks rank this wine so highly. Its a creamy smooth chardonnay Popsicle that just keeps sliding down........ Yummy in the max but a little more emphasis on the underlying acids would make this an amazing food wine. So only a 93 here (have I ever rated a Chardonnay from anywhere this high?).

On the nose its creamy cumquats, vanilla, spice, and fruits that just sing! Its initial attack on the palate is subtle, profound and long. The finish is balanced, almost sweet, gentle and complex.

Outstanding. (2403 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 4/18/2012 & rated 90 points: Light misty yellow; powerful white flowers in the nose; nice, rounded, balanced, a bit muted, neither fat nor lean; very good but not the best Kistler I have tasted (2650 views)
Tasted by wpd on 4/7/2012 & rated 93 points: Same as previous notes (2396 views)
Tasted by A&C on 12/26/2011 & rated 96 points: Rich, rich, rich, with bananas, grass, carmel, nutmeg, and orange oil. Wow. This is a high caliber, big gun wine. A work of art. (2565 views)
Tasted by wpd on 10/30/2011 & rated 93 points: Excellent round full chard with tropical fruits good balance, acidity, and oak. (2224 views)
Tasted by A&C on 6/26/2011 & rated 92 points: I love Summer!! We cooked some slow roasted peppers and some slow-roasted asparagus, served with some fresh salmon with dill & lemon. The Kistler was a nice little treat. (2747 views)
Tasted by A&C on 6/24/2011 & rated 91 points: Clean. Green apples and lemon grass on the nose. Rich, with nice smooth lime oil, on the palate. A lemon-lime lingers on the palate. Hint of ripe banana. Quite nice. Bottle No. 07751 of 10,980. (2520 views)
Tasted by RobMc on 5/29/2011 & rated 90 points: Pick up some flint and stone on the nose. The lemon/citrus is very forward and dominate in the first few seconds...perhaps a little too much drinking alone without food (as we did). The finish is long with a carmel that fades to nice vanilla. Definitely serve only slightly chilled or even at room temperature to fully enjoy. Or try it fully chilled at first then let warm up and experience the transformations the wine comes to room temperature. (2227 views)
Tasted by Decster on 1/30/2011 & rated 94 points: Smoke and lemon/orange/vanilla on the nose. Orange taste with a long caramel and fudge finish. (2568 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
