Leaner than before but by no means scrawny. Worked well with grilled chicken. (2887 views) | | Tasted by Captain Haddock on 8/16/2008 & rated 89 points: This has continued to improve in bottle, and is now lighter on its feet with a more Rhone-like personality. Excellent. (3223 views) | | Tasted by Captain Haddock on 10/11/2007 & rated 88 points: As fresh and long as ever despite a couple of years of bottle age. Tastes more expensive than it is. I agree with the taster who recommends chilling well which keeps the wine together. (3346 views) | | Tasted by bubbachumps on 5/5/2007 & rated 89 points: I too detected a strong herbal nose that was hard to tag with a specific adjective, but I liked this funkiness. In the mouth citrus, grapefruit and the wonderful viognier texture that always brings me back to this varietal. Nice acidity. The wine did get a little flabby as it got closer to room temp (I recommend serving this nicely chilled), but overall great qpr. (3492 views) | | Tasted by AlpharettaWine on 1/29/2007 & rated 89 points: Very nice and crisp; great acidity and nose (3794 views) | | Tasted by Bin242 on 5/20/2006 & rated 88 points: Very interesting musky and herbal nose somewhat dominating the citrus fruit. Soft and medium bodied with peach and tropical fruits on the palate. Finishes with cleansing acidity and a moderate finish. The nose makes this wine distinctive. (2760 views) | | Tasted by gdbarton1@gmail.com on 4/11/2006 & rated 89 points: Very light pale, watery, lemon citrus, acidic honey nose medium bodied, layered rich honey with acid Vey nice (2377 views) | | Tasted by gout on 4/9/2006 & rated 92 points: A lovely aromatic nose , full flavoured wine with plenty of fruit & superb balance despite it being 14.5 % alocohol. (2524 views) | | Tasted by MJHDC on 2/18/2006 & rated 88 points: Fresh and crisp, with enough body to hold up to some highly seasoned seafood dishes (curry and spiced scallops). Perhaps because of less than ideal stemware provided by the restaurant, the aromas were somewhat muted -- I got some ripe pear, but did not pick up any of the florals often associated with the Viognier. There were plenty of lemon, apricot and pear flavors, followed with the creamy acidity that made it a good match with our food. I detected no wood at all. Should be a crowd pleaser. (2553 views) | | Tasted by MeMyself&I on 2/8/2006 & rated 81 points: Needs a fruit component to add some interest. (2955 views) | | Tasted by serialmonkey on 11/23/2005 & rated 86 points: Newcastle Wine Club - October 05 (Benvenuti's Italian Restaurant, Cooks Hill): Pale to gold hues with lots of life on the nose. Pear and peach flavours dominate the palette, perhaps abit short overall. Abit of spritz on the front as well with some oak treatment showing through. Started to show better with some time in the glass. (3474 views) | | Tasted by wineismylife on 9/24/2005 & rated 87 points: WIML87,NOWA,NOWS Tasted September 24, 2005 at a retail tasting. Not sure when the bottle was opened but served in Riedel restaurant styled stems. Light yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of grapefruit, pear and some sort of odd herb I couldn’t pinpoint. Weird. Flavors of pineapple, passion fruit and lychee. The sharp acidic finish was a little off putting. OK wine but I’ll be passing. (2502 views) | | Tasted by chbeaumont on 9/23/2005: Floral; soft, full, flabby, hot. Not my thing. 12 (1494 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/28/2005 & rated 88 points: Lime nose; solid, green fruit and spice palate; medium finish (63% Viognier, 37% Marsanne) (907 views) |

One of the most significant wineries in McLaren Vale founded in 1912. The winemaking processes of the past have been maintained, capturing the unique small-batch character of the wines and the true flavour of the McLaren Vale region. All grapes, red and white, are basket-pressed. The reds are still traditionally fermented with the grape skins (caps) submerged in open wax-lined concrete fermenters utilising the age-old technique of foot-treading.
Winemaking duties are carried out by fourth-generation Chester d’Arenberg Osborn. In June 2004 Chester’s father, d’Arry was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his contributions to the wine industry and to the McLaren Vale region. After more than 65 consecutive vintages d’Arry is very proud of his achievements in creating an internationally recognised wine brand commonly known as the ‘Red Stripe’ due to the distinctive diagonal red stripe that adorns the label. d’Arenberg’s art of being different extends to a range of fortified and dessert wines, which have legendary status worldwide.d'Arenberg The Hermit CrabAn incredibly fragrant nose full of sweet apricot and gingery spice. The palate is luscious and generous, but has great acid which tightens the wine, adding freshness and a clean crisp finish. Slight pithy feel which builds on the spice notes. Lovely as a fresh stand alone drink that still exhibits some mouthfeel, or equally well adapted to enjoying with a range of foods from freshly shucked oysters through to spicy Thai style dishes.White Rhone BlendA white wine containing two or more Rhône varieties, including: Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Bourboulenc.
