| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by gutt22 on 2/11/2012: 14.5% alcohol. This seemed leaner than the previous bottle. Extremely floral on the nose, with a greater degree of minerality showing through. In the mouth, it also seems leaner, less hot than the bottle last May. Aromatic even on the palate, it's got strong acidity and a funky quality that makes it a great pairing for Thai food. Where is the fruit? 14.5% alcohol is way too much for a wine that lacks fruit. (2190 views) | | Tasted by woodwardcellar on 7/9/2011 & rated 90 points: It has that GVTMNR lychee character but also plenty of oak so that it's smooth and, in an interesting kind of way, really cloudy. This was exceptional, Joseph Swan really knows what they're doing. (1109 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 6/26/2011: Drinking fantastic tonight (1090 views) | | Tasted by gutt22 on 5/26/2011: 14.5% alcohol. Light yellow color. Extremely floral and expressive nose, with apricot and tart peach, and plenty of minerals. In the mouth, very dry but full of floral and peach notes, along with crisp acidity. A bit warm on the finish. B+ (1043 views) | | Tasted by gutt22 on 2/26/2011: 14.5% alcohol. Light yellow color. Tremendously floral on the nose, with ripe peach and mineral notes. In the mouth, quite viscous and robust, with floral, peach, and mineral notes delivering on the bouquet's promise. A touch of heat on the finish. B+ (1183 views) | | Tasted by JOsgood on 2/17/2011: I like the nice herbal character on the nose. Unfortunately, too much heat on the finish. (1340 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 12/19/2010 & rated 90 points: Light yellow color; nice floral, peach, jasmine nose; tasty, dry, tart peach, mineral, old roses palate; medium finish 90+ pts. (1277 views) | | Tasted by JOsgood on 12/12/2010: Had after Alsace and Mosel wines. This exhibited too much heat for my taste. Tasted a bit candied on the finish. (1532 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 12/12/2010: tough to evaluate after germany and alsace (1454 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 11/27/2010: rocks (1551 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 9/15/2010: love this wine (1724 views) | | Tasted by xtrmjoe on 9/15/2010 & rated 89 points: My system (nose mouth finish) /+/, this wine was drinking ok, I think it will get better with time (1177 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 9/8/2010: Excellent as always (1765 views) | | Tasted by the godfather on 8/2/2010: just as good as 08 (1766 views) | | Tasted by smokeshowing on 7/19/2010 & rated 93 points: Tasted this beautiful expression of Gewürztraminer at the winery and was floored by the extraordinary aromatics of sour apple and floral notes. This is an outstanding rendition of Russian River Gewürztraminer that will pair beautifully with the usual suspects including chicken pad thai. Some suggest that this wine "needs" food to really show at its best, but I found this to be a genuine treat as a standalone. Then again, the thought of next Thanksgiving featuring this wine is making my mouth water!

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyRussian River Valley Russian River Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia |
